The Senior Pastor is a Jew who calls himself a Christian. He might as well be a Messianic Jew because his messages are as muddled and watered down as theirs. The music is more like muzak, the sermons are Torah/Bible stories with conflicting and irrelevant themes to Christians, the building lacks any sacredness or feeling of holiness as if Pastor Solomon determined early on that it would resemble more a modern synagogue than a church. The staff reminds me of an organization trying too hard to be inclusive while abandoning any resemblance to traditional standards. It just felt uncomfortable, superficial, and incredibly unChristian.

Yawn: the music is dull, flat, & lacks purpose. The "entertainers" as well as the audience are just going thru the motions of coming to church. I truly wonder if God is as bored. I'm not interested in being entertained by music or a pastor but rather would prefer to come worship Jesus.

I wonder if others, such as Ben, ever joined a small group or other discipleship class?
I know from my years at MBC, that my small groups experiences and the other discipleship groups of which I have been a part, have made the biggest impact in developing me as a Christian... the motto here is Connect, grow, serve, etc...
and if you're not "connecting", you can't grow... sunday mornings are great for corporate worship, but for the more intimate fellowship, as with an organization, you have to be in a small group... just like college and study groups, or volunteer organizations and teams... I pray that everyone attending here has the time and motivation to get "plugged in", and perhaps once more than an hour and fifteen minutes on sunday morning is spent trying to seek out spiritual nourishment... such fulfillment will be found
I love the indepth historical background in the sermons by Lon, even though I typically attend Frontline, in the evenings...:) blessings to you all!

I used to attend this church in the 1980s when it was a couple hundred people and Lon Solomon had an afro and mustache. I have visited a few times in recent years. It is now like going to the multiplex at the mall. If you want to sit and watch a slick service with thousands of strangers where you won't have to talk to anyone this is the place for you. If you don't like what's on the main screen, go downstairs and find grunge worship or whatever. Just like the multiplex.
The music is extremely well-done and professional in all styles. Solomon's preaching is good and I listen online frequently, however, as another reviewer pointed out, there are some issues with taking verses out of context. Preaching is directed at the clueless on the fringe and more mature Christians might find it shallow. Try to find some of his older sermons from the 80s and early 90s. Preaching quality drops off when Solomon is not there.

I know it's a big church, and with the new campus, you kind of get the feel of pulling into Tyson's corner Mall, but no where else in the area have I found such a great church. I was involved in the church for several years from 1994-2001 and it was there in the young adults ministry (Frontline) that I was able to get involved in leading a Life Development Group and it changed my life. I was able to know men on a deeper level and experience "Life" together. I could go on and on about how wonderful the church is, which it is, but I mainly wanted to focus on the relationships I made there mostly through small groups and the level of intimacy attained that I have not been able to find elsewhere in the many churches I've been to.

I visited this church with my wife and brother after just moving to the area from Nashville, TN. Coming from Nashville I was not effected by the "mega-church" that McLean Bible Church has become over the years and that is not my principle issue, though it is an issue that I have plenty of opinions on. What I seek most out of a church is the spiritual nourishment I receive there and from the sermon I sat through, I received none. I was actually astonished at how blatantly scriptures were taken out of context. Lon Solomon went as far as to say that "God holds our needs above His own" and uses Matthew 20:28 to justify this point. He also feeds off emotional appeal by relating his personally negative experiences with his earthly father with those that may share the same misfortune. His complete lack of respect for his earthly father in complaining like a child, as the head of a church, shows a lack of respect for his heavenly father in forgiving others as God has forgiven us and the obvious issue of our commandment to honor our mother and our father. He continued to have context issues in speaking about Matthew 23:9 encouraging the congregation again, to have an even greater lack of respect for your earthy father, considering this section of scripture had everything to do with ceremonial titles a.k.a. rabbi, teacher, father, and nothing to do with what you call your Dad. I pray that people look for greater nourishment than what McLean Bible offers and continue their quest for their next spiritual family as I do.

McLean Bible Church is considered a megachurch in the Northern Virginia area. To some, this may seem intimidating or overbearing but it is a place that my husband and I called home for several years before we had to move. It is a place where you can find real, relevant and biblical truth. You can find community and sense of belonging here. MBC is a place you can get plugged in to hear, know & believe the truth you are searching for.

I had heard the commercials for McLean Bible Church on the radio, and I decided to go and check it out. It was well worth the trip from Maryland to Virginia. Now, I try not to miss any Sundays. The messages are very relevant regardless of what religion you are. They are broken down into understandable pieces and I always leave feeling better than I did coming in. I would highly recommend the trip.

I've been going to MBC for a few years now, and I love to go. It is a bible based church, that delivers the word in great depth while still making it easy to understand and comprehend. The worship is amazing, and they have different services for whatever type of worship you are more interested in. I haven't gotten involved in one of their small groups yet, but I have participated in some of their other programs and seminars. I definitely recommend MBC.

We went to Mclean Bible Church for about half a year back in 2001, and I kept going to their Mothing Matters Group for another year. Their services were dynamic, great worship teams. We participated in their International ministries, attended their group activities. Strong leader, people were loving. We also attended several Sunday school classes, including one talking about finances. All of their activities were very nice. The only thing we did not feel that comfortable was that because the church was so big, we didn't have the connections from the personal level. Even within the small classes and ministries, different people came and went away, and seemed to lack of the stability. The only exception for me was their Mothering matters groups. It was very nice and organized. Giving Stay-at-home moms with preschools a chance to have a Bible study and interactions for little ones.

PROS: Dynamic, loving church
CONS: Big, lack of personal connections

I live too far away to attend this church every week, but when I have visited I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The Minister is informed and educated, yet preaches from the Bible. The music is great and anywhere you sit you can see and hear all that is going on up front because they have screens posted. It is a huge church that requires traffic guiding, yet you do not feel lost in it. I have been impressed with all they have to offer, something to meet everyone's needs. If I lived closer, I would definitely be involved.

This place is incredible. It is a strong Bible believing, evangelical, mission-minded church with something for everyone. No ministry here is substandard. Everything is done with the utmost in excellence in mind. Goal is to reach the DC are with the gospel of Jesus Christ and to change lives for Him. Music is phenomenal. Sermons are on the mark, convicting and captivating. Incredible depth of ministries offered!
