Pros: margaritas good but watery tasting.

Cons: horrible service declining quality of food.

The wait is way too long! When you finally get a table the service is great and so is the food. If you have time to kill this is worth the wait.

I have loved this restaurant since it opened a few years ago for the great atmosphere, friendly prompt service and its unique creative dishes. This week I was very disappointed in the carnitas which are actually pulled pork in a sweet barbeque sauce. It tasted terrible on the nachos and the tacos. It should not be called carnitas. Carnitas are succulent pieces or pork fried in lard and cut into small pieces with no sweet sauce. The salsa was boring as well. The new menu is not as exciting as the previous one. I like consistency in my eating establishments. Add some specials but leave the rest alone. Also they charge for chips and salsa which I find really pretentious. Seriously.

Loved the place! Great drinks, fast service, friendly fun atmosphere. You have to pay $3.00 to park after 5 pm.

An upscale place for Mexican food. The food is the die for. The wait can be a little challenging on a Friday or Saturday night, but have a Margarita while you are waiting....

Cactus is a great place for drinks, the food is ok, better for Happy hour. A good place to take a date, please leave the kids at home. The staff is fun, it's nice to see the same people there. They don't judge you if you drink too many margaritas, either. LOL

We used to really like this place but that was few years ago. Now the food is just plain bad:-( We went there recently - rice and beans are bland. Beans seem to be out of can. Enchilada was made with deep fried tortillas - really oily! And the fish tacos were nothing special. Mexican food can be very flavorful and tasty - food here is just badly made.

This is one of my favorite places to go for dinner. It's a casual & fun atmosphere. The food is FANTASTIC... I love their Nachos, Goat Cheese Stuffed Jalapenos, and their Chimichanga. They have delicious margaritas as well...be careful how many you drink though. They don't spare any tequilla! :)

This place is pretty hip in Kirkland these days and is always crowded at happy hour, but it's always fun too. The outdoor seating isn't in the sun if that's what you're hoping for, but they have those big outdoor heaters that still make it a nice place to hang out. And the bar staff is very efficient.

I was surprised at the variety at this restaurant. I took my friend there for her birthday and had the cactus margarita and it was fabulous. I'm not usually a margarita fan but i loved his one. I also had the squash dish and it was very good! They brought out a brownie and ice cream dessert for my friend for her birthday which was nice and it also tasted very good. The atmosphere was comfortable and the service was top notch. This is an all around quality restaurant.

Great place for a romantic night out or larger groups. Fun atmosphere and reasonable pricing.

I am confused as to why people are willling to wait for a table to this restaurant. Admittedly, my sense of smell is probably more acute and efficient than most folks, but this restaurant was reeking of some type of stale urine when we visited it for lunch today. First of all, when we approached one of their workers (who was moving around their outside tables) at approximately 11:00 a.m. to ask what time this restaurant would open for lunch, he told us he wasn't sure. Okay! He obviously is clueless. We decided to wait for another half hour and lo and behold they were open! Good. So, we were excited to try this popular restaurant. As we entered the restaurant, the host was not friendly at all; he actually scowled at us as we came in. What's up with him? Then, after we were seated, we noticed the table was very sticky (in most places). Okay! So hygiene was not on the top of their list, along w/ the stale urine smell. I was very amazed that this place was considered "one of the best for Mexican food" in Kirkland. Not so in my opinion. The food was okay tasting, but not worth the uneasiness that I felt all during lunch. The smell, the unfriendly host, the cordial (but aloof) waiter, and the ill-trained bus boy were all bad advertisement for this restaurant.

I heard from a few people that Cactus is amazing but my first experience was less than stellar. First of all, I might as well have been sharing a table with the people next to me because thats how close we were sitting. Secondly the service was slightly pushy and rushed. Third I had the Sonoran Spa Chicken ( I think thats what it is called) and I liked the combination of flavors until I bit into a burnt portion of the chicken. Yuck its hard to get that taste out of your mouth. Now I hate being a "Debbie Downer" but I didn't feel that the food or service was worth what I paid.

As you will see from many of the reviews here, there real reason to go to this place is the drinks. The food is also good, though the place next door (Jalisco Mexican) actually has better food. None-the-less, the meals are clever and fun and the place has happy, fuzzy, warm vibe that has never disappointed my wife or me.

You can bring your kids here fairly easily, assuming you and they can handle the 30-45 minute wait for a table that is pretty standard for this place on weekends. Conversely, if you are a hipster looking to tear up the town, you don't need to worry that you are stumbling into the Mexican Chuckie-Cheese. The pleasant bar and the deep booths lets everyone do their thing in the same place without overly crossing paths.

Cons: There is often a long wait and it can be noisy.

The only reason Cactus doesn't get five stars from me is the noise factor. I adore the food. I think it's creative and approachable...and I'd eat it once a week - except the restaurant is so darn noisy. They even have a great kids menu, which is a bonus to find in such a wonderful restaurant. I'll keep going back, but I'll probably stick to non-rush hours.

The food here is fantastic and reasonably priced. The squash enchiladas with mole alone are worth the visit, and the $2 Navajo fry bread with honey dipping sauce is delicious. They now have a mojito menu and the prickly pear version is excellent. We always call ahead and put our names on the list - it really cuts down on the wait. As a bonus, there's free parking in the Kirkland library nearby and we've always been able to find a spot there, even Saturday nights.

We particularly love the outdoor seating in the summer, but do occasionally eat in the bar during happy hour for cheap hors doeuvres. If you get the Ten Dollar Nachos during happy hour (they're not $10 during happy hour!), try the shredded beef on them for a couple dollars extra--it's well worth it--tastes like grandmas potroast! Makes a meal out of an appetizer. We also think it's the best salsa in the northwest--I could just drink it! I love the carne asada salad and carne asada tacos, but usually ask for the meat to be cooked to medium well--the default is more like rare to medium rare.

Had lunch at the Kirkland Cactus today. The squash enchiladas were wonderful, but the fajitas were very average. The meat didn't seem to have been seasoned at all. Good chips, decent guacamole. Our service was very attentive, but overall I'd have to say that it was just an average experience, nothing special, nothing terrible. I've tried to get into the Madison Park version of this outfit and on multiple occasions the wait has just been too long.

We LOVE this Cactus! We really enjoy going with another couple and ordering 4-5 appetizers. The nachos are outstanding, the mushroom quesadillas delicious, the coconut shrimp fantastic, etc. We have walked down to the restaurant at least a dozen times in the last year and have yet to be disappointed. You can call it Mexican or Tex-Mex or whatever, it is always GOOD!! Sure it gets noisy, but that's part of the ambiance. Inside or outside, it's always a fun place.

Cactus is an overall good place. Note, it's not authentic Mexican food, nor does it try to be. It's more of a combo of Southwestern/Mexican/Latin with a twist. The food can be good to very good. Both the Chicken Fried Chicken and the Pollo Rellenos are my absolute favoriteswash it down with a Dos Equis draft. On Fri and Sat nights it can get pretty crowded so there can be a wait. They have a decent bar (Mexican beer on draft!) and they make good margaritas. It's a good spot for just drinks too. I like.

We've been to this Cactus a few times now for dinner and found the food and service to be good to very good. Recently we stopped in just for desert and drinks and while the Bananas Dulce were great as usual we were a little floored by our drinks. $7.00 for a Gran d Marnier and $9.50 (!) for a sipping rum that I can't remember the name of. The prices themseslves were not particularly shocking, but neither of the pours would have filled a shot glass. We won't do that again.

We have been to so many local Mexican restaurants around the Seattle area and have finally found a great one! The margaritas were awesome, the salsa was homemade and the rest of the food was sooo good. We waited about 25 minutes for a table, but enjoyed a beverage at the bar. When our table was ready the hostess let our bartender know that it was time to cash out...very nice. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Tried Cactus Wednesday night for dinner - there was a one hour wait. Forget it. Had lunch there the next day and still had a 15 minute wait. Wait staff is overworked. Took forever to get chips and salsa. The margarita's are pretty good - not watered down. The chimayo enchilada was just okay. Pumpkin seeds in the rice added a nice crunch. Waaay too many black beans were served alongside. This place is just okay.

I gave these guys a 2-star review back in '05. Well, I've since been several more times and am happy to say they've cleaned up their act. Their service is better, the drinks are better, and the food is great. It stil lacks the charm of the original location, but I've ordered a few drinks and cleaned my plate every time. The Chile Relleno, chicken fried chicke, and skirt steak are especially delicious. I'm leaving off a star because the black beans and rice that come with so many meals are a bland afterthought (although the pepitas in the rice are a nice touch). They should really take a cue from Ooba's; now THOSE guys know how to make some killer beans and rice. Also, bring back the original Cowgirl Brownie. What are you thinking, taking away the cinnamon ice cream!? That's the best part!!!

The environment is fun but the service is terrible and I didnt enjoy the food at all and it was way overpriced for what we got. The most terrible thing was the brownie for dessert... I dont know who would serve a rock hard innedible burnt brownie and think it was acceptable. We didnt even get a discount when we complained. Totally unacceptable in my view.

Finally a savvy place to eat on the Eastside. Excellent food and service. I have never had such delicious chicken prepared as the Chicken Fried Chicken. The Pork Adobo is also mouth watering. Be sure to order the guacamole, it's perfect with the warm tortilla chips they give you. The Eastside needs some hip ambience and the Cactus is where it's at. Dinner, drinks, apps, you name it, you won't be disappointed.

We originally went to try the cocktails after reading about the bartender in Seattle Magazine. While the cocktails were great (the bartender had the night off) we were very happily surprised at the quality of the entire experience. The atmosphere was very festive. The food was fantastic (I had the special, my husband had the snapper). The salsa was amazing. The bartender on duty poured us a sample of some tequila that was really good. That was great as we would have never ordered on our own. We live in Kirkland and have seen many places come and go. We both agree The Cactus will be here for a long time.

i found this place by accident and had one of the best meals of my life. started with a garlic shrimp dish (and drinks of course) had the 'portobello torta' for dinner. both were incredible! my partner had fajitas which were also very good. it is a fun, happening place with good service and we didn't have to spend a ton. overall, very good. we've learned on subsequent visits that parking can be a problem as well as needing to wait for a table.

We had dinner with a large group. The service was casual but prompt, but it was busy so that was OK. The Tappas were generous and well prepared. I had the Chile Rellenos and found them to be very well prepared and very fresh. Cactus is a restaurant that you can visit frequently and get a great meal with good service and not feel like you were abused on price--which was needed on the Eastside.

We were thrilled to find out Cactus opened in Kirkland. There just aren't enough good places here. We think Cactus is, most of all, a great deal. We never spend more than $40.00 for the two of us (appetizer, one drink each and entree) and always leave happy. We find the food to be every bit as good as the one in Seattle and the drinks are better. Bottom line is this is the best Mexican, by far, on the Eastside. My complaints; can get quite croweded and noisy.

Ok, so I've only been there once (Kirkland). The atmostphere was nice (decent music too) and the oaxaca was good. Oh, and our server was great. But the reason for going there is to have good food, and well, that left a lot to be desired. I plan on going back, but only for appetizers and drinks.

I went there a few months ago with my son (who's 6) and my husband. We ordered the fried green tomatoes which were really wonderful, but that was where the fun stopped. They had nothing kid friendly on the menu. Everything seemed a bit to frou-frou to me. The atmosphere was great and the wait staff friendly and informative. The food was disappointing for what we paid -- we ended up stopping at Taco Time on the way home if that tells you anything.

Pros: Great Staff, Fun Atmosphere

Cons: Overpriced, Boring tasting food, Not kid friendly

I was really hoping to have a good review to post for this new to the Eastside spot. We had dinner there recently and the service and the food were bad to mediocre. Our server got our drink orders wrong and completely forgot to take an order from one of our guests. He insulted another person when she tried to order a frozen margarita, saying that frozen margaritas were not authentically Mexican. One person in our party had to send her food back because it was cold, another said that his food was too spicy. My dinner had almost no flavor. I did think that the margaritas were well mixed. We have eaten at the Cactus in Madison Park and it was a much better experience. We commented later that we should have eaten at Jalisco's, next door, instead.
