Normally I do not write reviews online since I rarely find them helpful. However a friend recently asked me about my experience with Jungles Gym. I realized it was the absolute worst customer experience I have ever dealt with and would not want anyone else going through the same thing. I have spend the last decade in the fitness business and have never come across anything like this particular gym. I was moving from Alexandria to Springfield. I asked the manager (who I saw, spoke to and sent him new members on a regular basis) if I should keep coming to Alex until my membership was up or if I could go to the Kingstowne location. He then checked my profile and told me my membership was up and I could cancel at any time. This was good news since there was a gym right next to my new house. I filled out the required paperwork and submitted it. I then joined my new gym about a month and a half later when I got a phone call from the owner of Jungles. She stated that I was still responsible for 4 more months of dues at her gym.I explained the conversation I had with her manager (who admitted to her he had in fact told me I was out of the contract) and her response was: "Im sorry he told you that but hes wrong you owe me for 4 months." I continued to plead my case giving her the names and numbers of 6 people who I had got to join her gym.In a very condescending way she told me she would call me back after she confirmed this "so-called" referrals, as she put it.After doing so she called me again, had the audacity to thank me for the business I had given her and proceeded to tell me I owed her for 4 more months of dues. Avoid this gym at all costs. Sport and Health is 5 minutes away but worlds apart from this place. Do yourself a favor and join there.

The Good:
Never crowded
Lots of Parking

The Bad:
Machines are poorly maintained, and out of date
Weigh benches are falling apart
Not the cleanest gym I have been to
The classes suck (wife??s opinion as I would not know)
Constant turnover with the training staff
You have to pay for towels

My real reason for reviewing:
I have been a member for 4 years and dealt with the bad because they are so close to my home. Last week I went to cancel my ??month to month? membership only to find out I have to give a 60 day notice. What kind of gym makes you give a 60 day notice. Not to mention I am on a month to month membership not a 2 month to 2 month membership.

As the other review said Anastasia Kosmakos is no friend to anyone. If her family does own the place she is doing them no favors by talking to customers. She got real snotty when I questioned their 60 day policy, and she is one of the most condescending people I have had the pleasure of dealing with. Outside of the 60 day absurdity, I would give the gym a 0 star just based upon the way this woman treated me.

Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. If you are still thinking of joining, note the 2 good aspects of the gym above, and ask yourself why that is?

As stated in previous reviews be very very cautious if considering Jungles Gym. Not only will they do everything within their power to get every single cent out of you possible their customer service is absolutely none existent.

I called a week prior to their billing cycle to report my credit card as stolen and to supply them with a new one, yet they still charged my old canceled card AND sent me a bill with a late fee. They had a million excuses why they didn't run the new one and why the fee would stay.

Also membership fees are not defined by the company as a whole but by each individual gym. At the time of this writing a "one year" membership is 69.99 per month at the Alexandria branch. Head over to the Burke gym for a 49.99 one year membership. Want to use the Alexandria gym and not Burke? You can pay 10.00 a month to use ANY Jungles. Confused yet? It's cheaper to sign up for a 1 year membership WITH unlimited access to all facilities at Burke (totaling 59.99 per month) than it is to sign up in Alexandria for one year with no additional privileges (69.99 per month)

I signed up and did not pay attention to the fine print. The lie they say you can cacle with a sixty day notice but thats a bunch of crap. DON'T GET TRAPPED THEY ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY AND THEY WILL SUCK YOU DRY . CHECK THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU THEY HAVE AN UNSACTISFACTORY RATING BECAUSE OF UNRESOLVED COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THERE BUSINESS PRACTICES.

When you first walk into Jungles, you may be impressed with the amount of equipment and the size of the place. Don't be fooled because...1. Parking is a nightmare. You will usually have to park in the back, which means you'll have a workout before reaching the front desk. You might even become dizzy from how many times you have to go up and down flights and flights of stairs!2. Most staff members are disrespectful or discourteous.3. The equipment is filthy. I once left a kleenex in a treadmill cupholder. It remained there for 4 months until it almost disintegrated. The salt from sweat is visibly caked on the treadmills, etc. The cleaning person, who works a few hours in the morning, runs the vacuum. When I requested the gym be cleaned, the manager just looked at me.4. There are bugs in the showers. You won't notice them, though, because the amount of mold will sicken you and since there is no ventilation (Alexandria code?), the stench from the toilets will take your breath away!5. The music is monotonous. Only DC101 is allowed! My "favorite" experience was when, after checking in, I was yelled at by a person who was trying to get me to sign a petition for a conservative candidate. I wasn't aware that working out was so political. When I complained to the person at the desk, I was told there was nothing he could do. Then I noticed the religious literature that was displayed...I am happily at Old Town Sport and Health along with many, many of my Jungles' friends. We are all very happy that we don't belong to Jungles anymore and talk about how surprised we were that we had to give not one (the standard), but TWO months notice for cancellation. We remark about how friendly the S & H is, how clean the club is, and chuckle that it is actually cheaper!

This is a great gym! All employees are friendly and they have lots of treadmills and weights. I never have to wait for a treadmill here like I do at Gold's Gym. Definitely recommend!

What a great place! The staff is VERY friendly, and the atmosphere makes even the most out of shape member feel at home. Very family oriented.

The daycare service is awsome! $2.00 per visit, and they have a wonderful room for the kids to play.

Highly recommended!
