.

We went here on the recommendation of our hotel front desk clerk. She said we wouldn't walk away hungry. I guess in retrospect that's not much of a recommendation.

The waitress forgot to ask my wife what kind of salad dressing she wanted. Rather than come back to find out, she just doused it with a random dressing. Coincidentally it was what my wife would have asked for. I guess the waitress might be clairvoyant, but I bet she's just lucky.

When my son asked for some parmessan cheese for his spaghetti, the waitress said they were out. Keep in mind this is an Italian restaurant. No parmessan cheese. That's like McDonalds being out of Big Macs.

I ordered the broiled halibut steak. I got a deep fried fish puck. When I asked about it the waitress said, "Yeah, it's not what you ordered, but it's what we had."

My doctor says I can't have deep-fried foods, so I sent it back and asked for the spaghetti in meat sauce instead. I think what I got was Chef Boyardee from the microwave. There was no meat in the meat sauce and the spaghetti was mushy.

The waitress could have fixed a lot of these problems by just being more involved. She went back to the bar and sat on a stool most of the time. Especially tactful was her "thanks have a nice day" yelled from the back of the restaurant as we were on our way out.

This restaurant has a long, interesting history but the owner's lack of real restaurant experience (he learned to cook in the army) shows up in the poor service and below-average food. We didn't walk away hungry, but we did get a new punch-line for every time we get poor service: "It's not what you ordered, it's what we had."

PROS: No tacky Dean Martin italian background music
CONS: Lousy service, average food
