Reviews for Humane Society For Seattle

Ratings_icons Very Caring

The folks who run this shelter obviously care about their animals and they are very diligent in trying to match up the right animals with the right families. What I love most though is the various follow up services. For example, training. They have a bunch of training classes that you can take your newly adopted dog to and they offer extreme discounts if you got the dog from them.

The people here are super nice and very helpful. I was volunteering here every Sunday morning and found the staff to be sweet and flexible. I will be volunteering again, as soon as my schedule will allow.

Ratings_icons An Amazing Place to Adopt From

P. M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,052

I volunteered here for a few years before moving, and this place is amazing. The people who work here are dedicated to their jobs, and it is a tough but rewarding one. Animals are treated with care and love, and adopting form here is a wonderful experience. There are so many great programs offered to the public, from education, to boarding, to adopting, I can't say enough great things about this shelter!

PROS: Adopting here is saving a life
CONS: Sometimes long waits to adopt on weekends.

Ratings_icons Dog Training Classes for a Good Cause!

A C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,192

The Humane Society has several dog training classes, usually 6-week sessions, taught by professional dog trainers in the area. In addition to the high quality training class, you can feel good about supporting a great cause.

We have taken our dogs to 3 different classes here, taught by 2 different instructors and they were very useful. The large training auditorium is a nice facility that allows for dogs to keep far enough apart so as not to distract each other, but everyone can see and hear the instructor. The classes are small so each dog will receive some individual coaching throughout the class.

The fee is less expensive than most dog trainers in the area, and has the added bonus of supporting the Humane Society. Classes are offered at all levels, from puppy kindergarten all the way through advanced courses for therapy certification and AKC obedience certification. The instructors are great with both small and large dogs.

The only small complaint I have is that there is no time for dog socialization (except in the puppy class) due to liability issues. It would be nice to have a few minutes for dogs to play before they get down to business in the class.

We will definitely sign up for more classes here!
