A couple of years ago, my husband and I had a beagle who had a rare infection. We were referred to Springfield Emergency Veterinary Hospital to see the internist on staff. While the facilities are state-of-the-art and some of the staff was great, we were very unimpressed with the internal medicine specialist. He behaved unprofessionally toward us, even though we had to have our dog put down. This is a good place to go if no other vet can help you-- it is a state of the art facility-- but I thought the vets we saw were a bit full of themselves and lacked compassion.
Update 6/29/06
And for the record, the vet we saw was one of the most senior vets on staff. He was the internist, not an intern. When we first got to the Springfield Emergency Veterinary Hospital we did see an intern and actually liked him better than the bigwig. It seemed to us that the vet we saw wanted to keep our dog around to study him, even though he was in a lot of pain and the care was very expensive. Again, this is a good place to go if no one else can help you... I'd probably try Southpaws Emergency Veterinary Hospital if I had another dog in trouble, though.
PROS: Cutting edge care
CONS: Unprofessional and arrogant veterinarians
