In the 65 plus years that my parents and my family have been members of this church I cannot express the discontent of Pastor Neas.
Our father passed away this past week and neither the pastor or the associate were available to perform his service on Saturday.
Pastor Neas gave us no other recommendations for anyone else to assist in the service so our family could be togeather in his church one last time. We asked if someone else could perform the service and the attitude and the response that was given to our family as we listened to Pastor Neas state" I will not turn the church over to someone else" as we were sitting in the funeral home was so unappropriate and so heartbreaking that words cannot discribe what our family, friends and members of Centenary felt. I understand bi-laws of bringing past ministers back but not to give any other recommendations which I understand now could have been arranged so the service could have been there. Many members of Centenary were devestated that the service was not going to be at Centenary and still do not understand why Pastor Neas did not recommend a Pastor that could perform the service.
I do not think I will ever be able to return to my families church and look at the church the same after the very sad experience we encountered with Pastor Neas as this is not the church that I remember growing up in and the church that my parents loved for so long.
After my father passed away this past week we were surrounded by many family members of Centenary but never saw Pastor Neas or the associate visit the family....that will never be forgotten or be forgiven in the eyes of the God I no.
May my dad rest in peace with my mother now and may Pastor Neas know this" The church belongs to the members of the church as those members are who make up the church...not you" The service that you provide to the members should be an honor and not just a paycheck that you collect. Our family will never forgive you for the heartache that you provided but maybe God will.
