Sweetwater Tavern

★★★★★
Owned by Great American Restaurants of Falls Church, Sweetwater Taverns may be theme-park clever, but they serve seriously good food and freshly brewed beer at a suburban pace.

When I first went to the Sweetwater Tavern several years ago, I decided that this was absolutely the best meal of my life...and I've had some great food over the years! I ordered the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad which was OUT OF THIS WORLD! I

I had the blue crab fritters and lobster bisque soup for my appetizers and baby back ribs for my entree. The food was good, not great, and the waitress seemed a little forgetful about things such as drinks and utensils. Mike's, another Great American Restaurant, is still our favorite.

One thing I absolutely love about Sweetwater is the bread and entries. The bread is perfect if are one of those people who like different types of fresh bread. The entries come in a variety of options and are able to satisfy more than just the ordinary person. Location is terrific. It is located by itself next to a grocery store and Hollywood video. The only concern is the parking, there is always a ton of people at this location so most of the time you have to park across the street in grocery parking lot and then walk over.

PROS: good bread
CONS: no private parking lot

This is a great restaurant but a little pricey. They have happy hour deals where you can get some of their wonderfull appetizers for half price as well as some beer specials. I love to go there with a couple friends and get a selection of appetizers and a beer, it makes for a nice casual meal. The beer is made on the premises and is fantastic. When I go there for dinner I get the crab cakes....they are expensive but very good. I also love the breads which are baked on site. The house salad is another fave. The only other downside is it can get ridiculously crowded.

Visiting this restaurant is a must for special occasions. Their complimentary bread is to die for! I've tried almost every item on the menu. My favorite dish is the Half-Young Chicken. Their steaks beat Outback's any day!

I highly recommend calling ahead to get wait-listed. It's easier to wait 45 minutes at home than to wait at the restaurant.

Despite the faux Western decor mimicking a frontier barroom---sort of---this restaurant serves anything but rustic, frontier foods. We love its big salads, but most people probably favor the very big entrees starring pork chops, filet…
