Purchased furniture on March 26, 2010, was to be delivered half on April 17, and other part on May 14. Called Value City to confirm deliver time because no one called me. I was told the funriture was never placed on order by the sale person. Needless to say after waiting for three weeks and no furniture I was not a very happy person, to say the less. Went to the store and the store manager and his higher than you attitude really made matters worst. I was told I would have to waiting until end of May for the furniture to be delivered. I told them I wanted my money back and there was no lets see if we can do anything to keep your business, they could of care less. I don't know how a business like this is still open. I will never buy anything from this company. I can now understand why when you ask people about this company, they say stay far away.

My husband and I bought an entire apartment full of furniture for our first place together after we got married in 2004. It seems that everything we bought that was wooden -- the dining set, coffee table, end tables, dressers, and headboard/footboard -- are all good quality and have held up well. But I am thoroughly disappointed with the couch, loveseat, recliner, and mattress. The first couch and loveseat set we bought had to be replaced in the first three months. It was busting at the seams and the filling was coming out. They allowed me to exchange the set for a set of equal value after some hassle. I picked a different style entirely and this set was just as cheap and hasn't held up well. The shape of the cushions was messed up within the first few months and I have been looking at it with disgust every day for the last four years. I finally got sick enough of looking at it and am researching other furniture sellers to buy a new living room and came across Value City and had to say something. Our mattress and recliner are just as cheap. They really need to invest in some higher quality "stuffing."

My wife and purchased a couch and love seat from Value City Furniture last month (March). At our final checkout and payment for the couch and love seat, our sales rep gave us the option to pickup the couch and love seat at the store at no charge, or for about $100 we could have the couch and love seat delivered. Since my wife and I are on a tight budget we chose to call a friend with a truck and pick up the couches ourselves, and we did.

Once I got the couch and love seat into our apartment and unwrapped them, I noticed an extra plastic bag that included the legs for the couches. In addition to the legs was another bag of screws. Even though Value City made no mention that we would have to assemble the couches ourselves, I thoroughly looked for any kind of instructions or tools. When none were found, I took one of the couch legs and one of the screws back into the store and asked what I am suppose to do with these. I was told to ??just screw the legs into the bottom of the couch myself.? I assumed using a drill. Luckily, I already had a drill. But after returning home I noticed that I would need a very long ??drive bit? to screw through the legs and into the bottom of the couch. So, I went out and bought a ??drive bit? for about $6.03 thinking I would be able to screw them in myself. However, when I returned home, the screws would not penetrate through the leg and into the bottom of the couch.

Frustrated and anxious to set up my new couches, I called Value City to see if someone could come out and help us. The lady I spoke with said that no one was available until the 2nd week of April and that we should have just paid the $100 to have Value City deliver and ??set up? the couches. Growing more frustrated, I called Value City again. This time I was told that there should be ??pre-drilled? holes beneath the small blocks of wood that were attached to the bottom of the couch. I was told that if I removed those blocks of wood with a hammer, I would find the pre-drilled holes that I could screw the legs of my couch into. I removed the blocks of wood, but found no pre-drilled holes. I called Value City again, this time I was told to make pre-drilled holes of my own with a drill bit. So I went out and purchased a set of drill bits for about $17.19. I went back home and tried to make the ??pre-drilled holes? myself. I had no luck. This entire time, I??m thinking what would someone do if they did not own a drill? Would someone have to go and purchase a drill if they chose to save money by picking up the couches at the store? And again, why was I not told that I would have to assemble these couches myself?

Now my wife had become very frustrated because we were expecting guests over the weekend and our couches were a mess on our living room floor. In frustrated tears, she calls Value City and expressed her frustrations. This time, we are told that someone can come out and assist us on the 1st of April. When asked what time, they did not know and told us we would receive a phone call as to what time someone would be out.

I did receive a phone call on March 31st from Value City saying that someone would be out to my apartment between 8:30 am and 11:30 am Tuesday, April 1st. While I did appreciate this, now I would have to miss work in order to let someone in to assemble my couches.

While someone did show up, and my couches now have legs, I cannot believe the amount of frustration we had to endure. Never before have I, or my wife, had this much trouble with buying new furniture. We are very displeased with both the customer service and the lack of information we received at Value City. And while the convenience of Value City??s location is great for us; we are very tempted to take our next furniture purchase elsewhere and to tell our friends to do the same. I would say that in addition to the $1200 we spent on the couch and love seat, we spent an additional $61.72 (if you include tools purchased and time off work) that we spent on couches.

We're not very happy at all.

I have been to this store a few times. The store is in an excellent location. It is in the busiest part of Chesapeake. The store is a very good size and there is a good selection. Unfortunately, the times I went the sales person would not leave me alone. They just kept following me. I have purchased a couch and a curio cabinet from them. The couch purchase was a disaster. The first week I noticed part of the couch was coming apart. i called them and they sent someone out. Then I noticed another part coming loose. Within a year the couch had springs popping out. It was a mess. I guess I picked a bad couch. I have noticed since then that their best couches have a good warranty on them. The cheaper ones (like mine) have no warranty at all. Now I have never had any problems with the curio cabinet. It is their American Signature brand and it is absolutely beautiful. If you are going to purchase something here I would definately recommend the American Signature brand. So if you don't mind being constantly followed by some of the employees then I guess you should check Value City out to see if they have anything you like.

I have purchased many items from this store. Great selections and reasonable prices. When I purchased my living room furniture there were no problems. When I purchased my bedroom it was a big headache. At the time of purchase, we were given an appointment for delivery (about 2 weeks out). The day before the appointment they called to change the delivery 2 more weeks. Then it happened again another 2 weeks. They have been selling this particular line of furniture, while there isn't even any in the country!! They blame everything on customs. They made 2 partial deliveries. On one of the deliveries, one of my items was damaged and they broke a picture that was on my wall. (They actually tried to cover up the broken picture from me). I like the furniture, but I would have to think if it was worth the aggravation before purchasing from them again.

This store has very nice housing furniture and accessories to match. The decorative displaying are set up in such a way it makes you want to buy. The prices are great, very relaxed non-pressured atmosphere where you can browse around in peace.
