As a parent of Ryan Academy, I know that the school year of 2014-2015 is challenging but also rewarding for the students. Because of the overall lack of enrollment for many of the private schools in the Hampton Roads area. Ryan Academy is only offering grades 1 5 this school year, but the plan is to resume middle school 6 8 grades with-in the next couple of years. The current school staff and HAS are in the process of trying rebuilding the school from the bottom up. What that means is they are working on accreditation's and hopefully using educational technology such as IPads as well as the computer lab to give the students a leg up on learning.

My son has been going to Ryan Academy for the past 2 years and has grown by leaps and bounds academically and socially, the teachers are great with their students and are able to give individualized instructions to a student that may be having trouble. This is what is great in a small classroom setting.

Ryan Academy is definately a small school, but the small class sizes work in favor of the students. The material taught is on par with other private schools and the one on one time students get with their teachers is incredible. Their basketball team has been one of the best in the state over the past few years. I have been most impressed with the principal at Ryan and the time she takes to get to know each student.

PROS: Nice small classrooms!
CONS:

If you want small classrooms and individualized attention for your child's education, then this is it. Our child has florished in this environment. The students are very happy with thier teachers and atmosphere. I would recommend this school to anyone looking for a small private school. It won Best of Norfolk in 2003 and 2004. They have also recently purchased new land and will be expanding the school.
