When we moved to Vienna we tried Advanced Pediatrics and loved the office and the Lady Doctor with whom we had the initial consultation/appt. However recently we had to go in for a sick appointment and my son was seen by DR. Schwartz. Please DO NOT take your child to this man. Not only did he tell me to be quiet while I was asking questions about my sons illness, he left the room and did not answer my questions or concerns. He was rude and abrasive. The nurse was able to answer my questions later. I will NEVER take my son to Dr. SCHWARTZ again. Even if it means I move my son to another peditrician.

Dr Schwartz was my pediatrician when I was young- I'm now 34.

He was HORRIBLE! I have a number of childhood scars from my unfortunate encounters with this man. He has the bedside manner of a monster.

Here's but one example- I was 13 years old, Dr Schwartz wanted me to drop my pants so he could examine my lady parts during a routine physical- by the way, he had asked my mother to leave the room for this, and he did not have a nurse or anyone else in the room with us. I was terrified and refused. He threatened "I could have a nurse come in and hold you down for this". WHAT?!

I've been a Registered Nurse for 10 years. I've worked with many doctors and seen the gamut. Dr Schwartz is the absolute worst. Please do not subject your children to this man.

Make sure DO NOT let any doctor here picked your child ear. Dr. Schwartz and Advanced Pediatrics caused my child??s right ear canal injury, bleeding. They proceed unsanitary irrigation caused her right ear canal infection. They gave improper prescription made her infection worse. We took my baby to ER and told her ear canal infection caused impetigo. Later, follow up with Dr. Schwartz, he said it's not ear canal infection, it was mid-ear infection. We concerned our baby's ear infection and checked with another pediatrician who confirmed with ER doctors.

I can understand Dr. Schwartz made mistake to broke my baby's ear skin, bleeding even the infections. But I cannot forgive him using a lie to cover his improper medical treatment and refused giving her checkup during her infection.

I have no idea where these previous reviewers are referring to - an identically named practice, perhaps? There are so many fabulous pediatricians in the area, PLEASE do not waste your time and energy going to this office! Every time I have gone there for my childrens' visits, the front desk always has some nonsense awaiting me. If it's not a 1 hour wait until I see a doctor (1 HOUR WITH TWO TODDLERS!!!), they've pulled up / are referencing the wrong child's chart, which by the way NO ONE notices until I do! I have had to check the chart to make sure it's for the right child every time I've gone there - pathetic.

The last straw was today's "appointment". I got my two toddler boys out of the house and in the office for their 11:30 visit, as was emailed to me by the Advanced Pediatrics office. When I arrived, I signed in and went straight to Stephanie Heinenberg's desk to pay any outstanding balance. She did not listen to my full sentence and condescendingly told me that I would have to wait in line. Well, there was no line in sight, and I was the only one with an uncrossed name on the sign-in sheet. She then looked at me confusedly and asked if I had an appointment. Seriously. When I told her exactly what time and date the email indicated, she informed me that I had no appointment at all, thinking I would leave. When she realized it wasn't going to work like that after I had to drag two kids to a doctor's office, she only then called the office manager, Lisa Jackson, an equally unprofessional character.

Lisa asked me to forward her the email and then apologized, also thinking I would leave quietly. Long story short, I said that I would have to be seen for the time that I was emailed, and Lisa said I would have to wait for the next slot, 1 1/2 hours away, to see a doctor. Thoroughly angered, I let her know that I would be needing my charts to find another pediatrician, to which she answered, "that would be fine, sorry 'bout that!".

My husband is a surgeon who runs his own office as the only doctor on board, and patients have shown up claiming they have appointments when they aren't scheduled. No matter whose mistake it was, his office manager has NEVER let such an embarrassing mishap such as what happened to me occur in his office. She always makes SURE that they are seen at the time that they claim to have their appointments, no matter what. My husband will skip multiple meals, not go to the bathroom for a full day, jump between rooms, whatever it takes to care for his patients. How ridiculous that this type of superior service can be provided by a lone doctor, but not by a group of 4 doctors (FOUR!!!) and 2 NP's!

Apparently, Advanced Pediatrics has enough business and they simply do not care to provide you with quality care and service. Please, please, please save your time and frustration and go elsewhere.

Advanced Pediatrics has the best nurses and doctors. They are all so child friendly and care so much for the patients and their families. I strongly recommend this office to anyone who want to go to a group of professionals who will give you all of the tools and answers to put you at ease.

I am a fourth year medical student I also spent a month of my pediatrics rotation at Advanced Pediatrics. I also am a father of a 21 month old girl with a baby boy coming in December and we go to Dr. Martin at Advanced Pediatrics. So I've had a good look at this practice from two different perspectives and that's where I take my children. Parents know that says it all.

I currently take my 3 kids to Advanced Pediatrics and highly recommend them to any family. The staff is warm and caring and the office is large, bright, and clean with sick and well-child waiting rooms. There are experienced male and female physicians who have privileges at Fairfax and Fair Oaks Hospitals. They will see new babies born at those hospitals within 24 hours of birth. Basic lab work can be done on site, so you can often get an immediate diagnosis and get started on treatment right away. They have an after-hours emergency advice line so you can talk to someone even if your child is sick in the middle of the night. You can almost always get a sick appointment on the day you call and the office also has evening and Saturday hours. You and your children will be very well cared for by Advanced Pediatrics.

I take my 4.5 and 3 year old to this office, and all of the doctors have the best bedside manner, and treat their patients with the greatest care. Dr. Richard Schwartz is fantastic with my younger children. When he walks into the room, he engages in conversation at THEIR level, not mine. He gets them chatting and laughing, making them comfortable, so that he can ask THEM (not me) questions about how they are feeling. Even when they are sick, they leave with a smile on their face.
He gives very accurate diagnoses, and offers a variety of methods to treat the physical ailments, and then lets the me figure out which would be the best course for my children. However, at times, he has offered only one solution, but I trust him considering he was voted as one of the best peditricians in Washington Parent Magazine.
I would HIGHLY recommend this office for your children. The best staff, the best doctors, the best environment, the best care!

PROS: great doctors and care, great bedside manner, wonderful front office staff
CONS: none

Advanced Pediatrics, in Vienna, Virginia, is the best pediatric practice I have encountered. The entire staff is caring and kind and ensures that all medical issues and concerns are addressed in a timely manner. They have a sick and well waiting room (separated from each other) so that if you are just there for a regular check up you and your child will not get germs from an otherwise sick patient. They have both male and female doctors there so that as your child ages, if he/she has a stated-preference the practice can accommodate them. They are reasonable priced if they accept your insurance. I highly recommend this pediatric practice.
