This is, by far, the loudest museum I have been to! They had lots of hard surfaces bouncing sounds off their loud hands-on exhibits! I actually plugged my ears at one point so that I could concentrate on what i was reading. I should also mention that it wasn't noisy because there were a lot of people there, because we were one of only four families we saw in the 2 hours we were there. There is general information the begging of seattle, the fish industry and lots of more modern information on seattle icons. They had 2 large photo galleries which were impressive, but not what I expected to see at that museum. I learned some things, but the WA State History Museum in Tacoma is a MUCH better museum.

Pros: great photograph collections

Cons: very noisy

This museum left everything to be desired. It was not what I expected. It had a lot of pictures -- which should have been advertised as an art museum. Not many artifacts of the past, just black and white stills. I was completely disappointed. The best part of the whole experience was the very expensive gift shot and a puzzle. Best time to go -- when admission is free, save your money so you won't be as disappointed.

PROS: They have some good things in the gift shop.
CONS: The museum was not what I had expected, not enjoyable for my family.

I went on a night when the admission is free, first Thursday of each month (see their web site http://www.seattlehistory.org/) There wasn't a whole lot to see. There was a bunch of pictures and historic facts. There are a couple of somewhat interesting exibits, one of them is the salmon canning plant, the other one is the "old" city block as it would look last century. Other than that - almost nothing. You really have to be a city local or a huge history buff I guess...

PROS: Inexpensive or free, a couple of somewhat interesting exibits
CONS: Not much to see or do. Definitely do not bring children there.

This musuem is situated near the University of Washington campus. It has a lot of displays (not many things are interactive though) of Seattle's local history. The display and video focusing on the Great Fire are very informative. Reconstructed stores with period mechandises are a fun to browse. There are also interesting artifacts on local mountaineers.
