One of my biggest concerns when I moved to Port Townsend was finding a new Vet for my dog, Maxie. Thank goodness I called the Visitor's Center, and was told about Dr. Virginia Johnson. Dr. Johnson and her staff are nothing short of amazing. Maxie and I were clients for 8 years until Maxie's passing January of this year; she was 21 years + 9 mos old. A dog doesn't live that long without superior care, which Dr. Johnson provided. If something was "off" with Maxie, Dr. Johnson always found the answer. And the staff...they were wonderful, too. It may seem odd to talk about Maxie's passing in this review but I'm compelled to do so. Because of multiple seizures/strokes, one after the other, Maxie experienced severe brain damage, and it was clear to me I had to let her go. When I took her to Dr. Johnson, she helped Maxie on her way gently, painlessly, and with the same devotion to her well-being as was given since day one. The Vet Techs, all of whom knew Maxie well, were there for us, too; they came in to see Maxie, hold her, say their goodbye's, and comfort me as well. I couldn't have asked for a more loving environment on that most difficult day. I realize this review is very personal but that is exactly how it is at HVC. We were seen as unique and special, with our individual needs always met beautifully. If/When I'm ready to adopt another dog, there is no question where I'll go for my pup's veterinary care. I will always be grateful to Dr. Johnson and can recommend her services without reservation

Hadlock Vet Clinic has been caring for my four dogs for almost 3 years now. Not only have they done routine care, but also performed a c-section on my pregnanant 5LB chihuahua. I found the cost to be more than fair and the staff was amazingly kind and empethetic to my worries and fears. After the surgury the clinic called every few days to check up on momma dog and pups.
I have also had one of my dogs neutered and all went well, and again I found the price to be very reasonable. I never have a problem getting an appointment and can usually schedule within a week or less. When I showed up unschedule with a very sick puppy I was taken right back to a room no questions asked without an appointment and my bill was no more than it would have been if I had scheduled an appointment. The vets that work at this clinic are amazing, kind people. Anyone who thinks they are greedy or unreasonable should "shop around" before making such sweeping statements. The Emergency clinic in Poulsbo charges and initial $100 "emergency" fee on top of the visit. The staff is friendly but not nearly as kind hearted as those at Hadlock Vet Clinic. I am totally satisified with the care and cost of this clinic. The one and only thing I would change if given the chance is a more personable front desk staff, and honestly that doesn't affect my pets or my bank account so it's a minor concern.

I have had the pleasure to work with both Vets from Hadlock Vet Clinic. You couldn't pick any better. I have now moved a way, and I wish they had someone that I could trust with my animals like Dr Johnson and Murphy. Yes they may be a little more expensive, BUT you get what you pay for...Where I am now, the prices are much higher for less care.I never had to worry about my animals when I lived up there, Here they almost killed my cat. They kept him under anes. for 3 hours.and still charged $ 850.00. He died on the table and they revived him. Having been a Vet tech for 24 years I've seen a lot and know when Doctors aren't very good. I would trust Drs J and M with anything and I did for many years. You guy's up there are lucky to have such excellent and caring Doctors as them. They are the best....

I use to live in PA and then later in PT. During that time, I had a Whippet that I adored. He kept breaking his leg and nobody could tell me why. Dr. Ginny, was the first Vet that looked for the underlining cause. Turns out it was cancer! Thank God she looked and was good enough to find it. She gave me an extra three years with my boy (and he stopped breaking his leg because the cancer was under control). Dr. Ginny has a wonderful bedside manner...she make me feel calm and in good hands. I have since moved to Seattle and I eventually lost my whippet; but I now have a little poodle and I still make the drive to Dr. Ginny....I just do not trust anyone else. I have worked with her for years, she has answered my after-hours calls, she has talked me through crying fits, and she has been a dam good vet. When she cannot fix it, she knows all the top specialists and they respect her. I have had dogs all my life...I have lived all over the country...I have been to probably 50 vets over my 45 years and I really believe she is the best vet I have ever gone to.

We have had good and bad experiences. Unfortunately the bad almost killed our pup. The latest misdiagnosis simply cost money. Note that the bad experiences were only when Dr. Ginny was not available.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! My dog had a small growth inside her eyelid. I was told she had to have surgery ASAP and that the surgery must be performed under general anesthetic. Also that the condition could be vision threatening so timeliness is imperative. The fee would be extimated at $1500. I was also told by the vet that my dog has cataracts in both eyes.

I decided to get a second opinion from another veterinary eye surgeon because communication to schedule the surgery with Hadlock vet was poor and time was marching along.

I was told by the 2nd vet that the eyelid growth was not vision threatening, she would have it removed under local anesthetic, the cost would be $465 and that she had no cataracts.

I had the surgery performed by the 2nd vet 10 days ago. My dog's eyes are perfect! So glad I went for another opinion!

I inquired today (3.23.10) about the price of 1 unit (1,000 ml) of IV fluids (Sodium Chloride and Lactacted Ringers) for my cat with renal disease for his sub-cutaneous fluid therapy, which he undergoes 2 times daily of 100 ml. each. I was told it would cost $45.00 !!!! for one bag of 1,000 ml. I have been administering this therapy for my 17 year old cat for over 1 year. Since I have moved 3 times in that time period, I have had to re-establish myself with 3 different vets. Each one has averaged only $7.50 per bag, with extra fees for IV unit and enough needles for each bag, averaging about $15.00/ per bag. This place quoted me $45.00 for 1 bag of fluids!!!! What an egrigious rip-off! I have paid that much for a case of fluids alone (12 bags/case with a case discount)!! I will never bring my 3 cats here as I can imagine what they charge for office visits, shots, teeth cleaning etc.

Our shih-tzu had a cyst in the middle of his eye requiring emergency surgery. Dr. Murphy not only saved his eye but his sight as well. Dr. Johnson is also an excellent veterinarian. She has treated both our shih-tzu and dachshund for other issues. We have since moved from the Peninsula but still make monthly trips over for our dogs to see them. You can't get better care for your pet. Whether you think they are expensive or not is irrelevant when it comes to the quality care you will get for your beloved pet. These two Veterinarians are well worth it. Please also support their "Angel Fund" as they help animals in the area that wouldn't get help otherwise.

When we moved to this area, we asked a friend who she took her animals to. She referred us to Hadlock Vetinary clinic. It was a wise choice. For two years now, the wonderful vets and staff there have seen our dogs through assorted problems, including surgery. They are caring and professional. I have found the fees to be in range with other vets I've used, but the care my dogs get there is unsurpassed.

Hadlock Vet has been my pets' vet for several years and I can't say enough about the knowledgeable, considerate vet and staff. This clinic also provides treatment to our local animal shelter's cats and dogs at greatly reduced rates, and works with a number of local non-profit animal welfare groups, giving them discounted rates, especially for spay/neuter. Hadlock Veterinary Clinic is definitely an asset to our community!

My neighbor recommended these folks. The are the only ones I have found up here or in Kitsap that I trust to give an accurate diagnosis and effective treatments. They have corrected problems caused by the "cures" of others.
Inexpensive? No, but I have been charged so much more by vets who did so much less.

Our cat suddenly very ill. This vet proved to be the only one in the area (we went to 3) who took the time to recommend a treatment for her. Thanks to them, our cat lived 2 more years.
We have gone back since with other animals and always gotten courteous and caring treatment. They are not bargain basement prices, but no more expensive than other vets in the area

Our experience with this clinic was at the utmost positive experience....Our fifteen year old dog "Max" was literally clinging to life. The Dr. here was excellent and very caring. We appreciate everything she did for Max and was great at giving us options for him. We found the clinic to be quite reasonable and was happy with their continued care, even after Max passed away.....they still called. You don't get that from anyone anymore. We appreciate everything they did for us and for Max.

In a rural environment there are sometimes few choices. This vet service is a poor one. Not known for the usual community service. This Vet requires cash and a lot of it!

PROS: None
CONS: Cost. Greed
