Bittersweet is my favorite Kent lunch spot
by Dana N.
Bittersweet is a quiet, cozy restaurant with great breakfasts and lunches. They opened for breakfast recently and I love it for a quiet way to start my day with a delicious, hot meal. I particularly love the Sour Dough French Toast but the Egg Strata of the Day is always a good choice too. For lunch, I love Bittersweet's selection of fresh sandwiches and salads. It's convenient, affordable and the staff is always friendly. I also enjoy visiting to look at the latest artwork on Bittersweet's walls. You never know what you're going to find - paintings, photography, sketches...it's always interesting and always local.

Not my first choice

Bittersweet is good but it's not my first choice for lunch. It's really noisy and they don't seem to make an effort to keep the dish noise down. The lunch is good but everything is so specialized that it's hard to find something very basic on the menu. The homemade soups are good and the special of the day can be very good, too. It's a little spendy for lunch.

My daughter took me here for lunch and it was very good. I like the specialty written on the chalkboard and it was so good. That day it was spinach quiche. They were very busy but didn't rush us for the table. The food was just delicious and the whole room looked so pretty. It was a little noisy to visit and the price was good.

This is a cute place with a great brunch or lunch menu. The food tastes fresh and homecooked, and it is a nice change if you want to get out of the Kent Station chain restaurant area.

Always very crowded for lunch, great menu with homecooked food being offered. The soups are great, as well as the lunch specials. The choices are varied and interesting, some unique combinations. Their quiche is wonderful, and the desserts are a wonderful way to top off a light lunch. Would recommend this establishment for unique dining, it has been in business a long time and caters well to the lunch crowd.

Delicious breakfasts & lunches
by DanaN
Bittersweet has quickly become a family favorite for weekend breakfasts (we love the Sour Dough French Toast, baked eggs and strata of the day) or for lunch with friends or clients. They have great daily specials and most meals are under $10, so it is affordable. The food is fresh, the customer service is good and I love their homemade desserts. My favorite is the Reese's peanut butter cup cookie. I always take some home for my family when I stop in.
Pros: Fresh food, good service

BROCOLI PIE SUPREME
by DonJackieCase
THE BITTERSWEET HAS BEEN A FAVORITE PLACE FOR LUNCH FOR OVER 20 YEARS. IT WAS A DESTINATION PLACE FOR LUNCH ONCE A MONTH WHEN EMPLOYEED AT THE GLIDER FACTORY IN KENT. WE ALWAYS EXPECTED TO SEE THE BIG BOSS CEF CHOWING DOWN.
WE ENJOY HAVING LUNCH EVEN TODAY WITH OUT OF TOWN GUESTS FOR THEIR EXCELLENT ASSORTMENT OF HALF SANDWICH AND SOUP. THE BROCOLLI PIE IS TO DIE FOR. SAVE ROOM FOR THE BREAD PUDDING WHEN THEY HAVE IT. THE STAFF IS EXCELLENT AND GOOD PARKING DOWN THE STREET.
I RECENTLY FOUND CEF THRU THE WHITE PAGES AND WE ENJOYED RECALLING OUR LUNCHES AT BITTERSWEET. IT IS GOOD TO HAVE GOOD MEMORIES WHEN YOU REACH THE 80 PLATEAU.

Big and Wonderful Changes at the Bittersweet!
by customerk5903849
I stopped in for lunch with some friends recently and was pleased and surprised to see the new, modern menu. WELCOME TO THE 21ST CENTURY, BITTERSWEET RESTAURANT! My dining companion had the lovely pumpkin lasagna which was layered with a fabulous pumpkin seed pesto. The noodles tasted fresh rather than the dried, boxed variety. It came with a light but satisfying house salad. I had the luscious island pork tenderloin sandwich which was nestled in a crusty sourdough baguette. The thinly sliced and perfectly cooked pork was warm and slightly spicy and was surrounded by a crunchy cumin red cabbage slaw. The parsnip fries are a lovely alternative to the bag of chips they used to give out with sammys.
If you haven't been to the Bittersweet in awhile, I recommend you return for a wonderful surprise. They are also opening for breakfast soon!
Pros: Parsnip Fries are delicious and unique!
Cons: They should remove the "enchilada" since it's dates and certainly NOT what an enchilada!

GREAT FOOD, WONDERFUL ATMOSPHERE

LAST WEEK MY HUSBAND AND I HAD LUNCH FOR THE THIRD TIME AT THE BITTERSWEET LOCAYED IN DOWNTOWN KENT. THE FOOD GETS BETTER EVERY TIME WE EAT THERE. BITTERSWEET WILL DEFINENTLY BE SEEING US BACK AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE IN THE FUTURE. GREAT FOOD, EXCELLENT SERVICE AND THE PRICE IS RIGHT. RECOMMEND ANYONE LOOKING TO DINE IN DOWNTOWN TOWN KENT TO CHOSE THE BITTERSWEET!
Pros: GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE
Cons: THEY ARE ONLY OPEN 6 DAYS A WEEK

Old favorite

My mom and I used to go to bittersweet almost weekly. They have great sandwiches (except I got a hair in mine, TWICE, yuck!) and my mom loves the salads. Personally, I only return for dessert. Even then, go across the street to the wild wheat, way better selection.

The Best Restaurant In Kent
by lth7020
The atmosphere at the Bittersweet is comfortable and elegant. The lighting is soft and fine paintings of local Kent artists adorn the exposed brick walls. Light classical music or jazz adds to the ambiance. The service is outstanding. Most days Jim Krier, the owner, will come over and chat with you during your meal. As often as not, he will offer you a complimentary glass of your favorite beverage (perhaps wine or in my case non alcoholic beer).
The restaurant offers a number of delicious set entrees such as lasagna (both meat and vegetarian), broccoli pie, a chicken burrito and an assortment of salads soups and deserts. In addition, there is a rotating menu of special items that changes at least once a week. Recently I enjoyed a wonderful dish of Beef Stroganoff.
The restaurant stays open for dinner on Friday evenings and live entertainment is usually offered.
Pros: Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Great Service
Cons: Dinner only on Friday

A Favorite Lunch in Kent
by tinfoilgrl
This is the best place in Kent for homemade bread, clam chowder and apple crisp. Bittersweet has excellent ranch dressing, too, atop a handsome portion of side salad offering mushrooms, cheese, and pickled beans. I rather think this is a woman-y restuarant, the perfect place to bring one's mom or best friend to catch up on the latest gossip. By the way, I sure do miss the "cream cheese and advocado with sprouts" sandwich, replaced by a cream cheese and cucumber sandwich that is still good but no comparison to its veggie predecessor.
Pros: Always delicious food
Cons: , parking, limited menu

The sandwiches looked really good and the menu prices seemed ok. But ...
