Ratings_icons Best Buy Computer Service Department - getting results !

Nancy G.

I brought my computer into their service department a couple of years ago to replace a USB port that went bad. The technician fried my mother board. I went to the Office of Consumer Affairs in Fairfax VA and lodged a complaint.
http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/consumer/complaints.htm
It took a few months but I was able to get a new computer of comparable value. I'd suggest you all do the same. It's a very easy process to go through. They service complaints for any type of consumer purchase made in Fairfax County only.

I purchased a TV/DVD combo 7 months ago and have never used the DVD player. Now, it is causing problems with the TV and will take over a month to fix. I am without a TV and the mgr told me I can buy another one but if my repair takes longer than the return policy, I am stuck with the new TV. Stupid! He would not make an exception to extend the return policy or issue a loaner even though others (store workers) told me he can do it.

Ratings_icons Don't buy electronics!

Margaret K.

I purchased an expensive Sony 52 inch tv at Best Buy Springfield in mid March. It did not work correctly, so they repaired it on March 24. It broke down again and they repaired it the end of May. It just broke down again. They will not give me my money back or given me an exchange. The only thing the manager will offer is to keep coming out to repair it. This is not good customer service...so I will now call Sony since it is still under the warranty from Sony. Beware of buying electronics at Best Buy...for you will be on your own.

Ratings_icons Well, It's Better Then The Local Circuit City (which isn't good)

Every time you enter this wretched hive of scum an merchandise, your are hard hit by whatever crummy music they are promoting that month which seems to be always too loud. Stay away from the home and car audio section because inevitably some idiot is always going to say to himself "hmm, how loud do these speakers get?" If you are unfortunately in the vicinity it makes for a most unpleasant experience. The staff is non pushy, however only some have any knowledge on what they are selling. If you go on a holiday you will wait in line. Return items with caution, you will wait a real long time. I think I once saw a skeleton in line still clutching a receipt in one hand and an unopened Celine Dion CD in the other hand. They usually have a good supply of merchandise on hand. My advise is to wait to you get a 10% of coupon when buying big ticket items, tax can really hit your wallet unexpectedly. The parking at this shopping complex is always a pain, especially around holidays. The holidays never fail to show your fellow human beings Thanksgiving and Yuletide spirit by watching turn into highly aggressive foul language spouting individuals who argue about whose parking space is whose. All in all ear plugs check, patience check, plenty of time to waste check, money to waste check - you are now ready to shop at this Best Buy.

Ratings_icons Mythical Land of Senselessly Long Repairs

Mick B.

Approximately one year ago I purchased a glorious machine from the computer department of the Springfield Best Buy. This laptop was state of the art sleekness. An HP dv9000, it was black in color with a 17inch screen. Being a student of graphic design, I anticipated this masterpiece of modern technology would launch me and my artistic endeavors into stratospheric heights.
For the majority of the year these dreams were realized as I practiced my craft, honing my skills. The beauty of this machine matched its performance and I was delighted with the experience. Then, due to some mishaps, and a little assist from the faulty Norton 360 Anti-virus, my beloved workstation crashed. In sudden dismay, I lamented. Then I remembered the almighty warranty! Reassured that all would be made right, I kissed my laptop and retired for the evening.
The next morning I wrestled myself from slumber's embrace and prepared my laptop (and myself) for what I figured would be a few hours of computer repair. You see, I was led to believe that my computer warranty guaranteed 'on the spot' repair when I bought it. After all, I bought full-coverage. I arrived at Best Buy, full of starry-eyed hope and great expectations. I smiled up to the counter of the computer repair department, a gleeful fool. I was unaware of my buffoonish and optimistic grin until a Geek Squad representative (the organization that handles computer repairs at Best Buy, and the true culprits of this tragic tale) greeted me with a disdainful and labor-loathing scowl.
"Yeah? was how he greeted me with all of the detached enthusiasm of a monkey attending an ass itch. It was at this precise moment that I knew that respect would not be a part of the equation.
I set forth with the business of explaining my dilemma to this hapless troglodyte. After listening half-heartedly (that, at least, according to his listless stare) to my tale of woe, he informed me that the keyboard would have to be changed. This is a process that usually takes a few minutes. Then he actually lifted his fingertips to his lips, like someone who was about to reveal a really juicy and unkeepable secret. "Since-your-machine-is-under-warranty", he blurted abruptly, "it-will-have-to-be-sent-away", then, "Three-weeks!"
His verbal machine-gunnery lasted all of two seconds, yet the words 'three weeks' hit me between the eyes with force causing me to blink rapidly with befuddlement.
My mind's eye rewound back to that fateful day approximately one year ago when I purchased my black beauty. I recalled with great acuity how that salesman snaked and weaved his words into my psyche, coercing me, twisting my will to his designs. That swindler convinced, no, compelled me to buy that full-coverage warranty! And now, these monkey bastards had me firmly by the proverbial scrotum. If I planned to make it out of this building with my sack intact I would have to shell out some money, or let these butchers of fairness send my pitiful laptop to the Mythical Land of Senselessly Long Repairs, with its long, twisting highways of conveyor belts that slowly move thousands of damaged laptops to nowhere. This was wrong, and I knew it. Worse than that, I knew that HE knew it. The gleam in his eye became a twinkle. Enraged, I felt my jaw begin to quiver as I attempted, with great effort, to internalize my wrath.
This was in December. I have since received, taken back, then received again my broken laptop. It still does not work. I am returning again today.
If you have any issues that must be handled efficiently, this Best Buy is the worst decision to make. They refuse to answer their telephones; if you happen to get someone on the phone and ask for a manager, you will be sent to another department or left on hold for upwards of twenty (20!) minutes. It would be very noble of Best Buy if they would simply place the following notice at the repair department:
WARNING!
For individuals suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease, or hypertension it is advised that you take your business to one of our worthy competitors, as attempting to get us to honor our warranties will be a high-stress situation for the consumer. Be advised that should you continue to expect us to fulfill our obligation, we will do everything in our ability to raise your blood pressure significantly. Our goal is to continue this behavior at the Springfield location until a consumer, pushed beyond human limitations, suffers an acute coronary attack. or not, because we really dont care.
That would be the honest thing to do.

Thank you.

Ratings_icons Horrible Service !!!

christopher g.

Best Buy will not answer their phone lines .. Ever !Amazing how they get away with that. Another issue is that they lie. My fiance and I bought a dryer from there in Feb. 06 that was a floor model (specifically told it was not an opened box item and was brand new ) that broke over and over again. After Whirlpool was unable to fix the problem, they revealed to me that this dryer was returned by another customer before we purchased it !!! Floor model my A#@ !! Beware !!!!

Ratings_icons FORGET THE PHONE!! NEVER AN ANSWER!!

I'm angry as ***!!
Go ahead, I dare you. Right now, pick up your phone and call the store, 703-922-4980. If you get a response, then I've been doing something wrong for 3 days.... This, in addition to the previous customer's write-up (my experience too!), is reason enough to take your business elsewhere.
They're called "GEEKs" for a reason.

Ratings_icons Customer service is not good.

Chao X. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,668

I don't like this store for the following reasons.
(1) The parking lots there are always crowed and you will always have problem to find a park space.
(2) The whole store is crowed also. It is nosiy and messy. If you have questions, you can't easily find someone to ask. Even you find someone, you might not get the answer you wants.
(3)The customer service is not friendly. I bought a camera from them and with the recommendation from them I bought an extra warranty. Later on my camera went wrong and I called the custom service, first nobody answers the phone. Then I had to go there and their attitude is really not polite.
based on the above reasons, I will not recommend you to go shop there.
