I have now had multiple bad experiences at Mr. Tire (formerly Cravens Tire and Auto). I used to just get my oil changed and tires rotated and that was fine. However, when I needed to get a new wheel bearing, they totally overcharged me. I have had this done before and it cost me $200 (granted that was a few years back). They originally charged me $380 for one wheel bearing! I then brought it to their attention that that price was ridiculous and they admitted to making a mistake on my bill. They charged me for the wrong kind of brake system (or something like that), so they overcharged by ~$50. I still ended up paying $330 for the fix, which is crazy. I'm sure they always try and 'accidently' charge people for the wrong thing but most people don't notice.
Then they wanted to charge us almost $1000 to get my husbands jeep fixed. We said no thank you and got his jeep towed to another shop and it was only $395. By the way, that shop is ABS Unlimited, I highly recommend them. They are wonderful to deal with.
The employees at Craven Tire & Auto are the nicest people I have encountered at any autobody shop. They are honest and reliable. They are more expensive than other mechanics in the area, but they do advertise in Valupak and if you use one of those coupons the price becomes much more reasonable. They were able to diagnose a problem with my car that the dealer was unable to diagnose. The problem was that I was only there to get an emissions inspection and although they knew what the problem was, the refused to tell me the exact emissions issue unless I also paid a diagnostic fee. I did not think that was equitable since they had already done the work, knew what the problem was, and I was paying for the emissions inspection even though the car was failing the inspection.
