Really good steaks (I hang out with a lot of meat eaters, what can I say?), but this neighborhood has become so crowded, you can hardly ever get in without waiting. It seems even when you manage to make reservations, you still have to wait, and they don't have a good waiting area. We love their food and if we happen to plan a very early or very late dinner, we'll go in for steaks, but not at prime seating.

This is by far the best steak i have ever had. The prices are a little high but i didn't mind after i tasted the steak. Jak's is a nice neighborhood restaurant with a variety of items on there menu.

Nebraska corn fed beef aged 28 days and cooked right - need I say more? Small place kept busy with a steady stream of customers. Good service, clean, neat and efficient service. Small bar area if you want to drop in after work for a drink and catch a game on the tv's as well

Service was unpretentious, atmosphere was casual, yet certainly not "pub like", and the quality of the meat and the value of the meal put Jaks well ahead of other more expensive steak restaurants I've been to. A great recommend - and well worth the wait!

Pros: Steak you can cut with a Fork!

Cons: The Wait

I used to dine quite often at the West Seattle Jak's and have been to the Laurelhurst location several times, but was quite disappointed at the quality of the food on this visit.

I had the halibut special and my sister the filet mignon medallions. The food came quite quickly and it's a nice touch that the meal comes with a rather large salad (although my sister's vinaigrette dressing kind of tasted like half-rotting vegetables).

The real disappointment was my sister's filet which was quite mediocre and not particularly tasty. She ended up eating the dungeness crab off the top and leaving the steak! My seared halibut with shrimp had some spice and kick to it.

Our server, who was really attentive and knowledgeable about the food and wine made an excellent recommendation for a red to go with my meal and that's why there's an extra star rating in this review. Otherwise, it'd be 2 stars.

The food is great and the atmosphere is always lively. I make this a dining destination whenever my sister comes to visit. I have never had a problem with the service, the servers have always been polite. The only issue is that there is limited parking and you have to wait a little to be seated, but that comes with a good restaurant.

The food was decent--nothing super spectacular. I didn't have any bad experience with the service, such as the other reviewers described. But if I had to complain about anything, the seats aren't very comfortable. I thought the hostess was pretty hot, too haha.

Hey, I was checking out the scene at JaK's Grill in Laurelhurst. What was I thinking? In reading the review about the cook not washing his hands after he used the urinal I thought the person doing the review was over the top. How could this be so?....... Here's the thing.......although we laughed about how disgusting this is, me and two co-workers got together to see if the restaraunt was still in business, yep, yep. So we had a few beers.....bottled of course. We saw and heard the tall cook with that earpiece, yelling at the servers!!!!! Wow he must be "ALL THAT" and a handfull of hairy nuts Chuckle, chuckel...........

The food is fine here, but they have a huge problem with getting customers in and out. We stood around with throngs of others while uncleaned tables sat empty for 10-20 minutes; obviously they don't have enough staff bussing tables. The wait staff is also very stretched -- not checking on how our food was, and completely AWOL for about 30 minutes. If I'm going to be paying $30 for a steak and $12 for a glass of wine, I expect much more.

My boyfriend took me here for our 1 year anniversary, since we both had a giant steak craving. After poking around Citysearch for awhile, and reading a lot of the reviews about snobby service and average food at the upscale places (Metropolitan, Palisades, El Gaucho), we decided to give this place a shot. What a great experience! We came a bit late, and probably waited around half an hour (although they told us a wait time of an hour), since the place wasn't that big. We started with our pick of either a balsamic vinegar or blue cheese salad, with yummy warm bread and butter. I got the filet mignon (OMG sooo tasty...very flavorful and done to perfection) and my boyfriend got the 24oz porterhouse steak, which was way huge but not as good as mine--of course I'm being facetious. The service was very good, not snippy at all (although he didn't smile that much). I got the mashed potatoe side, which wasn't that flavorful, and my boyfriend got the yummiest baked potatoe that was full of everything you can imagine. Next time we want to try the potatoe cakes! Overall excellent experience, and it won't break a college student's budget :)

Jak's consistently has delicious steaks - they tend to cook their meat on the rarer side so if you want medium-rare, ask for it done medium. Last saturday we had the special ahi tuna dish which was outstanding. We really like that the corkage fee is very reasonable too. You can always count on genuinely nice wait staff.

Pros: friendly service, reasonable corkage fee, big portions

Cons: not much for ambience, no appetizers

I'm not sure what the big deal is about this place. The bill is usually half of what one would spend at El Gaucho and The Met but the steaks are nowhere as good, even if they use the same steaks. And I'm not so sure if JaK's cooks the same steaks as those at The Met and El Gaucho. I'm sure it's dry aged 28 days, but either they get their steaks from a different source or they aren't discriminating enough when they pick their cuts. The first New York I had was well marbled but the second one was lean.

I'd rather pick my own cuts at Double Meats and cook at home.

the service is very good here and the steaks are even better. there is great atmosphere and it is relaxed as well. the bartenders are friendly and coo and the bar is a good place to sit while you wait for a table. i have been three times and always had great food. even if they say the wait will be an hour or 45 minutes....i am usually seated in half that time or less. they do a great job here! i can't wait to go back!

My boyfriend and I went to Jaks Grill for his birthday and loved every minute of it. We were promptly seated (it was a tuesday). Our waitress was on top of everything, and our meals came out so fast. Our meals were to die for good! It is defenitely the place for anyone who wants a romantic night out with fantastic steak!!

There isn't a whole lot to say about Jak's. We were served by a "new guy" (it was his last day of training! Congrats!) who was quite possibly one of the best servers I've ever had the pleasure of being served by! He was prompt with drinks, very cordial, and he had a great attitude. The salads were served on nice chilled plates, and the bread was very warm and tasty. When our food came, I was excited at the size of my steak. (14oz top sirloin). I finished all of my food on my plate, the garlic mashed potatoes were amazing, and ordered dessert as well. This is one of my favorite restaurants, now, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves steak.

Great steaks and a lot of food for the price. Only downside is they don't take reservations - and they are usually packed so you'll be waiting a while on weekends. You can bring your own bottle of wine for a $15 cork fee.

A friend recommended this place to me and said it was better than Metropolitan Grille, so of course I had to try it out. While it lacks the whole ambiance that is the Met, Jak's makes great steaks, without the whole pretentious thing (and cheaper as well). Recently I took my father there for the first time and he loved it. They offer maybe 7 or so different kinds of steaks (and a couple different choices for potato sides). I had the smoky ribeye, which was really good. I was glad I ordered the larger size so I could have leftovers to eat for lunch the next day. When we were there they also had a couple seafood specials on the board, which sounded really good also. I like their selection of local wines & beer. I would highly recommend this place--out on Sandpoint Way towards Children's Hospital.
