I like Red Mill's Double Bacon Cheeseburger alot. Thick crunchy bacon, salty cheesey meat patties contrasted with juicy sweet tomatoes and crunchy lettuce. Then the special Red Mill sauce hits your taste buds - it's a kind of smoky mayo.

If I want a burger and have time to drive to Red Mill, this is where I'm going. \r
\r
Onion rings were a wee overdone, but still quite flavorful and I would recommend them. The vanilla shake was perfection.\r

I am originally from eastern Washington, The only thing I miss from that side of the state is the burgers. Just because it comes on a fancy bun with unusual toppings doesn't make it a good burger. I had driven by Red Mill a few times and saw the long line leading out the door. I figured if people were willing to wait it must good. While it wasn't horrible it was not worth the wait. The worst thing about the place is the veggie burgers. My boyfriend had the worst gas ever after eating one. I say go to Dick's and save yourself the money and gas.

I saw this on the food network and knew that i had to try it. They have a nice menu, with lots of good burger choices. I got the one with roasted peppers on it, which were really very delicious. I opted not to go for the house made smokey mayonaise, which may be one of the reasons I thought it was lacking in flavor so its kind of my own fault. My boyfriend really enjoyed his bleu cheese burger. I felt that they used a high quality of food here, nice buns, fresh veggies etc. Some people complained about the parking but come on dude, its Seattle. Parking sucks everywhere. I had no problem parking anyways. I say eat here! Its tasty and cute!

I am amazed at the good reviews of this greasy spoon. The meat is low grade, cooked on a flat grill in a kitchen that looks dirty. The burger comes out so greasy it is terrible.I don't understand what anyone sees that is good in this place.I would never return again

So I got curious about all the fuss about this place and gave it a try. Burgers were okay not really great as many people seem to think. Parking lot was way too small for the size of the restaurant and the usual crowd they seem to expect. I really don't see any good reason for a restaurant to not have an adequate parking space other than trying to brag about the long lines of cars waiting to get in. I'm definitely not coming back.

I was telling a friend how awful this place was and remembered this website so here I am. I used to eat at Red Mill a lot when I first bought a car and had a small income, but now that I'm older I realize how badly we were treated at the time. There has never been a restaurant of any variety that had more contempt for its customers. - credit cards not accepted - 'no cell phones' signs - long lines, long wait - very little seating - order was constantly recorded wrong - inconsistant quality. We finally stopped going there when on one occasion they messed up our order and the burgers came out very bland and we didn't want another meal ruined, but my later experiences have taught me that I gave that place way too many chances. If I had to guess at the root of the problem I'd say it's that they don't need the business, they hire based on looks and they are constantly busy. I've grown out of making burger joints a dining destination so I can't really name alternatives. I like Coastal Kitchen's burger.

There's a reason why Red Mill is bantered about whenever folks are discussing the best burgers in Seattle. Their burgers are consistently great, and that is the reason we keep coming back.

Really, the best burgers in Seattle eaten sometimes at the dirtiest tables in Seattle. Nobody keeps an eye on cleaning where guests are eating.

I found Red Mill on the list of best family-friendly restaurants. Strange, I did not see a kid meal on the menu nor a junior type burger: plain. I spent $4.35? on a half-eaten cheeseburger for a 5 year old-not to mention a $2 soda. Don't get me wrong, I love the food, but kids don't want to wait in long lines for a table to open up and parents shouldn't have to pay so much to feed little ones. The Verde burger is delicious!

Seriously the best burger I have ever eaten and the onion rings are even better. Be careful because the staff is a bit on edge, you WILL be yelled at for being on your cell phone, and you ARE expected tp tip (well worth it), there are no substitutions and you must pay in cash. But if you can put up with all of that you are in for a real treat.

I heard about this place through some friends so I thought I'd try it out. It was about 8:00 on a Friday night and it was pretty packed. We ordered our food and had to wait about 10 minutes. Seating inside was limited, so we had to go on one of the picnic tables just outside. I got special they had: the "triple burger". I must say it was pretty awesome. I had been eating D i c k s (citysearch detected this word as "inappropriate) and Red Robin for a while and this was a good change.

The verde veggie burger is the best I have ever had. Maybe it's the sauce, maybe it's the toasted bun. I'm a vegetarian who used to frequent Red Mill with a non-vegetarian, and she always ordered the veggie burger here, claiming that it was actually better than the cow burgers. Delicious. The real milkshakes are good, too.

Unfortunately, this restaurant is cramped and it can be hard to find a seat, or even a place to stand while waiting; the line is routinely out the door; credit/debit cards are not accepted (there's an ATM, though); the hours are incompatible with late-night and Monday cravings; parking is a headache; it?s so noisy that people don?t always hear their names called when their orders are finally ready; and it gets so busy that the employees are often unable to answer to phone. I?m surprised the owners don?t extend the hours and open a drive-through, or a new location next to school (think how much money they could make off the munchies at Evergreen!). The employees seem to handle to crowds pretty well.

Pros: Amazing veggie burger

Red Mill has the best garden burgers in Seattle, hands down; I have them dozens of times and I've never been disappointed! But if you come during the lunch rush, be prepared for a long wait - sometimes the line makes it all the way out the door. The fries and pineapple milkshakes are great too!

Red Mill has excellent burgers and fries - the verde, made with roasted chiles, and the double deluxe stand out. These aren't exactly gourmet burgers - they are the ones that have that drive-in style gooey cheese and soft buns, and they are less than $8. We go there whenever we have the chance.

One complaint, but it is a big one - they close early at unpredictable times. Very unprofessional. I tried to get in tonight fifteen minutes before closing and the door was shut. It's too bad - these are great burgers and I rushed to get there in time. Hopefully they'll fix this soon.

I've been living in Seattle for a couple of years now and have been looking forward to trying Red Mill Burgers -- I've heard a lot about it. Like a previous reviewer, I use In-N-Out as the benchmark when it comes to burgers. Today I tried it and thought the overall experience was just ok. There was a bit of a wait but that was understandable based on the line. I tried the Double Deluxe Burger and enjoyed the spicy chili powder-ish kick but overall, I thought the burger was just, er, run-of-the-mill -- no pun intended. Having said that, the fries were fantastic. Overall, its worth trying if you're new to the area and maybe worth a stop if you're in the vicinity, but Red Mill Burgers is not a place I will go out of my way to return to. In my opinion, Burgermaster and Fatburger are better alternatives in Seattle.

In response to the previous reviewer's nonsensical rant about Californians, all I have to say is: DUDE! I moved here from California too and last time I checked, every citizen was free to move where they please in this country. You need to face the fact that we are absolutely and without a shadow of a doubt cooler than you. We only moved here to leech off of the lower cost of living. Once we consume your resources and turn Seattle into another LA, we'll all move back to Cali - job well done. In-N-Out is the best and that's all there is to it.

My dinner companion dared to ask the cashier/order taker at Red Mill about a charge on our receipt (the wrong burger had been rung up) and we were treated to silence and withering looks from not only the cahier, but the manager as well. Yes, it was only a 40 cent overcharge and the WRONG BURGER. I was so appalled at how they treated my friend that I approached the Manager and was told that the cashier was new and that they had been busy all day. No apology- just more withering looks for both my friend and I. Wow. So what if the gals working there are attractive- their attitude makes them ugly and the food horrible.

Yes indeed, this place has spectacular cheeseburgers. But you may well wait 40 minutes to get your order. The staff are completely brain-dead, and don't care about customers because this place has received so much press. They'll lose your order and you'll watch the "chef" play air guitar. Perhaps tourists will think that this is a cute, laid-back Northwest experience. But it's actually a poor business model. Make your cardiologist happy and skip on down the street to Carmelita for great food and staff that care.

Comparing these to an "In-n-Out" burger is as naive as it is irresponsible. If you are going to complain about a Red Mill burger, you should make sure that your next sentence isn't one that says that you prefer an In-n-Out burger. By the way, no one would mind if you packed up and took yourselves back to California and stayed there. You guys from there are the only ones who think you are cool, but you still think everyone envies you. Get over yourselves and your crappy In-n-Out burgers. I don't remember anyone saying that In-n-Out burgers are one of the top 20 in the country. So pack your bags and get the hell out of Seattle. And Santa Fe too.

Even though it was small, crowded, and not the cleanest place, it gets 5 stars for the great food and quick staff. The line was practically wrapped around the block, but the staff busts out all the food they can while still staying upbeat. Try the bleu cheese bacon burger.

These Seattle landmark restaurants that are supposed to be so awesome are so disappointing. My bar is In-n-Out Burger in California. I read an article that compared these to Red Mill. My husband and I made the journey to Phinney Ridge on a Saturday. Place was small and crowded...always a good sign. Despite the fact that the line was out the door, our order was taken within 3 minutes. Good service!

After finding a tiny, uncomfortable table we got our burgers in about 8 minutes - no complaints. However, the burgers were blase'. This Mill sauce was a little like ketchup, mayo and chili powder. Burgers were flavorless and my bun was so dry it was falling apart.

We had ordered some onion rings to try and they were ok.

We will not go back.

Really, someone tell me what all the hype is about. I am new to Seattle and brought a friend from out of town here because of the line I see outside. I have no idea why the line, in fact, after the flat and tasteless burger I wonder if the long line is done on purpose to make people wonder. Wendy's serves better burgers! Customer service is not good, worse than the burgers.

I love Red Mill Burgers and the malts! You must try the Verde burger, smothered with Anaheim peppers, jack cheese and mill sauce (their special secret sauce). The burgers are all very affordable too. Limited seating and usually long lines, but worth the wait or take the burger to go.. and sit outside or hit up Greenlake Park. They also have a great "no cell phone policy" if you are in the restaurant.

I forget the technical name for this burger but it has green chili and cheese and it is to die for. I love it. This used to be my major downfall living just right up the street. I would walk here order my burger and sit outside on at the picnic benches and read my paper. It was sheer bliss. I am not sure about the parking because I am a walker, but for how busy it is inside I am sure parking is hard. As far as affordable, yes it is quite affordable. Taste excellent, and service friendly.

Oh man! Talk about a great burger! It isnt really the burger itself that makes it so good, but rather whoever grills them knows what he/she is doing in order to get a nice flavorful and juicy patty; as well as the unique and flavorful toppings. They use only the best ingredients. I highly recommend the bacon cheeseburger, or if you like blue cheese, the blue cheese bacon cheeseburger! Both are delicious!! Their shakes are thick and yummy! Their onion rings are fresh and homemade, and the flavor is incomparable to any Ive ever tried. They are crunchy and just oh so good! The prices are extremely reasonable! There isnt a whole lot of seating area, although there is some. Best to go at off times, as lunch is very crowded! One thing, do NOT use your cell phone here. They are adamantly against cell phones inside and will tell you to turn it off or take it out! Also, they take checks and cash only. If you want the best burger, this is the place to go!

This is by far my favorite place for burgers in Seattle! Red Mill always has the juiciest burgers and the greatest burger sauce. Of course, they're a bit more expensive than McDonalds, but it is definitely worth it. If you have yet to try Red Mill, I urge you to go!!! The only downside is that since they're so delicious, there's usually a line and a wait.

I've been to Red Mill before and waited in the crappy long line. Only to not be able to sit anywhere. After grabbing a coffee next door and a beer across the street one time, I got my car towed from their lot!! I had to find someone to give me a ride to the towing place, then call my friend at the airport and tell him to wait another hour! $260 later and I'll never go back to Red Mill again! There are many other great Burger Joints in Seattle with better customer service, more seating, and more forgiving parking spaces!

BEST MILKSHAKES! Being a burgertarian, I don't know what they taste like... but I do eat the chicken burgers and the veggies and they're are all fantastic. I don't care if I have to wait a few minutes (never had to wait more than 15 min) for a good meal... that's what you get when you go somewhere popular, get over it, people! Onion rings better than the fries.... ample parking, friendly staff.

I don't care if I have to wait a few minutes (never had to wait more than 15 min) for a good meal... that's what you get when you go somewhere popular, get over it, people! Onion rings better than the fries.... ample parking, friendly staff.

.

If you like your burgers like cardboard, this place is for you. Gray meat, tasteless. I guess the sauce is what makes these burgers so popular, but I say the burger should be able to stand alone. Fries were decent.

Best burgers in Seattle. This is not a fast-food burger joint. Take-out is the best way to enjoy their food as both locations are small and seating is usually limited. Want something different? I recommend the Verde burgers with the rosted peppers as a great burger alternative. Get one of their shakes too.... The buterscotch shake is a great companion.

Pros: great menu options, REAL bugers, good ingredients

Cons: , possible wait

Red Mill has enjoyed a mysterious popularity for far too long. While they all look like a roadside diner from the distant past done over by Pottery Barn, unfortunately, people become mesmerized by the interior and forget they are eating a burger that for all the attitude and cost is the epitome of mediocrity. The key problem is the meat - it is generic, has no flavor and is perhaps only marginally better than the steam table Burger at AM/PM. Overall this is more about the appearance of good food rather than being good food.

Pros: Slick interior, No cell phones

Cons: , Not family friendly, Poor quality

True you may have to wait a bit so its good to call ahead. Skip the fries and have the onion rings, they are some of the best I've had. I tried the Verde with a garden burger and it was very tasty. Not much seating so plan to go elsewhere and have a picnic.

I have a great slogan for Red Mill Burger:
Where the burders are mediocre and the wait is at least 1/2 an hour!
I've been in this place once before a long time ago and decided to give it another chance. I called in my order and they said come by in 10 mins. I came in 10 mins. (the place was not crowded) and after 25 mins later still didn't get my order....SO I LEFT!!!
Not worth my time and money.

Cons: SLOW, SLOW service, Did I mention SLOW???, Pricey so-so burgers

.

Red Mill serves some mighty fine burgers. The home made smokey mayo sauce gives these burgers a special taste. Ok you have to wait about 10 minutes for your order. Each order is freshly made, but here's a tip. phone ahead and your order will be ready when you arrive.

Red Mill is at the oposite end of the spectrum from that other Seattle burger institution, which out of respect for Red Mill won't be mentioned here. Did I mention that Red Mill serves the best burger in Seattle?

If you don't like beef they also have chicken and vegetarian burgers, unlike that other joint.

I agree these are the best burgers with the most variety I've found in Seattle. Those that wrote reviews that say these burgers are bland have recently had their tastebuds shaved off. They're full of flavor with an assortment of great toppings. Skip the fries, as they are run-of-the-mill frozen fries you can find across the street at QFC. Call ahead, and your order will be waiting for you.

Pros: Great Burgers

The service is slow, the drinks come in only one size and they don't take plastic (but they do take checks -- what's with that?) All of this could be forgiven, except their burgers tasteless. Oh, sure, if you load it up with bacon and fire-roasted chilis and white truffle oil it starts to taste like something. But try a plain hamburger or cheeseburger and you'll realize that their meat is no better than McDonalds, at three times the cost. The best burger joint in town -- if you don't know what a burger should taste like.

Why all the hype is about this completely average burger joint? The buns are good, and the bacon is crispy, but the burger patties are micro-thin and mine was undercooked. Add to this a semi-snotty staff (who called the wrong name for my order for a good 10 minutes), looooooong wait (at least 30 minutes at dinnertime), and crush of patrons sporting Seattle-superior attitudes (you'll NEVER hear anybody utter "please", "thank you" or "excuse me"), and Red Mill gets a "thumbs down" in my book.

WOW! For someone who doesn't care for burgers, I LOVED the BBQ burger, and the onion rings are to die for. The kaiser bun and the sauce is perfect. It isn't the kind of burger that is all crispy and burnt on the outside.

Who on earth nominated Red Mill for best fries ? You must be kidding me. Granted Red Mill has the best burger in town but the fries taste like deep fried cotton balls, no tase at all. Eat The Burger !! Skip the fries. the burger will fill you up anyway

This place is not the end all, be all of burger joints. I like the food, but I don't have 30 and hour to get an over priced hamburger and fries. The wait is long, the place is small and crowded, you are lucky to get a place to sit before your food get cold. What's the point? Go to Scotter's in Ballard. It's better.

red mill is addicting... try it yourself and you will see...
i suggest the chili verde chicken burger, or the bleu cheese and bacon.
yum!
any of their burgers can be made "veggie" -- which is always an added plus... and the atmosphere is absolutely endearing.

This is the absolute best burger joint in Seattle. It's crowded so be prepared to wait. But if an excellent burger is what you crave, it's worth the wait.

Great burgers, if you have the patience of Job. The Interbay location is faster than the Phinney Ridge store, but fast is a relative term. An order of burger, fries and shake took almost an hour on an average summer Friday evening! I would say the wait was worth it, but it wasn't, given that the place was not that crowded, the store was not understaffed, and they didn't seem to have run out of any ingredients . . . except maybe customer service. Repeated and polite inquiries as to the status of our order were met with deaf ears and unhelpful suggestions to keep waiting.

One of the most popular burger places in Seattle is plagued with long lines, slow cooks, and a bad attitude towards technology.

While the burgers are usually above average, the onion rings are the best thing about this place. Stay away from the below-par french fries. You can get these freeze dried potatoes at any other place.

Even though it may seem like a fast-food burger place, it takes longer to receive a regular cheeseburger than going to a sit-down restaurant.

Telling customers not to use their cell phones in the restaurant is a perfectly fine rule. However, Red Mill throws it in the customer's face in a rude fashion. Rude anti-cell phone signs are in every corner of the building. A simple 'please no cell phones' sign is all that is required.

Also, what kind of restaurant does not take VISA these days?

Went there for the first time recently and had one of the best burgers ever! My wife and kid both enjoyed their eats as well (burger and and a grilled cheese sandwich). Definitely the best burger joint in the Seattle area.

Red Mill's juicy burgers made from quality meat and served on a sesame seed bun are topped with their "secret sauce," a distinctive smoky mayo. A Double Bacon Deluxe is available, but for a spicier bite, consider the Verde…
