This past Saturday my husband & I visited Village Thrift. We are frequent "thrifters" and stop at all of the thrift stores on the Peninsula including DAV, Family Thrift and CHKD. While in Family Thrift we saw a friend who is also a thrifter and told us about Village Thrift so we decided to check it out.

This establishment is NOT your typical thrift store. It is clean organized and also supports a good cause. I found the racks to be full of great clothes that were all in EXCELLENT CONDITION. No stains, tears, or imperfections on 99% of their merchandise and the prices were easy on the wallet. With thrift stores around the area raising their prices lately, it was refreshing to see that Village Thrift continues to sell their items at prices you would want to see at a second hand store.

My husband likes to roam around in the housewares and books. He found some old records to add to his collection at a mere 98 cents each and 4 glass door knobs for our home.

I picked up two like new Liz Claiborne blouses and a pair of trendy Hollister jeans for my teenage daughter and my total was under 10 dollars.

Village Thrift has earned a pair of frequent customers not to mention the other thrifting friends I will be sending their way!

Walked in, saw a desk that I wanted to buy. Asked how much. Was told, "dunno, there's no price on it" by the clerk. I asked, when will you have a price? She said, "dunno". As I walked out I said, "why put something on the floor if you aren't going to sell it?" All I got was a blank stare! I get home, angry at the way I was treated and call the store. I ask for the manager. She says, "well that's just the way thrift stores operate, what do you want?" I was told that putting goods on the floor with no price tag with common practice in thrift stores. I was also told that the owner was the only one who could price things and that she was on 'an important phone call and couldn't be bothered" with a cash paying customer who wanted to make a purchase.

This is a poorly run store with smart aleck management. It won't be around for long, as it is overpriced and poorly managed. I would not recommend going to this thrift shop if you want to buy something. Seems they aren't interested in taking your money.

Lots of other thrifts nearby than to be bothered by this mismanaged mess!

Clothes connection is no longer in business. The new store is called "Village Thrift" which is partnered with the Arc of the Virginia Penninsula, benefiting children and adults with mental and developmental disabilities.

If youre looking for gently used, low-priced childrens clothing, be sure to include Clothes Connection in your shopping trip. In the front of the store, you will find large bins of toys for the kids to rummage through, plus a shelf of toys that line the entire left wall. You can also find occasional baby swings, cribs, strollers, and bouncer seats. My favorite part, however, is the table with baby bibs, hats, socks, and burp cloths for near, yard sale prices.
