Pros: It turns out they are knowledgeable and competent, they had enough staff, they were well-supplied, they shared technological diagnostic information, they were clean enough, they provided excellent (expensive) large animal transportation (stretcher/pick-up truck) navigating stairs easily, they respected their own "pecking order", they all got along, they pace their work, they have a family-style waiting room, and the office manager is a little gentler than she looks. They were good about advising of and consulting about progressive fees. They tried to keep expenses down. They really are open 24/7. They let me pre-pay in part the night before to make things easier the next day. The paperwork was short.

Cons: No bedside manner. Long lines. The customer restroom was dirty and out of tissue and towels when I used it at night. Horrible communications. They claim to do "free" exams, but I saw no exam. They just viewed my older pet and made their determination that she needed euthanasia. They didn't listen to her heart or breathing, they didn't take her temperature, etc... Since they didn't act like doctors, I didn't understand the basis for their determination. When I asked, they did not have time to communicate and their accent seemed very thick to me. They seemed impatient. They complained that she had a stool under her, as if I hadn't cleaned up after her, even though I told them she'd been down for a week and her abdomen was too tender to move. I cleaned up 13 stools in 7 days, and urine, yet they kept trying to say she hadn't been eating or drinking. I don't know where they were getting their conclusions. She wasn't even thin. Very little that they said made sense to me. I think they were jumping to conclusions because they had so many emergencies backed up. They had been so busy with backed up emergencies that my pet had to wait until the next day, and even then they were over an hour late, and they did not call to advise me. Because the pet could not be seen promptly, I missed a day of work. Like they warned me, I paid huge expenses for diagnostics, but it was because they didn't explain their diagnosis and didn't seem to examine the pet. They warned me against paying for unnecessary diagnostics, but they seemed incapable of explaining their diagnosis otherwise. The doctor focused on irrelevant, mild health conditions and explained those more than the critical condition. I don't think he even got out a stethascope. When I asked why he recommended euthanasia, I really think he gave me a load of b.s. When I questioned how he got to his conclusion, he basically said then go to the hospital and I hope you don't spend $600. I could not get real info out of him. The demeanor of the professionals was not unkind, but they acted like they knew everything and that I had no right to ask for a little explanation or understanding. I needed to hop home quickly to get something for the pet before euthanasia, yet they wanted to make me sign a complete release authorizing them to do whatever they wanted to her until I got back. When I explained that they were not authorized to do anything until I got back, they let me sign a promise that I would come back, but later the doctors treated me and even my pet icily, during euthanasia, even though I had a friend with me. They barely made eye contact and when we thanked them for their services, they barely responded. There was a point when something I said clearly, twice, was completely ignored by one of the Caucasion staff members. The professional staff were so icy and barely perfunctory that I didn't even get to ask for a water bowl. My pet was thirsty and drank out of a big plastic bottle cap instead. They keep the facility very warm, like 78 degrees. They administered the first sedative so fast that my pet sort of collapsed, instead of gently sedating her. However, they followed up with correct euthanisia and made sure it worked by listening to her heart. When I asked where the body goes for group cremation, I was given no brochure or card or phone number. They said Pet Haven, and there are many Pet Havens online so how do I know how to get a hold of them? Why didn't think have a brochure or something to demonstrate their contract with Pet Haven?

I am a little late in writing this review, but figured I should share my story since I had just referred a friend to the clinic. I have a 3lb Chihuahua, named Lili, who is absolutely my world. On December 29, 2010, I noticed something was wrong with her. She seemed really lethargic and there were bubbles coming out of her mouth and she had no desire to do anything but lay down and look sad. Lili was an inside dog and rarely associated with any other animals so I didn't know what to think, except that something wasn't right. I had to work, but I had my father take her in for me knowing the seriousness of her condition. Luckily I reacted so quickly because she wouldn't have made it another night if I hadn't.

As soon as I got off work i rushed down to the clinic, the office staff did everything they could to ease my mind, explain to me what they planned on doing, the cost of the care, walked through all of the tests that they had performed on her, they even brought her out to cuddle with me for a little while. Lili was on 24 hour ICU care for about 2 days.

I was so amazed at the care they provided for Lili, and at the price they charged me! It was only a fraction of what any other emergency vet hospital (or even a regular vet for that matter) would have charged.

Amazing place, I can imagine taking my pets anywhere else!

When my dog got hit by car, i was sure it will be catastrophic for me. I am unemployed and surviving on my savings. when i explained my situation to Dr Goraya, he did the bone surgery in a fraction of cost what other emergency hospital was quoting to me. If this hospital was not here, I am sure because of limited funds, i would have to put my dog to sleep. God bless you !!

These vets are wonderful. I had 2 separate emergencies with one of my dogs. The first was a broken tooth and infection that they treated, removing the tooth. The second was my dog eating one of his toys, which I didn't realize at the time, and I took him in because he was vomiting. They gave him emergency surgery practically on the spot, explained everything to me including showing me the x-rays of his stomach and the extensive damage the toy had caused. They treated him extremely well, and even though they weren't 100% sure he would recover, he recovered perfectly. They operated on him for hours and the price was extremely fair. I also love that you don't need an appointment, and I can drop in when I need to.

Like many of us, I have worked with too many sleazy auto repair places and have paid the price a few too many times. Roosevelt Auto has been a pleasure to do business with, they are an honorable business and I recommend them highly.

2nd time we have had a bad experience, there will not be a 3rd. 1st time Vet left stitches in after "removing them". This time cat had UTI & they wanted to keep her overnight & do X-Rays for $450. Ended up leaving her for 3 hours to do urinalysis & blood draw. Went back & when we called for results, they didn't know that they had done urinalysis, they didn't know that they had given her antibiotics both a shot & take home. Wanted us to bring her back for those. Still charged $254. Could not understand Vet at all. Will never go back!

I am incredibly impressed! The staff was extremely friendly. The veterinarian was very knowledgable. He explained every possible procedure that could be done with my dogs' skin condition. When I came back to pick up Coco, he explained to me, in detail, what all the test results meant and follow-up care! Do not be put off by the appearance of the building! They are re-building from the ground up this year! I can't wait to see the new office! I did have to wait awhile for my appointment, as there was many patients/owners waiting, but that only showed me that they must be worth the wait!! And... they were!! A+++

South Seattle Veterinary Hospital provides excellent care and service for furry kids. They provided special care with never ending patience to answer my questions and late night phone calls as I struggled with my late retired greyhound coming to the end of his life. I trust them explicitly to provide options and honest information. It is only because their services are reasonably priced that I can provide adequate and comprehensive care for my foster dogs and cats, as well as my forever home younger greyhound. Thanks for making it possible for all critters to get the care they deserve. Also, I work full-time during the day so the clinic hours are amazing. Thanks again for your commitment working day and night - it is much appreciated!

I can not say enough good about South Seattle Veterinary Hospital! The staff is passionate about their work, they love animals, and they are very friendly! They have been able to diagnose problems that other veterinary clinics haven't and their prices are not just a less money, but a whole lot less money than any other vets we have ever been too! The vets and medical staff take their time and explore options with you, and you leave feeling confident for the best outcome for your pets. This place is such a goldmine that we are willing to travel 40 miles to have our pets seen there. I don't believe there is a better veterinary clinic or hospital anywhere! Sue from Sumner

My first impression wasn't so great I felt the doctors gave me the simplest treatmeant possible. However after returning at doctors request I returned skeptical but walking in the doctor took Care of me problem. Also the girl up front I believe her name tag said Courtney was bright with a smile and made me laugh. She was a breath of fresh air compared to my morning visit during the week! I will difinently return.

Both of my cats have been seen at this clinic. I am very happy with the quality and cost. I've recommended this clinic to many friends; two of whom now travel form North Seattle to the South end just for the care their cats receive.

Dr. G and the rest of the staff were life savers. My husband and I were worried sick about our kitty who had been throwing up everything she ate. They got us in immediately without an appointment, and they were available for calls 24 hrs/day. When we had dropped her off for the night, I was in tears, and the office manager had the presence of mind and compassion to tell me that I could call and check up on her as often as I wanted. Thank you for everything.

I have been using this vet for about 6 months. In this time, my baby has had a tumor surgically removed, a leg injury fixed and is currently being treated for a heart condition that every other vet we have ever encountered missed. They are so caring. When I call for updates, they are so considerate and either update me at the time or the doc calls me back in a timely manner. If I want to visit my dog while she is "in the hospital", I can just stop in and they will get her. They took me back and showed me the x-rays and patiently answered all of my questions about treatment, cost and diagnosis. I love my dog soooo much more than words can express and I trust SSVH with her care. They serve a lot of people and pets and whenever I walk in the door to buy food, Lisa knows who I am, whether my dog is with me or not. The costs are reasonable and I love the long hours they are available. That is how I found them, I needed a vet that was open on a Sunday. Wow, I am so glad I found them...

Board Certified in India, Dr. Goraya is absolutely the highest quality veterinary surgeon in the Puget Sound region. He supports rescuers, who in turn help build his business. His prices are fair and the quality is so outstanding, it defies words. I was recruited into his practice when he purchased it from Dr. Passmore. He immediately went to King County Animal Control where I volunteer (now King County Regional Animal Services) and left behind a pack of price and business cards. He started with rescuers and treated us well. I recommend his practice to all of my adoptive families. Rescuers would be sunk without him, we've never had it so good.

My wife and I brought our two Toy Poodles to the South Seattle Veterinary Hospital to have their teeth cleaned and scaled. The receptionist was helpful, friendly and professional.

Dr. Nagra attended to us quickly and in a very friendly, professional manner. He had a genuine interest in our dogs and explained the entire process. The process takes several hours because the dogs are put under general anesthesia. When we picked Marcus and Dallas up, they were very alert and happy to see us.

Our dogs had had their teeth cleaned at another vet hospital 2 years ago. The dogs were heavily sedated when we picked them up and they were not normal for a day.

We have requested that all of the dog's medical records be transferred to South Seattle Veterinary Hospital and they will be our new vet. The service and results were the best that we have had and their fees are lower than our former vets.

Do yourself and your pets a favor and visit SS Vet Hospital.

They are honest and fair to us. I just love them! Do note, the building is older and might give the apperance that it's not as clean as it should be, but this isn't the case at all. I've been in all the back areas and the animals are well cared for, cages clean, and no foul smells. Hygiene is defiantly important to them.

They are truly great vets, I had a sick rabbit and the quality of life was bad, when we decided to put him down, they were understanding and compassionite, plus very professional. Our little rabbit had been with us for years and across the country, they made a terrible ordeal bearable. We now will drive way out of our way to take our pets to them!

Dr. G. was just amazing, The surgical procedure he did responded much more quickly than we expected, and it's been difficult keeping Rosey from resuming her life as usual behavior, while the muscles fully heal : ) Did I mention that I really love this dog and Dr, G became a vet because he really loves dogs! There's no bottom line like that bottom line : ) I called about a gazillion times with questions, and always got a cheerful, informed response. I also went to the clinic six times, even though we live 35 miles away. Dr G's staff really loves animals and lots of them came and went while we were there, but Rosey is such a pill about eliminating all other dogs from planet Earth, that I didn't get to meet many of them : ( Rosey is my best friend and I felt like she was in the most caring and capable hands in Seattle! After mistakenly believing that a board certified orthopedic surgeon was the only real choice, I was blessed to find a library of reviews for this wonderful hospital and now I am adding mine. Like Brett Farve says, " You can pay more, but you won't get more. " Rosey hated the Elizabethan collar, so one evening as she was falling asleep, I took it off, and stayed up all night to see that she didn't lick her wound or pull out her stitches : ) If you love someone that much, why would you trust her to a vet who loved her any less??? I would recommend South Seattle Veterinary Hospital to anyone without hesitation. It will always be Rosey's and my hospital. Basenji mixes rule!!!!

I brought our setter pup in after being hit by an Access Bus and was so grateful for the kindness and timeliness showed by all the staff. Dr. Goraya was wonderful. He called me every 2 hours with updated reports and treatments. He offered options to us if we wanted to transfer the dog to an intensive care facility. I know that everything possible was being done for our pet and all treatments were exactly as we would have done for people in an emergency room. I am so impressed with care from all of those involved in such a scary situation.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for saving our little guy. You are the greatest.

the most amazing vet ever. Instead of paying for a fancy building in a high rent neighbor hood your money goes to quality health care and honestly paid staff. I could not possibly give a higher recommendation than to drive no matter how far away to use this clinic! They are honest, fairly priced, and truly caring people who seem to take the same passion about your pet as you would. They have made a life time customer out of me-

Thanks Rusty and Jessica ( and kona the pup)

Every person who works at South Seattle Veterinary Hospital is uniquely caring and dedicated to the health and well-being of their patients. Lisa at the front desk is AMAZING! Sometimes she reminds me of an air-traffic controller, always busy and in demand but still focused, efficient, and definitely puts animals first. The Vets themselves are all genuinely kind, good-hearted professionals who have consistently exhibited a great deal of intelligence and compassion. For a place that charges 1/3 of the price vet clinics in Downtown Seattle do, you'll get 10x the quality of service.

Whether it's an emergency or just a check up, South Seattle Vet will give your pet the best care available. I won't take my 17 year old kitty any place else!

Through the years I have met many veterinarians, but never one as compassionate as Dr. Goraya. I have been taking my two chihuahuas to him for going on 2 years and in December 2008, I had to put my 13 year old to sleep. Dr. Goraya and his staff were very caring and this made the difference for me.

Misty was with me for 13 years and she was the best friend that anyone could ever have. I miss her, but know that she was in good hands with Dr. Goraya.

If you have a pet and want a doctor that cares then you must see Dr. Goraya.

It took me a long time to find a vet I could trust to take care of my babies, Dr G. and Lisa are so amazing no matter what they are up against. From my Labrador with severe allergies to my rats needing treatment for respiratory illness Dr G. knows his stuff. I would recommend South Seattle to anyone wanting the BEST for their pet!

Dr. G Rocks!!!! I have been bringing me beagles here for a couple of years now and I appreciate the caring staff and the excellant care provided. You could not find a more reasonable rated pet hospital. No matter what time you call, day or night, they are always there to offer a helping hand. Thanks Dr. G.

I recently had to have my 210 lb mastiff put to sleep. Dr. Nagra came out to my house to examine him because I could not get him to the car. Dr. G returned the following day, on his day off by the way, to put him to sleep.

I could not recommend this group of vets more. Kindness and compassion are the norm. I recently moved further away from these guys and I would still do not have a problem driving 25 minutes to seek their care.

Great Vet, Great Staff

I have been taking my furry family members here since I moved to Seattle. I have gotten them all fixed and even had to take my cats to get declawed here. They sent home all the instuctions that we were going to need and all Meds they were to have. I have even had to make a lae night trip when my dog had a problem with her eye at 9pm. I called them in a panic and they told me to bring her right in, they fixed the problem and she came home that night. I trust the staff with all my needs for my pets. The prices are very affordible and the staff has always addressed any questions that I have asked promptly. Will stay with them as long as I have 4 legged family members

This hospital runs under par in every conceivable sense of the word. From the way the patients are handled and ""treated"" to the schedules the nurses are working. From the doctors desire for money to the uncleanliness of the facility itself.
Yes he has better prices than anyone around but the saying ""you get what you pay for"" is so very true in this case when corners are being cut to keep prices low in the testing and treatment of your pets!
No i do not recommend this hospital for any person who actually cares about the care and treatment that your pet will recieve while in his care.

Anyone can write such grand reviews in regards to this veterinary clinic-hospital; I personally wrote a review a little over one month ago in regards to having taken my elderly calico cat to this clinic-doctor.\r
I DID know myself that she was very ill. A friend and I took my cat in, where she was kept over night. As it was(of which I wrote in my first review), the doctor (Harvir Goraya) called me several days afterwards and was very vague as to exactly what was wrong with her. He essentially conveyed unto myself that she ""needed to be put on a special diet...that she would never gain any weight "". NOT ONCE did he ever relay to myself ANY diagnosis; I was totally horrified to learn through another person-agency ( Furry Faces of West Seattle ) that my cat had kidney failure ( and to further insult my itteligence, said person told me that there was a ' misunderstanding- miscommunication / language barrier ' of that of Dr. Gorayas; this is ABSURD; I would testify under oath in a court of law that NO definite diagnosis was ever given to me ).\r
Again, it is my personal opinion that this doctors license should be revoked

I highly recommend this vet! Amazing prices and wonderful staff. Dr. G is fantastic and extremely realistic. I called various vets in the area to get my cat spayed and was quoted prices from $150 to $400. South Seattle Veterinary Hospital quoted me a price that was much more affordable and bellow the other vets' ranges. Then (!) they told me about a coupon in the Value Paks that would save me more $. One of my cats is also having two knee surgeries and the price is extremely competitive. The vet also has great hours and is open weekends and in evenings also.
