I have been using Photoworks for years. In the "old days" it was for film and print processing, and now for my digital work. They have always been professional and extremely helpful. They have handled several photographic restorations for me to my total satisfaction. I suspect there are few places in the country who have their experience in handling valuable older images.

.

I had a family photo retouched and reproduced by them, with the keyword "darkroom" being used. It cost over $150 in the end and took more than 2 months, rather than the promised 3 weeks. When I asked if the price could be reduced a little, I was told that they were just trying to make a living, and that they had already given me "extra" quality paper worth $65. They simply scanned and printed my repros on a professional Epson inkjet. Not by any means worth the price I paid, and having nothing to do with a "darkroom".
During the time that I waited I was in contact with them three or four times asking about the delay. The salesperson told me that my order had been misplaced twice, in a rather jovial manner. The final day I got in touch with the owner who found the order and personally finished it for me. The salesperson told me when I was paying that they had had a number of important wedding jobs to do, and that was in part responsible for the delay.
In Summary: I learned a very expensive lesson. Don't feel embarrassed about asking what it is you will be getting for your money, and the technical details, in spite of the high handed-ness of who you are dealing with. I wanted to support a local business, but their service (for me) is nothing special, and too expensive. Which may be part of the appeal of some of the businesses on the same street. I love old Leesburg, but guess I can't afford to deal with this business.
