I have no Idea how to write a review, so, I don't have a lot to say about Michael's books, I only 'drop in' every so often, and my intereats are limited...usually role-playing or carpentry, but, for a book on art or history or just about anything not related to role-playing or carpentry, the staff at Michael's books has taken the time to help me, like thay have helped any other customer... From phone calls from people with questions about books, to the occasional person bringing in books to sell, or just other patrons brousing the books on the shelves, to the customer waiting at the checkout counter to buy the book the staff went and searched for and got for them as they waited...one staff member or another has taken the time to help. And isn't that exactly what we are really looking for at a bookstore, help, from the available staff, at that very moment? Sure, I have gone into Michael's Books with high hopes of finding a certain book on whatever I was interested in at the time and most times it was available. Those few times when I left empty handed was never from lack of effort on the part of the staff to help me find it. Someday when my interests change according to the winds of fate I'll drop in again. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the help over the years...

I called Michael's Books today to inquire if they purchase rare first editions and was told that indeed they do however, when I said that I have a first edition Charles Dickens I was told that it would be rare to find that and I was asked how I would know that it was real. In other words it would be unusual if someone in Bellingham actually had a first edition Charles Dickens and the woman on the phone was judging me without knowing anything about me. When I told her that I knew it was a first edition because I had a guarantee from the book store in Charing Cross Rd., London she seemed quite taken back. I will never purchase nor sell with a shop with such a small minded attitude. I could not nor would not recommend Michael's Books to anyone.

Business Response:

Owners response Part of our joy as booksellers is buying an occasional rare book from other dealers and members of the public. In this search we receive many calls each and every week. We try to respond to requests in the most helpful way possible. When a caller has a book they identify as rare it is our job to help identify it as such. Each book has factors that will determine it??s value. It is our custom to ask questions about books offered when people call to determine the edition, condition possible value and such according to professionalism and due diligence. I have had many persons bring cherished family books into my store or things they have bought for their collection. Sometimes they have a value, sometimes they don??t. It is part of my job and customer relations to treat people in a reasonable, respectful manner. I am continually surprised at the great and wonderful books that I have been able to buy over the years that I am able to offer to my valued customers all over the world. I am saddened when a customer feels that we have not given them the best of service. Michael Elmer Bookseller since 1980. Founded Michael??s Books in 1983. When I called this customer, she to find out more about her concerns she hung up on me. It made me sad. She is not happy.

Michales is a great used book store. they buy and sell great books that are way cheaper than new, but don't have the time limits that public library has on them. They will buy your old books, give you cash or credit and the ball keeps on rolling, you buy from them, they buy from you and everyone's happy. the store is greatly organized and they are very helpful
