The strength of this church is undoubtedly the Christ-centered preaching of Steve Shelby. He delivers extemperaneous, expository sermons that are thoughtful, impassioned and always convicting. Ask anyone why they attend this church and the answer is almost always the excellent preaching. But Shelby's star power alone is not able to offset what is a rather cold congregation that is probably around 1000 members. On numerous visits here over three or four months, I never had anyone introduce themselves or reach out in any way. The message here seems to be that if you aren't in a small group, you should go elsewhere. Attire is very casual and I would have to say that the music for such a large church is a weakness. Teams of musicians rotate, and you hear alot of the same songs repeatedly, sometimes singing the same praise hymns two or three times in a month. On occasion it is very good, but there is very little musical diversity and it is always presented in the same way. The entire congregation sings every song and I never saw any kind of choir or ensemble group. If you don't like acoustic hymns, you will quickly grow weary of the limited selections. But by all means do go to hear Steve Shelby preach. He is one of the best I've ever heard.

This is a great casual church in the West End. Two services, 9:00 and 10:30am suit a variety of schedules. Come as you are or dress up a bit if you choose.
Music done led by teams of musicians, rather than a choir, is great. Teaching, rather than preaching, is the norm. Strong Bibilical foundation.
Wide variety of ministries to become involved in.
Not for those seeking a small, intimate setting.
