I went to the White Box Pies Bakery in Spokane WA. I am a celiac and asked several questions about their gluten-free baked goods. First, they do not bake their gluten-free pastries in a dedicated kitchen. They also display their gluten-free goods together with regular baked goods in the display case, so there is cross contamination going on all the time. I did try their cream puffs - which were amazing - however, I did have a reaction to them and was in quite a bit of pain for the rest of the day. I also tried the custard pie and I did better with that (probably because it was fresh baked and hadn't been with any other items before I got there to pick it up).
All in all, very good baked goods, however, if you are a CELIAC, you should not eat there. It is not a dedicated bakery and cross contamination with gluten is going to occur.

Gluten Free Products replied on 10/07/09 We appreciate all comments regarding our gluten free foods, as it always helps us to improve our business. Yes, we are not a dedicated bakery for only gluten free products. Our kitchen/baking area is cleaned in between baking wheat products and our gluten free products. We use all seperate baking utensils, pans, and serving dishes. Our staff is educated on cross contimination. Yes there is always potential for cross contimination because we are a bakery and lunch cafe, not solely a specialty bakery for only gluten free. We have many many people who are celiac who have all degrees of reactions, who are very pleased with our products and have had NO reactions after eating our foods that are stored in the open, in the same display case as other food products. And, return weekly for more! Our gluten free customer make up about 30% of our business. We enjoy all customers who visit and we enjoy being able to offer gluten free lunches and desserts, to those who haven't had the options available to them in the past. And for some it has been years! Thank you to our customers! Worth the Wait!!

I was searching for someone who made Huckleberry pie, as it is not very common where I live right now. Not a lot of people have ever heard of a huckleberry? I searched the Internet and White Box Pies came up in Spokane WA thru the insider pages. I have to admit White Box Pies website is easy to use and makes you drool just looking at all the desserts. I placed an order and received a quick response within 24 hrs and they were able to make arrangements to ship a Huckleberry Apple Pie to me. When I received the pie, it was in good condition and I couldn't wait to eat it later. I have to admit, looking at the other review posted for White Box Pies, does no justice to their pies. THE HUCKLEBERRY PIE WAS OUTSTANDING! I can't wait to order another pie soon! Thank you White Box Pies!!

White Box Pies are by far THE best pie you can find anywhere! They are all handmade and fresh each day. They have a wide selection of pies (fruit, cream and speciality). They often have coupons available, too! My one suggestion: Shop early! If you stop by after work to pick up a pie, your choices will be limited. These pies are so good they go fast!
