bring the whole family!

by C M. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 371

I've eaten at Costas Opa for years and have always enjoyed the authentic Greek cuisine and lively atmosphere complete with belly dancers. The lemon rice soup and gyros are some of the best I've had.

The Real Deal

by Liz K. | insider Insider | Rank: 17,180

Wow, wow, and wow. I always love coming to this restaurant. Located in the heart of Fremont, the ambiance is great, both inside and out. And the food is spectacular. I recommend one of their sampler-type platters.

You won't be disappointed here.

You have to try this.

by Beth C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,571

The first time I went in to Costas Opa, I was not impressed. I figured out the problem when I gave them a second chance. I ordered the very authentic Greek food that I am not used to. When I ordered the second time, I asked for something that was Greek but not to authentic. The answer was the skewers on a pita with Tsatsiki sauce. I don't know if that's how you spell it, but it's cucumber sauce and it's tasty.

Great place for great greek food!!

by cmg1988

Being greek myself i rarely choose to go to greek cuisine because i can get it from my family but when me and a couple friends finally decided on costas opa it was a decision i did not regret at all! we were told to try the saganaki appetizer, a flaming cheese dish lit right at your table and it was to die for!!! and that was just the beginning, the kalamari rings, mousaka, gyros, avgo soup and especially the souvlaki!

i will definitely be back many a times!!!! LOVE IT!

Pros: saganaki, gyros meat, BREAKFAST!!

Waste of time & money

by posturrrgirl

I've lived close to the restaurant as long as I can remember and never tried it. Well, I recently dined in there for the first time with a friend and will not be back again.

We got there and the environment gets everything off to a good impression, not amazing but lots of eclectic cultural decor. We were seated and ended up sitting there for a while waiting for our server. A woman came over and asked what we wanted, I got an iced tea (which was a great floral blend, by the way, not black tea like most places), but before my friend said what she wanted the woman walked off! (And no, they weren't busy, there was 1 other table there and it was before the dinner rush.. not even close to closing or anything) So the person who ended up being our server, a different woman, came up and took our order about 5 minutes later or so.. she was pretty nice and seemed to have good menu knowledge. We got our appetizer about 10 minutes later, still no iced tea. I eventually asked our waiter for it and she said she didnt hear me order it, and I had to point out she didnt ask to take our drink order at all and it was a different woman.
My food was recommended by the server, but it was only okay.. vary bland (beef & lamb gyro). Lots of it, though. My friend's order wasn't what she asked for or what the waiter said she was going to get. She tried it, hated it, and told the only waiter we could see (our original drink taker) what the problem was. In the middle of explaining it, she turned away from her and walked away, again!! They brought it out, and again, it was the same problem. We gave up, had our food boxed.. paid and left.

Everything was overpriced, they milked as much as they could get away with for each dish in my opinion.. There were other problems but there's a character limit on this. I'd also like to mention I'm a server at a restaurant myself, not one of those snoody people with crazy requests. So was my guest. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Pros: iced tea was good, big menu, authentic to the best of my knowlege

Cons: service, price, bland food

If you're going to review something, please learn English.

by maitai29

First of all, MORROL, uneatable is not a word. Why in the world would I trust your opinion on Greek food, as if you're an expert or something, when you don't even know English? Inedible is the correct term, and that is something that Costas Opa's food is not.

I have eaten at Costas several times, and have never had a mad meal or experience. I have even been to Greece, and many of Costas' dishes are very authentic.

Yum. I know where I'm going for lunch!

Pros: yum, belly dancing, lots of seating, location

Cons: ?

Good dependable Greek food

by Marmis

I have worked in Fremont for 24 years and have eaten here at least 200 times. I've never had a bad meal. The food is consistently good and some items (all salads, moussaka, baked chicken, hummus, melitzana salata) are among the best I've had. The service is dependable but not as friendly as one might like.

EWWW!

by morrol

I really wanted to like this place. It's close to hope, Greek food is yummy, and bellydancing! Unfortunately, the food was so god-awful that I can't say anything but ewww. I ordered a gyro, figured I couldn't go wrong. The vegetable were canned and slopped over with some kind of nasty canned marinera sauce. They were uneatable. The potatoes were either bad or canned as well because they were tangy. Also uneatable. The gyro meat itself was dry, and pretty disgusting. On top of it being the single worst gyro I have ever had, it was also the single most expensive.

Long story short, I expelled it. Maybe it was the rank vegetables, but I felt so ill when I left that I had to purge it. To be fair, I didn't take any peptobismal. I probably could have avoided the regurgitation if I had taken some peptobismal.

So, this place isn't very good. Oh, and it was a Friday night, so it wasn't like it was a Wednesday afternoon and they had their "C" ranked chef.
eww. gross.

Pros: bellydancing?

Cons: uneatable food

amazing menu

by tygerli1y

I've been to Costas Opa a few times now, but my most recent visit revealed to me what a great place it is for some Greek eats! Everything on the menu sounded so good. It took forever just to narrow down what I wanted! The avgolemeno was great, and the baked feta is a must for an appetizer. Their pita bread is great too, it is flavorful and tastes freshly made. I had the happy greek combination plate, which in my opinion gave me a little of everything that I wanted. Also, you get free baklava on your birthday. Who can say no to that?

Pros: great food, many busses stop right out front

Cons: parking

The pita! The pita!

by ml_doglover

The very best pita I have EVER had. The hummus is good too, but oh man the garlic.

The lemon soup is great comfort food.

The veggies are best - uh- skipped.

p-i-t-a-p-i-t-a-p-i-t-a!!

Pros: Did I mention the pita? Hummus, soup and ample seating

Cons: limp, colorless veggies

Great appetizers!!

by wolfitdown

DP and I had the opportunity to try the greek restaurant that people had told us was one of the best. We enjoyed the calamari and had to order the flaming cheese (come on it's FLAMING CHEESE!!) We really enjoyed both the appetizers and the salad (greek of course) was fanatastic - not overly dressed with just enough feta and veggies to keep up interested. I would stick with the apps however - the entrees were underseasoned and a little boring. We both left wishing we had shared one or two more appetizers. I would defintely go back!

Pros: good appetizers, open and spacious restaurant

Cons: entrees left a little to be desired

Best Lunch Date. Period.

by sguthrie12

I have lived in the Seattle area for 5+ years and this is the best little restaurant you could hope to find on a sunny afternoon with nothing else to do. This is the place I take my family to when they're visiting. Not all of them like Greek food, but the atmosphere is adorable; and there are "american-enough" things on the menu to satisfy them.

There are live belly dancers on Friday evenings - free performance while you eat! And the food is so authentic. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. It is an absolute MUST for lunch. (Dinner is a little pricey for their offerings - although I would still go). Lunchtime is great because there are so many other things to do and look at while you're in that neighborhood. Check it out, make a day of Fremont. It is often overlooked by tourists, but a favorite forf us locals!

Pros: Great food, great location, great atmosphere.

Cons: Average service, Average prices

authentic greek fare

by sdsungoddess

This place is awesome. From the authentic decor to the traditional Greek food. Costas Opa is a great restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I have gone several times with a large group of 12-20 people and Costas always accomodates. I usually just call ahead. They have prompt service and a very affordable menu. I always order the flaming cheese appetizer, where they light cheese on fire and it crisps the outside. It is to die for!!!

Pros: authentic different menu options

Cons: parking

Weird but true

by electriceel

I've been trying for 9 months to find a great salad in this town and the other day I finally went to Costas Opa and chanced upon there awesome salad menu. The Paros Salad (I added grilled chicken) is quite possibly the best salad I have ever had. Mixed greens with sunflower seeds, dried cranberries and fresh fruit with this sweet and tangy vinagrette-like dressing. The burgers are great and inexpensive. The spanikopita is as big as your head and delicious. I have only had fantastic food here. The staff aren't overly friendly, but they get the job done. This place is great.

Pros: Fantastic Food

Cons: Parking in Fremont

Favorite Restaurant for years

by jbly

This has been our family's favorite restaurant for years. I have tried for years to find a Greek restaurant that even comes close, and none have. Their food is amazing. All the flavors blend together harmoniously! My family and I have always driven 45 minutes to get to Costas Opa and try to celebrate our birthdays, ect here. Its the ONLY restaurant that we eat at when in Seattle.
