I cannot tell you how much we like this school. My older daughter is just finishing her second year there and my younger is finishing her first. The staff is incredibly flexible, friendly, and orderly. The facility is very clean and the snacks served are nutritious. I looked at several preschools before this one and found them to be unruly, unclean, loud, and not well supervised. Walking into Alpha was like a breath of fresh air - the kids were engaged, enjoying it, and really learning. And everyone was quiet and peaceful listening to soft music. My girls have blossomed there and learned a ton. We've worked through my daughter's separation anxiety and so many other issues and I just can't tell you how supported I have always felt by the staff there. You can tell how much the staff love children, and Miss Kathy's passion for the kids really shows - you definitely get the feeling that she cares as much about the kids' progress as the parents do. My daughter's kindergarten teacher was very impressed with her kindergarten interview.

Please do not listen to this previous reviewer, I think that she has some sort of private ax to grind. I know for a fact that they do not have a problem with people of other races because Miss Kathy took my younger daughter, who we just adopted from Africa, and who didn't speak a lot of English. They've had a few kids that don't speak English that well, and have kids of all different races. Their staff is also very multiracial and they engage in many multiethnic activities. They do want the kids to be ready to be in the school, however, and if your child needs a little more maturity before they are ready they will not mince words with you. Also, they do accept a small number of DSHS paid students, but at such a small school it's only a few.

I am actually very sad to be leaving Montessori in the next few years, and can't wait until my baby is old enough to go there.

Dig this school. First son attended for 3 years, and is a rock-star at elementary school...in fact, he's in 1st grade and doing 3rd grade math. Now my second is attending, and his verbal skills, motor skills, counting/recognition of #'s, and ability to work independantly are all vastly improving in a 2 month period since he started.

Yes, Kathy is firm..but she has to be to keep order and ensure all 25 kids are learning. I give her a ton of credit for keeping class so organized, calm and engaging. Tough job, for sure!

To make comments about her not being accepting of other races is crazy, and plain slanderous.

*Beware of this school! Not all Montessori school's are alike. Kathy has a Narcissistic Personality, she want's everyone to know she's in charge and like the status of running a Montessori School more than following the true meaning of what Montessori stands for. The school is dirty, the equiptment is dirty, she claims to not be able to work with disabled children. She favor's the one's that was there the longest. The school was noisy and the children was not doing anything impressive for their age. If you appear to be of another culture (non-white), she has no interest in allowing your child to join. She ask if you are on welfare and try to talk you out of letting your children join her school. If you are wanting a TRUE Montessori experience for your kids, BEWARE and look ELSEWHERE!

My daughter went to Alpha from age 2 1/2 until she was 5 years old. The school is great and the director Kathy is fabulous and so are her employees. Prices are actually one of the lowest in the city! I lookes at 15 preschools in Seattle before picking Alpha, I knew right away that my daughter would be happy here and she was. I love this school!

Alpha is the best montessori preschool in all of Seattle. My daughter learned a lot from all the teachers. The Director, Kathy is the best and has been a teacher for over 20 years. I highly recommend this school!!
