Village Builders in Wolcott, VT installed the sprayed foam insulation in our farmhouse remodel in Johnson, VT. Along with the sidewalls, they sprayed insulation in our attic area. This application was sprayed directly on the ceiling sheetrock without first applying a barrier between the sheetrock paper and the foam. Due to a malfunction in their equipment, the correct chemical mixture was not met. The foam adhered to the sheetrock the product expanded and drew the sheetrock upward creating a rolling affect between ceiling joists. The expansion cracked sheetrock, broke away from the tape and created cracks along the sidewalls. Numerous phone calls and a chance meeting that owner Fred Martin finally reviewed the damage, agreed it was their error and submitted a check for $400 as compensation. $400 is little compensation for the time and inconvenience of applying a second layer of sheetrock, taping, sanding, and painting. A $6,000+ cost but a warranty apparently is not included.
