I turned 50 last year and was noticing some new issues like hair loss and just not feeling as healthy. My best friend sees Dr Posner for his weight loss program and she raves about it. She told Dr Posner about my conditions and he was happy to see me the very next day. He did blood work and found a hormone imbalance causing a good part of my problems and started me on his serotonin program. Im happy to say three months later im back! I feel so much more energy ive lost 17 pounds and no more gobs of hair in the drain!! I cannot thank Dr Posner enough. He is the best.

I found Dr Posners speech on you tube about weight loss and it made sense to me so I saw him for that and wanted his opinion on my high blood pressure that was not in control and several other doctors could not find the cause. Dr Posner advised we get to the bottom of my blood pressure first and he did I no longer have side effects form the high blood pressure and I went on his serotonin weight loss plan and I got rid of 20 lbs in a matter of weeks I honestly feel better than I did before I had my 5 yr old son! I have referred several friends and they have been very happy too.

I've been seeing Dr. Posner for three years for both medical and weight loss issues (maybe more for medical reasons as I'm not consistent with weight loss efforts). He's a pleasure to work with. My health is my responsiblity, and when he prescribes a treatment or an option that would assist me with curing or dealing with a medical issue, he is careful to inform me about any possible side affects I might experience, so I can make a decision on whether I'm prepared to risk it. I ask a lot of questions and he is patient to answer them. I don't agree with others that he is free with the prescription pad. I think he simply utilizes what's available to help an individual with a medical problem. In my view, he is my consultant, and has input to the decisions I make about what I put in my body, and with assessing the risks associated with treatment.

From9/10 Thru 12/09 I had 3 major surgeries. The anatherias took their tol on my serotonin level.
After the surgeries, I only slept about 1 hour in a 24 hour period. I had lost 50 pounds because i wasn't hungry. I was having anxiety attacks.

I went to my sleep apnea doctor and he increased my prozac
( which I had been on for 8 years). .This medication was developed to be a short term medication only. I was now sleeping about 5 hours a night and the anxiety attacks stopped. I am officially a zombie.

My sister way taking care of me during this time. She was on the phone visiting with Dr Posner (they have been friends for years) and mentioned she was in Alabama taking care of me.She told him her concerns about my condition. He told her he thought he could help me.

I drove from Alabama to Virginia to see Dr Posner. I was that desperate. I wanted my life back!!!

I was very impressed with his knowledge, care, and compassion. He put me on serotabs. He suggested that I take serotabs for one week, then discontinue 1 prozac daily. Then the next week discontinue the other prozac.

I followed his instructions and am now off prozac.I feel better than I have on 30 years.. I told him he needs to move to Alabama I now have my life back. I'm happy and looking foward to a better me.

Thank you Dr Posner sooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you think Dr. Posner has always been an excellent diagnostician, very conservative with prescriptions, and clearly service oriented. I feel the reason he does not accept insurance is, so he may spend more time with his patients rather then assembly lining us through. His staff is wonderful and caring. The office is clean and efficient. I feel he successfully balances his weight loss program and medical practice. He has never made me, a medical patient, feel less important. In fact, how many practitioners do you know that will go into the office during off hours for examinations? He has made several trips for my family to the office on a Sunday afternoon/morning over the years for emergency type situations. He is very concerned for his patients and has also followed up with all of my visits/lab results/questions. I recommend him to everyone! Posner Robert B Md - Potomac Internal Medicine?

Excellent physician who takes the time to listen to you. Try finding someone who spends more than 4-5 minutes with you in an exam room anywhere else around the beltway. I have had long discussions and questions and answer periods with Dr. Posner which is an excellent indication of why his diagnosis has always been on spot. His practice also runs an effective weight loss program that I participated in several years ago. I do not feel as if that practice has taken anything away from his GP.

He has an excellent staff and the shortest waiting time I have ever seen in the business. I can loose a half day in a waiting room at my in-plan provider where after spending an hour in the waiting room you can spend another hour in one of their 8 exam rooms. OR I can call Dr. Posner and schedule an appointment for the same or next day with an average waiting room time of 10-15 minutes.

Thats the health care I prefer.

I've been using Dr. Posner for about 2 years. Recently I went in there with breathing problems and requested a medication that my former physician (now a VIP doctor) gave me. He said "no" and told me why -- it wasn't safe to take with another medication I was already taking. He did give me something else, which was effective.

Another time I went in with symptoms of a bladder infection. Home kits revealed no infection. Neither did his office tests. He didn't give me any medicine. However, I was still having symptoms and took over the counter pain medication on my own. One of his nurses did address the problem after I called a few days later to report no change and suggested I try to stop drinking carbonated beverages -- voila! Problem solved.

My boss and her husband are both in the medical field. They both have primary care doctors but don't totally trust them, so when they have matters that really concern them, they go to Dr. Posner first. All 3 of us find that compared to other doctors, our issues tend to be dealt with more accurately and more timely, the first time with Dr. Posner. I'm pretty picky about who I go to, and so far, so good.

We have been going to Dr Posner for many years.

Weight Loss program: my experience is that Dr Posner does not push his weight loss program onto his medical patients. I am 50+ lbs overweight, Dr Posner has never mentioned his weight loss program to me, we have never discussed it - his weight loss program is well advertised in his office and in the local media. He has counseled me on nutrition, for example: because of slightly high BP and a significant result on a routine lab test he talked to me about watching/decreasing my intake of fatty foods. Over the next year I lost 25lbs and my BP lowered.

Timeliness of care: before Dr Posner we would call other doctors for appointments and maybe be seen the next day, hardly ever the same day, and then be in waiting rooms for 30-45 minutes, sometimes well over an hour, just torture. For example; a few years ago I took our youngest child, a teenager, to his regular pediatrician, waited for over an hour, kid miserable in the waiting room, gave up and called Dr Posner's office, drove less than a mile there, taken to a exam room within two minutes of arriving, Dr Posner in to see us less than a minute later. Another example: Once I called Dr Posner late on a summer evening, he was jogging around Burke Lake at the time, he met me at his office 10 minutes later. With Dr Posner we always get a same day appointment and never wait more than a few minutes in the waiting room.

Duration of Exam: yes it can seem quite brief, he probably has to be concise/time efficient to make the flow of care go as promptly as it does. When I take a written list of concerns and questions (which we should do with every doctor) he does slow down and will ask at the end if there is anything else. There are no perfect doctors. If you had a bad experience find a nice way to discuss it with him or his nurse Keri - she has the experience, skill, and expertise needed to address problems and issues with poise and compassion.

Medications: yes, Dr Posner does tend to prescribe liberally, but with thought and care. The patient does have a responsibility to voice concerns. We can ask questions and discuss meds and ask about other options, and decline any meds, which I have done. It would be good if Dr Posner got more into herbs and alternate treatments, his office staff did suggest an Omega supplement to boost good cholesterol levels.

Knowledge: I am an RN so I need a doctor that knows MORE than me. With other local doctors too often the advice would be just plain stupid. Dr Posner seems to always be up on the latest research, the latest trends in high standards of care, and best of all he has never said anything to me that sounded stupid. Also, he has never advised anything stupid for any of my other family members.

Insurance: yes, I do wish he took my insurance, but it is a *great relief* to have it filed for me. The extra I may pay is well worth it. I just hope I can continue to afford it.

Referral to Specialist: I feel I have been referred appropriately and well, and at times appropriately not referred. For example: I had a problem and had been to a specialist. The medication prescribed by the specialist was not effective at all. A few weeks later during a follow-up exam for a different issue I told Dr Posner about the on-going problem, (I did not mention that I had already been to a specialist) I told Dr Posner that I thought I needed to see a specialist about this problem. He prescribed a simple medication that immediately worked very well, problem solved.

Contrary to the other reviews listed, Dr. Posner is in fact a compassionate and devoted physician for the Northern Virginia area. He has spent many years building a practice with a professional staff and hours not normally maintained by HMO doctors. Those who state that he is "quick with the prescription pad" are clearly people who choose a more holistic lifestyle. These people need to consider visiting doctors who practice holistic methods (and on that note, expect to have ginko and herbs prescribed for all ailments). Dr. Posner is straightforward and dedicated to curing the ailments that are brought into his office, which may include using prescription medication. For anyone who i looking for quality services from a doctor who is incredibly well-versed in the field of medicine, Dr. Posner is the right fit for you.

The good-You can always get an immediate appt with Dr. P. His staff is great and he does check and notice any test results sent to him. The not so good-that he is too busy now with his weight loss patients to spend much time or devote attention as he used to with his internal medicine patients. After 10 years as his patient, it is kind of scary, dismissive and disappointing to be in and out of his office in less than 3 minutes- talk fast! He is quick to refer you to someone else and does not check back to see how you are doing. I'm tempted to book a double appt just to get 6 minutes instead of 3.

After 30 + years in the service one of the really great things is seeing the same MD all of the time. He remembers his patients' names and general history. He knows what he is doing -- three years ago on a regular physical he caught Melanoma early enough that I am able to write this review. He stopped taking insurance assignments years ago which means we have to pay and get reimbursed by the insurance company. Not a problem -- they send the forms to the insurance company and we get paid.

You normally get a same day appointment with Dr. Posner or another doctor he has hired to work in the practice. Dr Posner seems well versed in medicine but very quick with the prescription pad. He is also very into the medicine he created to help with weight loss and his weight loss clinic. He also claims his medicine which is non prescription helps with many other ailments. This is what drove me away and had me follow one of the doctors he had working in his practice.
