I shop alot, and i know when staff is paid to be kind and when they are the real deal. While shopping not only were these guys freindly but they know there stuff. I was shocked on my first visit, i thought this is stuff my grand dad would love, i can't leave without buying something for me each time.

I love this frickin place!!!! Not at all what I expected. I had heard about Federal Army for years, but had never taken the time to go in, that was a mistake. I was almost overwhelmed by the amount of gear they carry. I mistakenly thought that all they carried was "surplus" government goods, clearly I was wrong. They are like the Bell Town REI, except that they are half the price. I was like a kid in a candy store, suddenly needing everything I saw, still trying to convince my wife I NEED the world war II Soviet pilot goggles....... Seriously, check it out, it is worth the time.

I could not believe the store when I walked in. They have a ton of various military goods as well as top brand camping gear. My purpose for shopping was to replace my fathers insignia and I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE STOCK THEY HAD. It was great to find a place where I could purchase the insignia I needed immediately instead of waiting months and months from a base. I found out that they will also special order an item for me if they do not carry it, as long as they can get it. Everyone is very helpful and friendly and parking is GREAT as well because they will validate your parking with a $10 purchase, or more, for a 1/2 hour. AND, I can also do my shopping online via their website www.gr8gear.com - even better, I don't have to worry about going downtown. FYI, they also buy gear. Oh..and one more thing - their display windows ROCK!

PROS: free parking, friendly service, a ton of stock
CONS:

What a fun little store in the heart of downtown Seattle. This is a great place to find inexpensive supplies for camping, hiking, fishing or paintballing. They also carry inexpensive clothing: gloves, coats, shirts, hats, etc. The store is small, but they stuff a lot into that little space. Parking is a problem, but there are several meters and pay lots in the area.

PROS: Great supplies - Friendly staff
CONS: Small store - Not a lot of parking

There are larger army and navy supply stores around.
This is not one of them. But the location is good
and they do cram pack the store with goods. I bought
a tent there and its held up over the years.

The store is worth a browse. The decor is interesting and unique and plenty to captivate the eye.
I went in buying boots and the salesman was super friendly and knowledgeabl. Very helpful making sure I had a good fit and exactly what I wanted. I got a super good deal beacue the boots had a little scuff. If you don't mind it, ask for "factory seconds" when you buy boots.
They had many interesting and useful things, and looking around was an education in and of itself.
