Rip off they over charge and find mysterious things that need to be fixed.

Looking for a honest mechanic/shop sorry keep looking, these guys are not it. They will fix what you ask them to (over-priced, but it gets done), but then give you a list of what needs to be fixed. Most of the items they recommend are not needed or can wait a good while before needing preventative maintenance. I know, I have worked on cars (not at Wiygul) and have seen their slick act personally. Fortunately I did not fall for it, but I want to warn others out there. They appear honest and caring, but they are your typical shysters.

Always something?.. I started using Wiygul because it was in my neighborhood and close to me. I have used them three times for simple things like inspections and oil changes. Every time it seemed they found something else that needed to be done ?? expensive stuff. Of course they made it sound like it needed repair right away. I would take the car to another mechanic I know (his shop is just less convenient) He said they were pretty much BS-ing me and trying to up-sell me. After three times, I feel I cannot trust them to do the work properly and give me an honest assessment of my vehicle. I will use the other mechanic, although less convenient, at least he is honest and I do not feel he is ripping me off. Just a warning for everyone ?? I would not trust them.

I've had the guys at Reston Automotive replace lights for me and they did a fine job with that, but I just called to see how much it would cost to have them put 4 new tires on my car and they said $40/tire! Who in the world would pay $160 to have tires put on a car? When I asked why it was so expensive, they said it was because they had the "latest technology"... They really are shooting themselves in the foot by charging so much and driving away customers because I also have 60K maintenance to get done and I'm taking my business elsewhere. Goodbye, Reston Automotive.

DO NOT TRUST! I went for brakes and almost rear ended someone as soon as I left. Took it back and the story kept changing as to how they 'fixed it'. Friend went for estimate and they told him $600 and he was unable to drive it at all until they fixed it. He told them he would tow it somewhere else....they backed it out of the garage and drove it to parking area. He cancelled the tow and drove it to garage close by.

I've been a regular customer for almost a decade (5 different cars) but recent services caused me a great deal of headache. They broke my sideview mirror. They crossthreaded the oilpan nut. They are not accountable. I consider them dishonest. I'll never do business with them again.

Since this shop was sold a few years ago, it has become the Jiffy Lube of Reston. They will recommend changing all the fluids and filters in your car whether needed or not. In fact, they recommended replacing the power steering fluid in my car at 27,000 miles - in a car that has electrical power steering. Flushing your wallet is the real goal of this shop. If you want to do business with them, know the manufacturer's recommended service intervals, and stick with them.

We recently took my daughters car in for service on what we thought was a computer problem since that was what the dealer told us when the same problem hapened last summer. This time we took it to Reston Automotive and after a couple of days driving it and testing it out they fixed it and we picked it up.($900.00). After driving it for a day the problem was still there althought slightly different. We took it back and Butch, Jamie, Neil, Mike and the whole team worked with us for several more days and figured out what was causing the issue and finished the work at no additional charge. They are a top rate company that cares about their customers and I will certainly be returning for service. They are not the least expensive company (about the same as the dealer and sometimes a little more) but good service is worth it.

When I told my car in for a state inspection they told me that it would cost around $2600 to get to the point where it would pass. The car wasn't worth that much so I got rid of the car and bought a used one from a close friend. When it started having trouble starting I took it in and was told that I needed to replace my alternator. I told them I was surprised because the guy who jumped my car said that the alternator was producing the right charge level. I asked for an estimate and was told $400 for the part and $200 for the labor. When I told him that the part seem high he said it was because it was a Lexus. He also said that I should replace my aftermarket battery. I told him I didn't think I needed to, he agreed, but said that if I replace both he guaranteed that it would fix my problem. I wanted the problem to go away so I agreed it both. When I picked up my car I was surprised that they managed to push up the final bill to a few dollars short of $1000. I felt that I was being ripped off and paid it figuring that I wouldn't be going back there again. The first thing that I noticed when I drove off was that my car was noisy, it wasn't when I took it in. It was strange, but I didn't see how their repair work would have created that problem. A week later I started having the same starting problem that I paid $1000 dollars to fix, so I took it back to them thinking that for all that money and the fact that they guaranteed the work I assumed that they would make sure that they really fixed the problem this time for the money already spent. No, they wanted to replace my starter this time and charge me for it. When I complained about the work that I paid for that wasn't needed they just claimed that it was needed and that the starter might be a new problem. I told them that I didn't think that they knew what they were doing and took my car away. I didn't want to pay for them to replace my entire electrical system part by part.

When I finally looked for why my car was making noise I could see damage to my exhaust system. It was clear to me that since I had not bottomed out my car in the recent past it must have happened when I had my car in for my $1000 repair job that didn't do anything to fix my problem.

Three years ago we had Reston Automotive replace the two front tires on our 2003 Jaguar. Last week, on the way to the airport, the left front tire started making strange sounds so I pulled over and found the tire had lost alot of air. I called AAA, who quickly arrived and changed the tire which by then had gone flat. After returning from our trip, we drove the car to Reston Automotive and left the deflated tire with them to fix or to replace it if it had been damaged by the driving on it while it was so underinflated. When we returned the next day Reston Automotive had fixed the tire at no charge.
They explained that when they had replaced the two front tires several years ago they had also replaced the tire valves. Some of those valves were subsequently found to have been made with a rubber that was subject to premature aging, and it was one of those valves that had failed causing the tire to go flat. I asked them to replace the valve in the other tire. They did with no hesitation and no charge.
They could have charged me for a new tire, mounting and balancing but charged me nothing.
My wife and I have been using Reston Automotive for several decades and have always found them to be reliable and honest. They are not always the least expensive, but they can be trusted to fix your car at a reasonable price. We have only the highest respect for Reston Tire and Automotive.

I took 4 tires to them to have them mounted and balanced. They quoted me $40 per tire! They said it would be cheaper if I had bought the tires from them. I walked directly next door to NTB and was $18.50 per tire. These guys are a ripoff.

A while back this repair shop dinged out a dent in my tire rim for free. That, combined with the sign in front saying they were voted #1 in Fairfax County made me think this was a stand-up place. Recently, upon receiving a quote for over $2300 to pass state safety inspection and an attempt to sell me a credit card when I said I couldn't afford it, I told them that I would probably buy a new car instead and took my car back. I later found out that a coworker had been quoted $1000 to pass the safety inspection at this location, and then told at another inspection station that all he needed was two new tires. I subsequently took my car elsewhere and was quoted $120. Needless to say I got the repairs done at that station. It turns out that some of the repairs they tried to sell me were completely bogus (or at least were not listed by the other shop - to be fair I can't be certain), and others recommended for the long-run but not needed to pass inspection. They even charged me for an oil change that they performed before contacting me to quote the repairs. One item that sticks out on the invoice was $10 labor to change the light bulb above my rear license plate. Even someone who doesn't know much about cars can spot that one! Outrageous! How can these guys still be in business?

The owner had complained in the local newspaper that the Cash for clunkers program was hurting his business, because fewer older cars would now need repairs and that he was losing business. So, I decided to give him some business and boy did I find out why these companies complain; they have gotten used to Northern Virginia's real estate boom. A feel-good company that charges outrageous prices and super inflates the need for repairs and part prices. Parts that the dealer charges $133 are billed for $300, a battery selling for $75 is billed at $150 and more. I got my car towed away from them when they got me so upset.

Brought and left my car for inspection on June 10 2009 at 7:30 AM and got it back at 5:30 PM. Long wait. Service is fine but only did 1 inspection instead of both. I had to go back for another inspection. I brought both inspection coupons. They "accused" me for NOT telling them that I need both inspections done.

I can't say enough about the folks at Reston Automotive. They are some of the friendliest, most down-to-earth, and honest folks in the neighborhood and they know cars!!! I've had several interactions with these people, from oil changes, to punctured tire patching, to replacing my tires all together, and then some. They are always quick to get things done, they are honest about what you need done, and don't try to sell you the world of services you don't need. They are reasonably priced, pleasant (unless Butch is having a bad day, then he can be somewhat gruff), and overall just excellent at customer service. I won't take my car elsewhere unless they suggest I do so....

PROS: Friendly, honest, affordable, not pushy, shuttle
CONS: none.

if you want a honest opinion on what's wrong with your vehicle, you gotta visit these guys. when it comes to price, they are not cheap and always quote the same as a dealer, but you would get a better service for the same price with the guys at this shop.

I have been taking my cars to Reston Automotive for about 10 years. They have never failed me, and have provided quality service on 4 different vehicles (Volkswagen, Pontiac, and 2 Hondas).

They offer courtesy shuttle service when cars have to be left overnight, and they always deliver completed work when they say they will.

Recently, I took my car in because it was making a lot of noise, and they told me one thing they could fix was a switch on my A/C. However, the work was expensive and they advised me that, were it their own car, they probably would not spend the money for the repair -- it was too pricey and the A/C would work fine without it. I took their advice and saved hundreds of dollars -- not something I have seen from other car mechanics.

PROS: Courtesy shuttle, quality repairs, sound advice
CONS: Very busy -- but it's because they're good

Finding a good auto shop can be extremely difficult. Many are just out to scam the public. Thats why Im so glad I came across Reston Automotive. My car started to have problems and I decided to give them a try.

Upon first arrival, I could tell they had a very strong business due to the high amount of vehicles already parked in their lot. Fortunately, I was able to find a space in the back.

Their service area is very simple in design; a few chairs, some magazines, and a coffee machine. But, of course, the dcor isnt really important. Youre there to get your car fixed.

The service is what impressed me. I was treated like a V.I.P. The staff answered all my questions in a courteous manner and even provided me with a ride home (since my vehicle needed to stay overnight).

The next day they provided me with a reasonable price for repairs, I green-lighted the work, and that afternoon my car was ready to go.

I was pleasantly surprised by this service and highly recommend you give them a try.

PROS: Great service and friendly staff
CONS: When busy, the parking is sparse
