The only other tours I've ever enjoyed are in New Orleans- typically they really turn me off.But this tour is a gas and I highly recommend it.There is no way to see what they show you without the tour- the guides are knowledgeable and it's extremely interesting.

ETA: I'm not a scientist or statistician so I don't know what (if any)
conclusion to draw from this- but I just noticed that every person
who reviewed the Seattle Underground Tour is an Insider of some rank.

(Hmmmm. Interesting. There must be some correlation :)

Seattle's underground has been well preserved, and it is a fascinating place. The tours are very popular. The guides know so much about Seattle's history, and are very good at imparting it in an interesting way. This is a great and unique place to take out-of-town visitors, as well as for us locals to take in.

PROS: A very unique way to review Seattle's history.

This is such a fun way to learn about the history of Seattle and to go back in time for an afternoon. If you love learning about the history of a place this is a must see in Seattle.

If you love history, this is a great tour to get some first hand history about Seattle. It is a bit cold and damp, but a fun trip and great information.

The Underground Tour in Seattle is very interesting and educational. It's a great place for tourism or an afternoon activity. Just look out for rats and you'll be fine!

I was pretty reluctant to go on the tour, especially after hearing about the rats, but it turned out to be very enjoyable and I've returned to it a couple of times. They take you on a tour of old Seattle which is completely underground - the new city was built on top of it after the fire. They also give some fascinating historical tidbits which you won't find in history books. Very enjoyable especially for tourists.

As far as touristy places go - the underground tour I think would have to be my favorite. It's unlike anything you have ever done before! I loved the tour guides knowledge and it made me really think about what life was like back then. Plus it's so cool to see part of his huge city that used to be on a whole different level. I wouldn't take kids on this tour but adults would love it! Watch out for the rats though - I saw a couple of them down there and it was pretty gross.

Located in the oldest part of the city, Pioneer Square, this is one of the most fascinating (if touristy) areas of Seattle to explore. The first third of the tour consists of a humorous lecture on the history of the immediate area, but soon you'll set to walking outside and touring what's essentially the basement of several old buildings. There you will explore the ruins of the Seattle that was in the late 1800's, in the time before a great fire decimated that part of the city and Seattle was eventually rebuilt on top of itself.

This tour gave a bit of Seattle's history showing where buildings and streets used to be and told about Seattle before the big fire. I loved the prism colors that were in the ceilings and are now on the streets and can still be seen, if you know what you're looking at. Enjoyed the tour guide, she seemed very knowledgeable and enthuastic. I think we got really lucky with the one we had, she made everything so enjoyable. Save your dots, they're worth a discount on a beer after the tour.

PROS: They cram a lot of information in a brief amount of time.
CONS: If you have difficulty walking or going up and down stairs, skip this.

We've been a little hesitant to do the tour since some of the guidebooks characterized it as a "tourist trap" type attraction. Well, this was definitely wrong in this case. We thouroughly enjoyed the tour. Since it is completely underground, this is something you can save for a rainy day in Seattle (you know, it never rains here, right :-)) You will start out with a breif lecture/presentation in a historic remodeled saloon/bar type room (stay downstairs even if they tell you to go upstairs) where they tell you about the tour and history of Seattle. There will be probably several tour guides. They will divide you in several groups (2-3), and off you go. Stick with a tour guide you like from the initial presentation. They take you, well, underground. It used to be Seattle's streets and 1st stories of the buildings in the last century, but now it is hidden underground. There isn't a lot of preserved stuff other than building and streets themselves - only a few pieces of furniture. However, the narration of the tour guide was very interesting and made the whole experience enjoyable. At about $10/person, you can't beat this inexpensive and interesting historic attraction.

PROS: Historic, interesting, inexpensive.
CONS: Not a whole lot to see other then building, although lots of stairs.

The local people that run the Seattle Underground tour do a fabulous job of integrating Seattles brief history, with light comedy, and other interesting facts, to make this tour a must visit part of Seattle. I found it fascinating to learn about how Seattle was built, then burnt down to the ground, only to be rebuilt in a rush with only pseudo controlled planning by the government and people.

The Underground Tour is a good tourist activity to take out-of-town guests on. The tour guides are friendly, there are many tours every day, and it is a fun way to learn more about the history of downtown Seattle. Some of the information they tell you is hard to believe, but it is true! It is an interesting experience and worth doing once.

The Underground bar is not for those that are faint of heart. It's a bar in a basement. However you have to experience it to understand it. You go down these big cement stairs that lead to a very dark overcrowed bar where the air is hot and humid and the walls and even the ceiling are dripping wet! The people that frequent there can only be best described as characters! I don't recommend going into the bathroom by yourself... actually I don't recommend going anywhere in there alone!!! The dance floor, (if you can see it) is like this writhing mass of people that all seem to be doing their own thing. Strange place.

PROS: an experience like none other
CONS: kinda scarey

I have been on the Underground Tour a few different times. When family and friends come to town it is always enjoyable for all of us to go on the tour. You will learn how Seattle used to be one level below where you know it to be now, and what that entailed and what it was like. The most interesting facts are all the historical facts about old Seattle that you will learn. Tour guides are entertaining as well as informative. Prices are reasonable.

The Underground Tour is a great little educational journey under the Seattles BUSY sidewalks and city streets. It's quite interesting and entertaining. The kids were VERY bored though.

I took my 9 year old nephew on the underground tour last summer, and my mistake was building it up too much for him. He had this picture in his mind of a fully functioning underground world filled with Mole-People and/or C.H.U.D. this is, of course, not the case. the tour lasts about 90 minutes and the history presented is fascinating if you are not a 9 year old boy. he was bored, really, to tears.

PROS: great history, seattle was founded by whores... learn how!
CONS: boring if you're nine years old...

This is the place if you want that Seattle flavor. It was founded by one of the city leaders way back in the day when Seattle was a gold town. The bar has reasonable drink prices and a lot of colorful people. It is very happening on Friday and Sat. The Underground tours start from here.
