A friend recommended L'Auberge Chez Francois to me, so I made a reservation with my husband for a special evening. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we thought that the building looked a little old, and when we sat down at our table, I was cold from the drafty walls and windows. All employees were very polite and mannerly, not pompous. All of my husband's and my courses were tasty. I appreciated the wide variety of ingredients in each dish, from the appetizers all the way to the desserts. I would say that this restaurant is one of the best in the DC area for its service and food. We will be returning in the future.

Actually, the restaurant's name is L'Auberge Chez Francois. The restaurant's chefs specialize in classical French and country French cooking, and in warm weather, sitting outdoors is especially pleasant.

My parents took me to Chez Francois when I was a child, and I remember being overwhelmed by the setting and intimidated by the menu. As an adult I appreciate the nostalgia and outstanding food at Chez Francois. This is a perfect place to cozy up with a date, a bottle of wine and some solid French fare. The menu is extensive, but the food delivers and the pleasant servers are happy to help you navigate through it. Make sure to start with the bouillabaisse, it is out of this world. They do meat best, and for a main course the le chateaubriand de l'auberge is hard to beat. Dessert is easy-go with the souffle. Be sure to make your reservation well in advance .

This is a quaint French/Alsace country inn with a comfortable atmosphere and excellent fare. The prices may be high but for the occasional indulgence it is worth the visit.
