Save yourself money, don't EVER use CHAMPLAIN VALLEY AUTO on Pine Street. RIP-OFF artists at the finest!
Charged us over $500 to "fix problem" which they were sure it was, had car for two full days, got it home, problem not fixed.
Now they say it is something else but not willing to refund money on what they claim was original problem. Trying to sell us on MORE repairs.
Pretty expensive oil change that was! Glad we got oil changed, it was the only thing they did right!
Filing BBB claim on them. Horriblle, terrible business practices!!!!

Not even able to balance a brand new set of tires. Took it back twice still could not get it right. Don't be fooled by the $50.00 off a new set of tires with free balance and rotation!

I brought my vehicle in to have it inspected at Champlain Valley Auto Sales. Upon their inspection, I was informed I had two bad tire pressure sensors. After receiving their quote, I looked around for better pricing and brought my vehicle

I have used Champlain Valley Auto on and off for 5 yrs. I have stopped using them for anything major as they were over charging, and always coming up with issues resulting in hundreds of dollars everytime I went there. Most recently had a timing belt/water pump replaced. Ever since one of my other belts is loose and they forgot to tighten 2 bolts holding my engine in. Next I took my husbands car for tire change and they said I needed ball joints on the car before inspection. I brought his car to another garage and they inspected and said ball joints were fine. Next I was told my other car needed sway bar links and it would be 160.00 for rear ones. I called another garage and was told 89.00 for same thing. I didn't have them do the work but ever since car was looked at, I now have a noise that I didn't have before. Like they did something to worsen it? I have decided the low inspections and free advice is not worth the shady crappy work being done on my cars.

Stay away from this place and keep your 5 dollars. Went for an inspection and they failed me for a tiny crack on my tail light that is 2 cms big not even a hole, said there was antifreeze leaking yet my car isnt overheating and the coolant has been consistent, and expected me to pay 800$ to get everything fixed. You will save yourself a bunch just by going somewhere else and pay the full inspection price on the long run.

I was pleased with the service I received, I was driven to work, called with a detailed diagnosis of the clunk in my SUV and the bill ended up being lower than they quoted! They have a super friendly staff and seemed very professional, no complaints from me, I will return.

I took a chance and was really pleased. I stopped in on a friday, they were obviously busy but the girl said they could fit me right in. My oil change was only $17.99 and they even checked my engine light for FREE, I certainly have no complaints on this place.

I brought my Suburu Outback to Champlain Valley Auto last week. I figured my car was pretty standard/typical and most if not all Vermont mechanics would know how to service it. Afterall, I only needed an oil change and a tire

i heard the advertisement on the radio for the really cheap state inspections, and having never been there before was a little bit skeptical of a shop with really cheap advertised prices. i went in for my inspection appointment and found a very clean and inviting showroom with nice comfortable leather couches ( i actually fell asleep on one while waiting for my car to be fixed ) and a big screen tv. the people were very friendly and informative. my car needed tie rods, struts and a new muffler. i called three other shops and cva was $150 to $300 cheaper than the other places i called. they showed me exactly what was wrong with my car and explained why the parts needed to be changed. they repaired my car correctly and did it cheaper than anyone else. champlain valley auto is #1 in my book. i will definately go back there for any future repairs on my car.

Everyone who is complaining about being taken for parts you don't need should have asked to see the diagnosed part. every time i bring my car in they are happy to show me the problem. I feel the counter people are very personable and it is nice to go to an auto shop that employees women as their service writers. That makes me feel better as a woman, they don't look down on you or try to take you for a ride.

Don't EVER go here. This place is a joke. I just had them fix my ebrake and looked under my car a few days later and the brake cables they had just installed were hanging and touching the ground. I brought my car to a family member who has an automotive business and they said CVA had done a horrible, ridiculous job and my car really wasn't even safe to be driving like that. Apparently all the other automotive shops have all heard horrible things about this place also, I wish I had asked around before I decided to go there. They definately made money off me. DON"T GO HERE!!!!

I only wish I could rate this business with 0 stars. I took my car there for a simple break job and an estimate on the exhaust. Not only was the estimate $300 more than what I ultimately paid for the exhaust work (which came with a lifetime warranty from the shop I chose), the brakes needed to be fixed AND I found a half eaten piece of pizza under the hood when I went to put windshield washer fluid in it!

WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY
I went to champlain valley auto for a simple oil change and inspection. Knowing my Jeep Liberty would pass as I have brand new tires and a new battery and it rides like a dream. I had originally bought my 2004 Liberty in New York State and it came with factory tint on the driver and passenger windows which is legal in NY.(the tint is light enough to see through as well) Although in VT you cannot order a vehicle with tint as it is not legal. But they CAN inspect it with factory tint in the state of VT. Instead of letting me know that they did not feel comfortable passing it with the tint they went ahead and did the rest of the inspection knowing that they were just going to FAIL it. AND CHARGING ME FOR IT OF COURSE. The man was very rude to me and was talking down to me when I asked if the dealer where I got my jeep faxed over the factory sheet if that would make him feel more comfortable. But he had already failed my jeep without conversing with me about this first. The place is dirty and looks like a junkyard, the woman at the front desk was the only pleasant part of this experience. I would NOT ever go back there again. I went right over to another VT inspection station and of course as every other year I have owned this vehicle it passed inspection without question. So instead of getting a good deal on an oil change and inspection I basically ended up paying $37 for an oil change.

My Advice: DON'T BOTHER THE SO CALLED "GOOD PRICES" IS NOT WORTH THE SLEAZY HANDLING OF THIS SHOP.

We originally used the services of Champlain Valley Auto for simple repairs and unfortunately decided to have a new transmission installed by them. About 7 months later we found that they had installed it improperly. Whereas with the original installation it took them 1 day to find a new transmission, when they had to replace it on their dime (it was under warranty) it took them 2 weeks to find one. We were told that once the transmission arrived it would be a 2 day process - 7 days later we finally got our car back. Our calls were not returned with any regularity, a loaner car was not offered or available when requested, and there was no sense of any responsibility. We all make mistakes but it it's how we deal with them that counts. They haven't done well all the away around. Go someplace else.

I saw the other reviews. Maybe those with bad experiences are more motivated to write reviews. I have been a customer for several years. Overall good experiences - they have helped me out quite a few times, often at a moment's notice. I can't say that they have over-charged me --- as a repeat customer, they have given me some good deals.

Terrible service, rude receptionist, and bad business practices. Wish I had time to write more, but I figure that will explain in a quick and succinct way how awful my experience was.

I too also heard an advertisement on the radio for an inexpensive oil change and inspection. Similar to the other story here, I was told my car wouldn't pass inspection. I paid the inspection fee and immediatly drove my car 10 minutes down the road to the dealership for a second opinion. They put my car on the lift, checked it over, and alerted me to a few things that might need fixed this year, but happily passed my car, claiming everything was currently working up to the Vermont State Standards. When I showed them the receipt I had from CVA, they told me this wasn't the first time they've heard of this situation with this particular auto shop. As it turns out, what CVA claimed needed to be fixed wasn't even on the "might need to be fixed this year" list. I'm just happy I got out of CVA for only $15.00 and change!

My advice: Go somewhere else!

I trust CVA for basics only. I went there once with a check engine light, told them that my car was a special edition so the engine was a little different than just the model. They tried to splice some wires to make the wrong O2 sensor work, then told me that I needed a new computer. They did change over my tires successfully and did do my front brakes for free as a comp (which have lasted the longest I've seen on this car). They did refund the cost of the computer but not the labor or any of the work for the wrong O2 sensor. I ended up having to spend more money at Burlington Subaru who did give me the wire pieces that were essentially mangled by CVA so I could bring them back there. This was in 2008.

I also brought my car in this year for an oil change and an inspection. They wouldn't inspect it and said that I needed $500 of work to get it to pass. I brought it somewhere else and they inspected it and recommended the work be done (I didn't tell them what CVA said) along with 2 other things for a grand total of $550. hmmmmm.

Trying again today - oil change and inspection on my husbands car. We'll see how that goes.

I brought my car to Champlain Valley Automotive because I heard an ad on the radio claiming how great they were. They were supposed to replace the air conditioner compressor. The next day, my car wouldn't start, I could hear a belt squeaking that wasn't squeaking before and now not only did I STILL not have A/C, I didn't have any heat!! I called to have them fix the problems that were obviously a direct result of their "handy" work and they refuse to take responsibility!

Champlain Valley Auto installed the wrong part number part in my car. I took it back there four times and they never caught the problem. The total bill was over $500. Finally, I gave up and went to Essex Automotive. They discovered Champlain Valley Auto's mistake. When I went back to Champlain Valley Auto, they refused to accept any blame even though a gave them the part. I didn't even get an apology, much less any refund.
