Cool Independent Bookstore

by Diane D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,268

Bailey-Coy Books is such a great bookstore! This is a great place to go for book readings, and signings by famous authors. They have a diverse selection, and you can also get a frequent buyer's card.

Amazing collection of books

by Hemlata P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,572

Bailey-Coy Books is the perfect independent bookstore for Capital Hill. They have a ton of classic and new fiction, non-fiction, and an extensive gay and lesbian section. Their fiction includes many more obscure titles and most of the works of younger contemporary authors such as Dave Eggers, Michael Chabon, Zadie Smith, etc. Each shelf has employee's picks which are helpful in finding something new, and the taste's of the employee's seems to be dead on as far as my tastes go. They have a lot of new fiction cheap, and also have hard to find collections such as McSweeney's Quarterly. Any hipster would be perfectly at home in Bailey-Coy.

Best bookstore on Capitol Hill

by Sandra S. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,374

Start a book card and watch it fill up for a free read. After purchasing 11 books, your card is tallied and the average goes toward your next book. There's usually a bargain not to be passed up at the remainder table. Staff is always knowledgeable and helpful. Gift wrap available.

PROS: open late, great staff
CONS: limited selection

Excellent

by Tony D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,450

I confess that I don't know what makes a good bookstore. Some stores make me want to browse and buy, others just turn me off. This book store is full of the joy of books. Every time I come here I find another gem. The staff is friendly, and there are many coffee shops nearby to study your most recent acquisition. The selection of art books is particularly good.

PROS: good selection
CONS: smaller than barnes and noble, if that's a problem to you

I love this bookstore!

by Eric R. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,444

Bailey Coy has a great selection of fiction and nonfiction titles, especially those that aren't necessarily aimed at the masses. With so few bookstores surviving these days, it's great to see a high quality independent bookstore sticking around. You might not get the same discounts that large booksellers can offer, but you will get knowledgeable staff, a top notch selection of quality books, and the satisfaction of knowing that you're supporting a locally owning independent bookstore.

Keepin it real

by Rachael B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,465

Bailey Coy is a great neighborhood indie bookstore. They always have a great selection and some great bargain tables. They LGBT section is always full of new offerings and the atmosphere is relaxing. Skip the big box bookstore and opt for a local favorite!

I love this little store!

by Shannon P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,454

Because I tend to get overwhelmed by huge book stores, I get new books almost exclusively at Bailey Coy Books. A lot of the books have been read and reviewed by the staff and they have an area where customers can post their reviews as well---something that I depend on.

A great independent bookstore located in Capitol Hill. They have a super selection of books, pared down because the store is smaller than most. That just means they have discriminating taste and only have the best books, so you don't have to waste time with the lame ones. They are gay-friendly, and also have excellent author readings.
