My husband and I first stayed at The White Swan Guest House during our honeymoon. We spent the evenings looking out on the potato fields behind the old post fence (I never knew that potatoes smelled so good!) and playing games of backgammon. No phone, no television, no stress. We have never stayed in the main house, we always spring for the Cottage. It has a full kitchen (including utensils and cookware) and a washer/dryer (which came in really handy when I spilled my first martini as a married woman down the front of myself).

Peter Goldfarb (the proprietor) took excellent care of us. Upon checking in he asked what time he could bring breakfast over the next morning. He serves a delicious vegetarian continental breakfast with freshly baked muffins, fresh fruit, yogurt, fresh squeezed juice (and coffee if you desire). You can also go over to the main house if you wish where he cooks a breakfast. We usually opted to have him bring our breakfast over, but the one time that we did go ever to eat with everyone in the main house he made the most delicious waffles. Also, he keeps little jars of the best chocolate chip cookies I have ever tasted all around. There is always one filled up on the counter of the Cottage when we go.

The Cottage is charming and private- a well planted garden provides privacy from the main house- and the grounds are beautifully tended. The bathroom isn't huge, but it is delightfully old fashioned and the entire property is immaculate. Peter is more than happy to suggest restaurants and activities, and every place he suggested we loved.

There are large dogs in the main house (who are very sweet) but no animals in the Cottage which is great for people like me who have allergies. If you have children, they can stay in the Cottage (but not the main house), though I don't recommend taking children.

When my husband and I went back for our first anniversary, my husband secretly brought a replica of our wedding cake (a small one) and hid it in the main house. While we were out at dinner Peter took it to the cottage and set it up with plates, utensils, etc. so that I could be surprised when we got back. You just can't get that kind of personal service most places.

My husband and I agree that it is one of our favorite places in the whole world and we try to get back at least once a year for our anniversary if we possibly can. I highly recommend it. Go in the spring and you can catch the nearby Skagit County Tulip Festival.

We stayed here on a special occasion once. We chose to stay in the guest cottage instead of in the house for privacy. It was in late August and we were the only ones there. We received hand and foot treatment by the gentleman who owns the B&B. What a fantastic host and cook he is! He went out of his way to make sure we felt at home and he did not fail. Highly recommended.
