Highly disappointed! My partner and I went there for my birthday since I knew it was a vegetarian restaurant. The service was good but the food was both disappointing and expensive for what you got. He ordered a cheese florentine pizza

When I hear people talking about vegetarian restaurants I often hear meat eaters complain that there's nothing for them to eat on the menu and then talk about twigs or rabbit food. Well, as a steak loving, pulled pork eating, fried chicken adoring meat eater here, I want to tell you meat eater that you will NOT be missing out on a thing when you go to Cafe Flora. The food here is hearty and unique. Get the French Dip sandwich, the Oaxaca Tacos or the Portobello Wellington. Whatever you do, don't skip the fried avocado or the yam fries. They also have great cocktails! Go for brunch as everything, and I mean everything on the brunch menu is delicious: French Toast Foster, the Cinnamon Rolls, Spicy Black Eye Pea Fritters and all the scrambles. After your meal, you will be full and never even realized there wasn't bacon on the plate.

I have been going to Cafe Flora from the very beginning and have always seen it as a "rare treat" - that is until about the last year or two. I can attest to a reviewers comment about the Oaxaca tacos. This is one of their signature entrees along with the Portobello Wellington. With the Oaxaca tacos, instead of serving it with the "pico de gallo", they are now serving it was some cheap tasting salsa. I thought it was really disgusting and really cheapened the dish. My wife routinely gets the Portobello Wellington, and even this signature dish is not as good as it used to be - often doughy and just not good. Same thing with their Hoppin' John Fritters which I often get during their weekend brunch. The collards are not as tasty as they used to be - in fact they are kinda yucky if I have to be honest. Another signature dish gone bad.

Here is my feeling. You don't mess with your signature dishes! They are signature dishes for a reason and people grow to expect them to be a certain way. Very disappointing.

Secondly, the food seems to be worse on the weekends and especially Sunday night. That's when we've had the worst food.

My last complaint is about the noise. They remodeled a couple years ago and removed all of the carpeting in the main room. That means that there is nothing to dampen the sound. During weekend brunch it is extremely noisy - the garden room is quieter so aim for that if you can.

Like so many longterm restaurants that suffer through changes in chefs, cuisine and turnover, I fear that Cafe Flora's best days are behind her.

I've been to Cafe Flora twice. Once for brunch and once for dinner. Fresh eggs are always great, and the menu inspired me to take home their cook book.

I returned home to SF, and tried out many of their recipes.

Upon returning to Seattle, I decided to order one of their signature dishes. The Oaxaca Tacos. I think I did a better job making them at home. That's a problem.

Still, the food is great. It's not overly rich and tastes very home-made. The dishes are always creative although sometimes strange, but most importantly they try new things and mix a lot of different styles together, which keeps things interesting. The environment and staff are cool, not uptight. It's the type of place I could see myself frequenting quite regularly.

Okay yes the yam fries are quite good. I also really liked the vegan version (how hard is that?) of the black bean burger, the bun was nice. Though it is no special feat to make vegan mayonnaise, or buy veganaise, I do appreciate the alternative offerings of the sauces. To be honest, I don't fully go there to pay ten dollars for a mashed bean burger and vegan mayonnaise. I go there because the atmosphere is quite fantastic, there are plants and lots of sunlight, and I leave there feeling better than when I came. Each time I have been, the service was outstanding, friendly, and fairly efficient.

Firstly, I've been a vegetarian all my life and I know how good it can taste. After listening to people rave about this place and looking at such high ratings, I took my wife out to this place for her birthday for lunch. The celebrated Yam fries were decent and the fried avocado was so bland. The pizza was at best just acceptable and the noodles were horrible. The server recommended dessert was just a pie crust in strawberry/raspberry jam. I must compliment them on their friendliness and service though - that was top-notch.

We ended up spending $60 on very average food. To set things even I took her to another place in the evening, where the same $60 on dinner gave us amazing food. I feel that this place is over-rated.

You must try the sweet potatoe fries!! Love Cafe Flora's take on "meat" dishes like French Dip and Biscuits and Gravy. My husband is a meat eater and this is one of his favorite restaurants!

I love having breakfast here! The big scrambler dish with the side of potatoes or cheesy grits! Or, brioche lemon curd french toast. Or, pancakes with luscious berry compote. Great espresso drinks and flavorful teas. The best place to sit is in the garden room with the fountain!

My daughter and I recently ate at Cafe Flora, she's a vegetarian and I am not so we looked for something to please us both. Well, this is it. The portobello mushroom French dip was worth fighting over, better than any beef version I have ever had. The pate platter was a delicious appetizer and we enjoyed the unusual rosemary lemonade. Desserts were fine, too. Attentive, friendly service. Dine in the atrium if you can.

I really liked this restaurant. I've enjoyed the food each time I visited, and I appreciate how creative the chefs are, given this is a vegetarian restaurant. I am a vegetarian, and it's great to have more protein options. Nice atmosphere.

I have been to Cafe Flora three times, twice with my husband, and once with a large group. All three times were spectacular! The yam fries appetizer is amazing. I think it's the chipotle aioli that makes it great. I ordered the sage polenta twice and it was outstanding. The sauces they make from scratch are perfect. My husband had the tacos which were really rolled up crispy tortillas. He thought they were great. I love their ever-changing seasonal menus. Their wine list is good too. Now the desserts. MMMM! We had the cheesecake with a port wine reduction sauce. To. Die. For. I have dreams about this cheesecake.
And on top of all that, the service is top notch! When we came in with the large party, they let us make a reservation even though our party was one less than the minimum requirement (they only take reservations for parties of 8 or more), and then they held the nicest table in the house for us despite multiple requests for the table from other patrons. The server never got frustrated with us even though two members of our party didn't speak much English and we all stayed until half an hour after closing time.
I very highly recommend Cafe Flora to everyone. Veggies and non-veggies alike will love it!

We went for easter breakfast and the service was bad. The place wasn't full and the waittress must have been mentally somewhere else. I ordered the hash and egg breakfast and the hash came quite bland and severely undercooked. I won't be going back. Sad too, since I have heard great things about them. I ended up going hom and eating a banana.

Great food!! Organic, healthy, vegetarian, and very tasty. My family members who eat meat enjoy this place as much as myself, a vegetarian. Service is usually good, but the food can be slow. Try the meatless "french dip", made with mushroom.

Wow - the service was so awful, that we ended up complaining to the manager. We had been seated more than 15 minutes before our waiter even came to the table. When we had arrived, the restaurant was only 25% full. We ordered, waited, waited, and finally got our soup and yam fries. 30 minutes later, we asked our waiter about our meals. (Meanwhile other tables had been filled around us, our waiter had taken their orders, and they were eating!) The waiter checked, then said it would be another 10 minutes, as he had held our order so we could enjoy our soup (for 30 minutes?). 15 minutes later, I asked for the manager, stating that by now we had been there for an hour, the tables near us had come in after us, completed their meals and were in the process of leaving, while we were still waiting for our food. In all of this time, our waiter had come to our table only 2 times - once to take our order, and once to deliver our soup. We had empty water glasses (kindly refilled by the hostess after we flagged her down). Even after we asked him about our meal, he never came back to the table.

The manager asked how she could solve the problem. We said that if our food was ready right now, we would take it, but that if it was not ready, we would be leaving. She said she would check. 10 minutes later - yes, 10 more minutes later, she came out with food. At that point, we asked for it to be boxed to take home.

We were only charged for our soup and fries, not for our entrees. I have never experienced such horrible service anywhere. To top it off, the food was not very good.

I've only been to Cafe Flora once, but I would love to go back for more. Not a huge menu though brunch items looked tantilizing and didnt have anything to drink but food and service were very good. The Oaxaca tacos do have flavor despite being practically just potatoes and they won me over despite my skepticism, as did the curry burger which was excellent. wish they had more options, but even as a nonvegetarian I would still love to go back to cafe flora, though a tad expensive, more often.

The highest praise I can give is that the food is good enough for a memorable meal even for meat-eaters. Cafe Flora is either a vegan restaurant or a vegetarian one with several vegan dishes, I'm not sure, but it's in a pretty setting with very good food. The entrees are especially good and well worth sharing.

Cafe Flora is a beautiful restaurant located in the Madison Park area that serves local vegetarian cuisine. I have only been for breakfast/brunch, so I can't speak for dinner, but I think the food is great.

The fruit is always fresh and the brunch entrees are invariably inventive and delicious. The grits are fantastic. Almost everything on their menu is organic and local, and their tap water is filtered, which gets a big thumbs up from me. I love their fresh-squeezed OJ.

I have to admit that I have been slightly disappointed with the food the last few times I have been to Cafe Flora. We did not receive complimentary orange juice shots and my brunch partner noted that the food looked quite a bit better than it tasted. I, too, noticed that the breakfast breads were on the dry side.

I am so pleased to find such an elegant and high quality vegetarian restaurant in Seattle. Soups there are always creative and delicous, and I am also endlessly impressed with the variety of entrees. Go for brunch, lunch, or dinner and you will not be disappointed. Vegans are very happy here as well.

Service - Great; Ambience - Great; Food - Not So Great - While the food was very creative, the combinations did not work well together. The "Curryburger" was dry and unmemorable. It did not live up to is $9.95 price. The noodle salad was very good. My friend's entree was far too complex.

Had dinner here last night and left uninspired. My portabella wellington was soggy and flat and not worth the price. I go out to have something I can't make better at home. And, the place was noisy for its capacity--both the dining room and atrium. If you've been to Greens in SF, you'll be disappionted here.

Fantastic energy as evidenced by bold and bright-colored art on the walls and a lush atrium seating area that is particularly refreshing and inviting in the summer. A good sell for your non-veggie friends to convince them that not all vegetarian cuisine is dirt and grass or pasta. Brunch is great, as is dinner. My only beef (no pun intended) with the place is that they seem relatively skimpy when it comes to introducing new items. But that is balanced out by the Flora classics like their brunch beignets, caesar salad with toasted capers, and yummy French Dip sandwich.

PROS: Fabulous food, great date place
CONS: relatively static menu going on several years now

I've taken a handful of friends here and none knew it was a vegetarian restaurant upon arrival. All were apprehensive when ordering, but after the first bite I've made them all converts.

I highly recommend giving it a shot if you want to try something new.

The first time I went to Cafe Flora was 4 years ago before I was a vegetarian, and LOVED IT!. Just went there again for brunch today, and I must say that we consistently get great service each time. My husband and I love the great food options, and the true flavors of the food. No bland food can be found here. The best thing about Cafe Flora, in my opinion, is the Snappy Sauce. It's made from Chipotle, but it's not spicey, just really flavorful. Try the Hoppin' Fritters or the Quesadilla. Those are our two favorites. I've also had the BBQ sandwich which was really good, but I got a little tired of the flavor after awhile. It's the only brunch place I've found where they automatically give you a little shot glass of fresh squeezed orange juice to whet your appetite before your meal. You'll love it!

Pros: vegetarian selections, healthy and organics, knowledgeable staff

Cons: parking

Since we had a group of people, we were charged an 18% gratuity for service that we did not get. Prices are much too high for what you get. The quality of the food does not match the rave notices. Those that chose to share a pizza were charged an extra sharing fee.

Really enjoyed the soup, salad, and entree--though the mased potatoes were a bit bland. But the vegan chocolate tart was out of this world. Service was quite good as well. Highly recommend!

This is a great vegetarian resturaunt offering both vegan and vegetarian items. I personally like the vegan version of the french dip, and always order an extra one to go. There are two different places you can choose to sit. One of them is in a warm carpeted inside area, and the other is in a garden atrium that is a little more airy and summery. Service and food is really good. This resturaunt does some events to raise money for various causes. Good resturaunt, good service, good food, and good people.

Pros: fun atmosphere, reasonable parking, menu mainstays

The coconut/almond crusted french toast is the best around by far. It's been a while since I've had brunch at Cafe Flora, it may not even be on the menu any more. They soak their thick bread in coconut milk and then dip it in coconut and almonds. You pretty much don't need to eat for the rest of the day! Ask for a seat in the atrium, the plants and sun are a great atmosphere for a quaint brunch.

This delightful, upscale restaurant has a loyal following of non-vegetarians who never ask "Where's the beef?" when perusing the innovative menu with many vegan preparations. A glass-enclosed atrium---complete with a greenhouse-style patio…
