I took my dog to this business once without incident. For the second appointment I called to say I would be late. I was not told I should reschedule. When I arrived I was treated very discourteously by the receptionist and Mike, the owner. He said that the groomers were all cleaned up and done for the day at 10:40 am! There are other capable groomers in town that will not treat customers so shabbily.

I have been taking my Collie there for a little over a year. When we first start going to the "salon", they had a groomer that was great! We went back one day only to find that she was no longer there. From that point on, the grooming was never consistent. The last time we went my collie was "butchered". Well, I decided to give them another chance as we all have our bad days, right? When we went back, I mentioned to "Mike" the groomer and owner, what I would like to have done as the last time she was groomed it looked "different" (I was really trying to be nice). He proceeded to YELL at me (LOUDLY) that I should have "inspected" the dog before leaving. He took the leash of my dog and YANKED it HARD, thinking that he was going to take her in the back and groom her. My dog was EXTREMELY upset, scared and VERY nervous (Collies do not like any type of distress or discord). So here is my poor dog in the middle of the owner yelling at me. I took her leash and told Mike that, while he may be upset, he WILL NOT take it out on my dog. We left and will never go back.
On a side note.......we found a GREAT and GENTLE groomer and my dog looks (and feels!) more beautiful! YAY!!

I had not one, but two, terrible experiences here. I thought perhaps the first experience was just a case of miscommunication; however, the next time I was VERY clear and still had a major issue with miscommunication. I've had my dog groomed every month or two for the past three years and never experienced such a problem. The groomer working with my dog was terrible, had no idea how to groom a bichon, and then proceeded to yell and CURSE at me when I asked why I had to pay $30 more than what was quoted to me the day before. I would have paid but wanted to know why it was so much more... the groomer then proceeded to tell me not to pay and that I should never come back. She also proceeded to complain about how she had spent "all f-ing day grooming my dog and I should be happy that I was getting it for free" when I proceeded to try to pay. The staff have no idea what customer service is or how to treat their customers or pets appropriately. I was absolutely astonished at her behavior

Rusty, my Lakeland Terrier, feels like Pantops Pet Salon & Spa is his second home and he loves to go there. Mike and his crew do a fantastic job of taking care of him and keeping him clipped and clean. We have been customers of the Pet Salon for five years and I've never experienced better service, more accommodating staff or more talented "stylists" anywhere over the past 32 years that we've owned terriers. Rusty is especially "talkative" while at PPS&S and the whole crew takes this is stride! Mike, you and your staff do a great job and we all appreciate it, especially Rusty who looks forward to every visit! Keep up the good work!

My Jack Russell, Mark, absolutely loves Mike and the groomers at Pantops Pet Salon & Spa. We have been other places, and he is always reluctant to go inside, but here, he trots right on back with whomever I give his leash to, and always looks and smells terrific when I pick him up. I have found the owner and staff to be very responsive and caring. They will often take my dog at a moment's notice, and will keep him until it is convenient for me to pick him up. We have been customers for the past three years, and especially appreciate the online newsletter and email reminders when it is time for Mark's trim. I have recommended this shop to friends, and they have not been disappointed. The price, service and quality of my dog's haircut, baths and nail clippings all exceed my expectations.

Becky G. is correct. The service is poor and unpleasant. They seem unhappy with their jobs and disdainful of the pets and people that come in. I've taken my dog in a few times to get her nails trimmed. It's convenient and quick, and they don't require appointments for this. And I don't expect much, just a quick nail trim. But the last time I took my dog in, she came back bleeding, and the groomer said I need to call in advance in the future to make sure there was someone to help him. I asked if she gave him trouble and he said yes -- as if he were quite exasperated. There was blood all over her feet, and since I was looking at that he eventually mentioned that he cut too high on some of the nails but that she was wiggling around so he had no choice. He seemed overly troubled by the whole thing.

Of course he should have stopped if he was unable to do it, or he should have stopped when he realized he was hurting her by repeatedly cutting the nails too high. Nothing was even done to stop the bleeding, so I now have blood all over my car, and one nail was still (again?) bleeding several hours later. I would avoid the place. It's not that it's that bad, but there are plenty of places in Charlottesville where the workers are more professional, friendly, and helpful.

I took my Golden Retriever just to have her nails trimmed. The guy who took care of her never petted her or said anything to her, he just silently clipped her nails as she stood shaking on the counter. When I tried to calm her down and praise her for standing so well, he told me to move away. When it was all over he picked her up off the counter (again, without a word or even a pat on the head) asked for $5, and started reading his book again. I've never had a groomer be so apathetic or ignorant of positive reinforcement.

I've taken my precious yorkie babies to Pantops Pet Salon on 2 seperate occasions. The first time was to get my female yorkie a maternity cut as she was nearing delivery, while also getting my male yorkie a trim.

I told them specifically what I wanted but they did not listen. I asked that they do the maternity cut ONLY to my female. That means that they should ONLY shave her belly and between her legs. Instead they decided to also layers the rest of her hair (which they did very poorly and it still hasn't grown back..6 months later).

They did a good job on my male yorkie, but didn't layer him like i had asked. They only think I can think is that they mixed up my instructions. I asked for my male to be layered NOT my female. Mistakes happen though so I decided to give them another try.

I took my male and female back there again, but this time I brought her 2 puppies along. Again, I gave them specific instructions and was VERY adament about it. They did a TERRIBLE job on all of my fur babies!!!

They cut all of the hair off on top of my little girl's head. She had such a beatiful topknot and now it's gone! They did the same thing to her puppies too. I hate it! I also noticed LOTS of cuts on my poor fur babies. It's like these people went razor happy and started cutting them.

To make matters worse, when I picked them up I was told they were ready to go. I found that odd since their ears weren't done and their nails were never clipped. I had to tell them to taken all 4 of my furbabies back in the grooming room and fix it.

I ended up paying $150 for all of this and they did NOTHING that I asked. They don't follow directions, they are over priced, and one of my babies came home with fleas. Thanks god I saw it righta way. I was able to get rid of the fleas before my other fur babies caught them.

PROS: none
CONS: over priced, they do NOT follow directions, cut your fur babies skin
