As a book worm, I find it a hobby to visit the book store whenever there's a new release from my favorite authors. This store has them all, and I'm glad they do!

Magus Bookstore is definitely the place to go if you are looking for that rare book or out-of-print book. They have tons of used books in stock in every category. This is where I go now that Shories closed its doors forever. The staff is great too, they know whats in their inventory.

I can't say enough good things about this bookstore--I just get a good feeling whenever I walk in here. It's cozy with books stacked everywhere: on steps, counters, the floor. There are little nooks and crannies to explore. It's what a bookstore should be. There's no way that the selection can be as extensive as the corporate mega-stores, but what they have is just fine for people who love browsing for books. I wish there were more of these independent bookstores left.
I save about $50 on a $100 order every time I go there.

PROS: huge, better than any chain store, cozy
CONS:

This is the store to keep in mind when you are looking for that hard to find book. Located in the University District, the store's tall shelves find themselves the home of many discarded academic titles. Plan a few hours here, and take your time to peruse the wonderful selection.

This bookstore has a wide selection of several topics. Located near the University, it ends up with lots of great nonfiction; I especially like to browse the history section. Also has a good fiction selection. A really fun store to visit.

Located in the University District near the University of Washington campus, this bookstore has a great selection of hard-to-find academic titles and just about everything else.
The store is compact but very well-stocked for their size.
The staff is very helpful and friendly.
This is one of my very favorite used bookstores that I've been to anywhere in the world!

PROS: Great selection; helpful & friendly staff
CONS: none!

Magus Books is a used bookstore in the U-Dist.,filled with tall shelves and ample volumes of hard-to-find books. Because it serves a good deal of university students, there are many dictionaries and philosophy texts. Also, Magus buys books, so if you're a starving student in need of some dough, you can sell back your texts to Magus and make some change.

At last, a book store where I can't reach the highest shelf (and I'm over 6 feet tall). The is crammed with towering shelves of musty used books on every subject imaginable, full of near priceless rarities and yesterdays pulp alike, and everywhere not occupied by shelves is consumed with stacks upon stacks of more Books!

The most comprehensive stock of used books (easily twice the variety of any other U-District used bookseller) and with a staff that knows its stock (something uncommon in Seattle used book stores.) Since the tragic loss of Shories, this is where I now turn to get my books if they aren't at the U. Bookstore.

If I were to invent the quintessential used bookstore in my mind, it would differ little from the quirky and classic Magus.
