My truck began spewing transmission fluid when I backed into the space for my 5th wheeler. I called around and spoke with a few folks at the RV park my wife and I were in, Dana's was the name most mentioned, so I called and talked to Tom. His knowledge of transmissions was amazing, his bedside manor (We were a little upset by the problem), was comforting, and his shop was spotless! While we waited for the tow truck (Dana's paid for the tow also.) I called an talked to a few other shops. No one I spoke with showed the insight, concern, or knowledge Tom displayed. We are home now, without so much as a hiccup on the last leg of our trip. You folks in Everett have a great shop in Dana's!

I brought my car to the shop where the receptionist introduced me to the owner of this establishment. He seemed very friendly and outgoing, and gave me what seemed like good advice in fixing my problems. I ended up returning to this location to get some work done, but after leaving my car in their shop for several hours to fix some problems, they called me back with a list of very unusual problems that their technician was 'unable to detect' upon the first inspection. Suddenly my car repair sky-rocketed, and after paying the initial agreed upon amount, not only did they not fix the problems that I had, but I suddenly had a short list of additional problems that I didn't have before going to their shop. The receptionist was very rude to me when i refused to pay for additional work, and the customer service here was lacking in many ways. I STRONGLY suggest being VERY careful when you go here, or just don't go here at all. I have been working in the customer service business for over 10 years, and I will never return to Dana's Transmissions. BUYER BEWARE!

Was referred to Danas by my usual auto mechanic. They replaced a transmission & it is still running great.

Seemed terribly expensive when I got the quote, but after checking comparable shops, they were right in line.

Did the job fairly quickly, got my vehicle back in 3 days.

My first experience with Dana's came when I purchased a car for my wife at a local used car lot. The car needed a timing belt installed and the VW dealer suggested that we install a water pump too at the same time since they seem to go out fairly regularly. After getting a price from the VW dealer, we decided to call the car lot where we bought the car. They suggested we take it to Dana's. Since our previous mechanic had quit the business, we followed the car lots advice. Dana's fixed the problem (very inexpensively too!). The bill came to $200 less than the quote and they put in a higher grade pump than original equipment! Then my car engine went bad, I took it to the cheapest place to have them install a used engine. I got what I paid for. It is now at Dana's getting fixed. Dana's didn't rag on about the hacks that installed the engine (they refused to talk badly about another mechanic), but they hold to their estimates and do great work. They tell us what needs to be done, what should be done and give us the choice about when to do it. They even gave me pointers about some corrections that need to be done on my car when I do the brakes myself. We couldn't be happier and send everyone we know to them.

Pros: Great service, good work, great prices, honest

Cons: a little slower than I would hope

My car was taken to DT for repair once I was told how much it would cost I inform keith (the so called mrg)that I was not willing to pay so much and asked if they would install a used
transmission and that I had one in my to purchased. He told me to let him look around for one and would contact me back, later that evening he said well this is how much lower I can go on this and I told him I was again not willing to pay so much and then said his tech misunderstood what he was told and had already rebuilt the tranny and put it back in the car, and it would cost $2700 I told him I would see what I could do. About 2 weeks later he called and left me a message asking when i was going to pick up my car? I called keith back and tried to remind him of our conversation that we had about my funds and he then started screaming at me for for me not to tell him what he said and call him back when I had money and then hung up the phone. I found myself in a bind since he had my car and not wanting any further damage done to it I found the funds and paid him at which time was told my car was still not working correctly. I then took it to Sandburg Volvo immediately after leaving DT. They assessed that my transmission had not been fixed properly and sent me with detailed description of the problem that would be found in the transmission. I called DT again and told of what was found by Sandburg Volvo and gave keith the name of whom I had spoken with. I received a call back from keith who asked me to return my car to DT on 05-01-10 and after not hearing anything from them I wen t to their shop on 05-18-10 to inquire and was told that my car was yet to be fixed and he keith was having a hard time getting info from Volvo and to give him a couple more days. I then returned 05-24-10 to be told my car is till not fixed. My car has been with them twice and is still not
fixed I have asked for a refund was told he wasn't the person to make that decision I asked him who was and was told they are not here and I would not be given a refund. I asked for my
vehicle and was told I couldn't have it. Also when I first received my car all contents had been sifted through including the turnk which half of it was in my back seat. I was told the key was
lost in trunk, and the back seat was pulled out and now will not go back in place. Also my radio face was taken out of my glove boxed and didn't work had a blown fuse and my less then a yr old battery was dead and I had to replace it an my oil dip-stick that was in my trunk has been lost. I also noticed varies screws missing for my engine.

I called on a qoute for service and they gave me a great price and even said they would tow in my car at no cost to see if it needed anything else. I asked if I would have to pay the tow bill if they ended up finding something else wrong that cost more than I could afford at this time and they said they would NOT charge me for it. Well my $794 out the door estimate turned into a $1225 plus tax... So I said to hold off on the repairs and park it until I found out if I could find a way to get extra cash. They agreed and said to keep them informed. I called the next morning to let them know I wont be able to have the car fixed right now and would like my car back at home where I felt safer keeping it and would bring it there when I have the money to fix it. He agreed but said I owe $200 to cover the tow bill. I had it towed not even 10 miles and I also brought up the fact he said he wouldnt charge for towing. I called the to company he had tow it and thy said it was only $117 for the tow.... Keith, the main office guy at Dana's, repeatively called me a moron also while I talked to him. I ended up going in and paying the $117 PLUS extra taxes he added to it so i paid $132... Even though he tried charging me $200 for a $117 tow bill.... I got myself a tow dolley and towed it myself.... Im done dealing with those conartist jerks!!!!

I had my van worked on at Dana's Transmission. My wife and I were impressed with the whole company from the guys out in the shop all the way to the office. We told Tom what the van was doing & not doing.

Tom explained what he thought the problem was and the cost. We needed a part that wasn't in his bid. Tom called to let my wife and I know the cost. When we went and picked up are van. Tom had paid for the part. You don't find people like that this day and age.

My wife was so impressed with Dana's she baked around 3 dozen cookies and took them to the shop. Over the years I have work with a lot of shops, by far Dana's has been the best to work with. About a month after that are van wouldn't start. I called Tom to see if he had any ideas. He told me that it could be a ground. I was going to have the van towed to his shop when he said to let him get it towed he has a co. he uses. He called me later that day to tell me the van was ready. When I asked what was wrong he said that it was the ground. When we went to get the van Tom said no charge I told him that I wanted to pay for the tow Tom said no way. His customer service is a lot better than any shop I have had to work with in the last 20 years. If you need your car worked on call Dana's Transmission they will treat you like a friend not just a dollar. It's the only place I will ever go. Thank Dana's for a wonderful job.

Pros: Great Customer Service

Cons: Who wants a new transmission?

Thom tells me that the cost of a rebuilt transmission is $1,800 + tax. I get a call later on that the transmission was worse than thought "he might have to bypass the radiator and flush the lines". The radiator is ALREADY bypassed on my vehicle! He proceeds to tell me that he would have an estimate by the end of the day (Friday). Well, he goes home, I call the shop Saturday and Thom won't be in until noon on Monday (I tell them that I never authorize work until I get an estimate).

Tuesday comes, Thom calls me to tell me that he can't give me an estimate on the new transmission until after I authorize work on the vehicle.

At this point, I send a tow truck in to pick up the vehicle. The driveline, transmission were off the vehicle. (I never asked him to start work). After they thumb tighten everything back into place, Thom proceeds to scream at me calling me names. Stating he was going to charge me storage and labor he already performed. (remember, still no estimate). I did pay for the diagnostic and tow ($149.00). This guy is unbelievable! I do have to say that the office lady was really nice and obviously, from her body language, uncomfortable with the situation. Also the mechanic working on my vehicle was cool and took the situation as "Business as usual" for this shop. Giving me advice to keep the driveline out in order to move the vehicle around easier due to the Transmission being locked).

Turns out, there was a happy ending.....I found a used transmission with 15,000 miles on it, my brothers friend (20 year history in a transmission shop) flushed out the lines of my vehicle, put the new transmission in and I was on the road for $550.00! All on the same day that I picked up my vehicle from Thom. This is the perfect example of how to burn a bridge. Thom torched it.

On three occasions between 2005 to 2008, I took my vehicle to Dana's Transmissions for normal transmission servicing. On the last visit, they damaged the transmission and did not tell me about it until I was ready to leave, claiming the damage was there when I arrived at the shop. The problem is there was no leak prior to arriving that day, and no such notice of such damage and leak until after the service was performed. Further, they simply informed me of the leak and damage, but did not offer to give an estimate for repair. Very odd. Dana's was the only shop to touch the transmission since my last visit to them. Here is a summary of my visits with them during this period:

7/27/2006 mileage 130,004
8/15/2007 mileage 171,781
12/10/2008 mileage 211,715

For an automatic transmission, most manufacturers recommend maintaining fluid every 30,000 miles. A typical automatic fluid service interval ranges from 60,000 to 100,000 miles. The service interval recommended is always to be considered as the time when you need to change the automatic transmission fluid. If you decide to change it sooner it would do no harm to the system. I chose to service it more often because I bought my vehicle new and intended on keeping it through 300,000 miles.

Concerned, I wanted to get my transmission checked out by an ASE-certified mechanic after leaving Dana's in 2008. They wrote an opinion that the damage to the transmission was due to overstressing the drain plug, thereby cracking the transmission case, which then leaked tranny fluid. They also noted the installation of "JB Weld" around the plug and case, which appeared to have been installed within the last 24 hours. This material acts to temporarily plug holes and cracks in metal. It was also their opinion that this damage could not have been sustained by driving over an object or by an object striking the plug or case in that location. In their opinion, it could have only been sustained by overstressing the drain plug when they screwed it back in following the tranny fluid drain-and-fill service.

Still at the mechanic's shop, the tranny was low on fluid, only a few hours after leaving Dana's, and the "JB Weld" was cracked. The choice was offered to replace the transmission case (estimate $3,400 inclusive) or put more "JB Weld" over the temporary "JB Weld" patch already in place, until I could bring the car back for the replacement case.

I took this opinion to the owner and manager of Dana's Transmissions, Thom Sheridan and Mike Ridings. They did not want to hear about the technical details of the ASE mechanic's letter. They both agreed to simply refuse responsibility and shun my claim to get needed repairs paid by them.

I took the car to a dealer to see what trade-in value there was toward a new car. Dealers inspect trade-ins and, when they found the transmission damage, told me they could not offer any trade-in value because internal damage was possible to the transmission due to the history of leaking tranny fluid. Yes, I know dealers like to lower trade-in values, but the point is that Dana's Transmission's mistakes are causing me even more expense and trouble.

Six months later, I drive cautiously in fear that the transmission may die, leaving me with a worthless car. I am suing Dana's at this time in small claims court. Dana's Transmissions ruined my transmission. This is a cautionary advisory so you don't give trust to a shop not deserving of it.

I purchased a fully rebuilt transmission from Dana?s in May of 07. Thom the owner of Dana?s completely stands behind his work and products until you have a problem. After $3000 dollars 25,000 miles and 1 year and 10 months my transmission is shot. Thanks Thom. So I took it in because overdrive was out. They said the solenoids where bad and my 4 wheel drive was out. I told them to only fix the transmission. After a couple days of phone tag, or in there case phone dodge. I got my truck back, 100 miles later the problem was still there. Overdrive went out and now my transmission was over heating. By the way 4 wheel drive still worked there was no problem there. My calls where avoided for 4 days. In this time I took it to 3 different transmission shops. Every shop said the same thing, weird. Torque converter clutch problem and no rpm stop. Witch is why overdrive would turn off because the transmission was getting so hot because it was working so hard like Thom?s mouth. So after calling repeatedly and every time Thom was on a test drive or in the shop, I went there. Thom screamed at me about how every one is wrong and it?s electrical. He said I could leave my truck and to stop calling him. After mimicking me and using profanity he took a phone call and left the room. I had heard enough. I left his office and got in my truck. He followed me out to tell me I could go get ripped off somewhere else and told me never to come back. Thank god. I told him all I was trying to do was leave and he must really like to here himself talk. He then proceeded to slam my truck door on me. Nothing says customer service like assault. Life is to short to have to deal with people and businesses like this. There are better shops out there where you don?t have to feel like your doing business with a used car salesmen. If you want a used car though they are sold in front of Danas, how ironic.

Pros: None

Cons: Thom

My transmission went out in my truck and I asked my freinds where to take my truck, Dana's was one of the two shops recommened. I had it the towed up to the shop, I told them that I don't like vehicle problems at all and I wanted the trany built strong and I paid extra to have this done. I had the truck back one month and the transmission went out on HWY 2 Memorial day night, after five hours and two tow trucks to get my truck and trailer off the HWY and a $1450.00 tow bill. Dana's stated that it was the pump or something and TO BAD about the tow bill. Now the latest is XMAS night the 25th the transmission went out again, and the truck is in eastern WA waiting to get fixed. I only put 10,000 miles on it. I'll keep you posted on the latest tow bill and repair adventure. I took a bus to Everett from Wenatchee to get home and pickup another vehicle to get my family and trailer home again.

I am a long time customer of Dana's, been coming in since the early 80's. I was in the shop the day the izzardking was there to pick up his truck. What I saw was a kid with a mouth on him, a mother with an attitude (I would have been embarassed to have my mom defending me at his age), and a shop owner who made the choice not to work on a vehicle. I talked to Tom, he showed me an estimate in his machine for $2,200.00 plus tax, but he didn't stop there, he called the local Jeep dealer and the cost of a "Factory" rebuilt unit was almost $2,400.00 PLUS INSTALLATION! Oh, and they only sell rebuilt units, not new. So to the kid who left tire marks in Dana's parking lot speeding out in anger, you might believe your own BS, but those of us who know Dana's will feel safer coming in knowing you won't be pealing out of there in the future.

Well, I was just looking for the phone number because I'm calling to get their recommendation on a friend's vehicle and I noticed they got blasted by somebody who wasn't happy. They treated me very well and I am compelled to support them. I bought a 2001 Yukon XL with the 8.1L engine and it immediately started shifting so hard it was giving me whiplash. Well, so much for the good deal on Craigslist. Not being totally happy with the last transmission place I used, I started asking around at the auto parts dealers and the most recommended was Dana's. I called around and they weren't the cheapest but sometimes you get what you pay for. I thought they did a great job and the transmission has been going strong ever since. They were very professional and courteous to me and my family. Now if they could just improve the mileage on that thing!
I will definitely use them for my next transmission.

here is my dana's story,
i had the transmission in my 5.9l jeep go out on me @ 150,000 miles or so and took it into dana's transmission for a quote, got a call back a day later with a quote of 2,800 plus whatever "extra" was broken or needed to be replaced, being from the field that i am, i'm used to not just taking the first quote around, we are required to get at least 3 quotes for every purchase we make, so i see no problem in "shopping around" and trying to find the hybrid in cost/quality, i found a better deal elsewhere so i had my car taken there, i got my new transmission installed for 1,600 with a brand new factory direct transmission from mopar with a 3 yr/unlimited mile warranty far better than anything Dana's offered.

my transmission was installed and has been running fine, untill i swapped out the transfer case of a more rugged one, i did the work my self. During this process i may have messed something up, Dana's being the closest shop and thinking there was no hard feelings i stopped by to have them "tune it for me" untill i get an angry phone call from "THOM" chewing me out for taking my truck somewhere else, when i arrived to pick up my truck- i got a ride from my mother- i picked up my keys and left, she wanted to know why he was being like this and cussing us out over what is just a matter of economics/business, he then threatened to call the cops on me if i ever returned. This just floored me ... i wasn't even there talking to him ...at no time did i ever raise my voice or make any sort of insult, just merely pointed out i'm a 26 yr old guy who can't always afford everything so i got the better deal, and i wanted him to do some work for me that i could actually afford at this time.i have not seen anybody act so childish in a long time, i'll just leave it at that, check my reputation out @ thesamba_com and jeepsunlimited_com, quit having buddies write reviews for you, no one was there..check insider pages to i'm not the only one.

Dana's was the most honest and had the best customer service I have ever experienced in an auto repair shop. I went there with a free coupon for a diagnostic check. They went right to it and the results were positive, nothing wrong with my car. Because of their honesty and the great customer service we brought my husbands car in. His transmission went out right at this time.
Thom told us what different problems could be going on with the transmission, and quoted us prices for each situation. They took a little longer then we thought and for that they are replacing the heater fan in my car for free. Talk about service!

I brought my Subaru in for what I thought was a broken clutch. Tom had the car on the rack and his mechanic performing a diagnostic on the car before I even got done filling out the paperwork. Unfortunately the problem was not the clutch, but a more serious engine problem. Tom really tried to help me find another used engine because he knew I didn't want to put a lot of money into it. I ended up not having the work done and giving it to my son instead since he is a pretty good mechanic. Tom didn't charge me a dime for the work they had done or storing the car until I could have it towed. Tom really values the customer and Dana's is a shop you can trust. I have done business at Dana's before and will certainly be back. Paul C. Anderson
