Ratings_icons Would NEVER recommend this place!!!!

My daughter has been here for only one year and has asked throughout the year if she could quit, we said no because we had paid at the beginning of the year $60 for her costume and it was not refundable. When it was time for her end of the year pictures my husband asked the (rude) receptionist if he should buy his tickets that day and was informed he could buy them at the door the day of the recital. 2 days before the recital we were told that the tickets had been sold out, leaving a large group of parents and other family members (who were told the same thing) without tickets. I tried calling and when my call was finally returned by the receptionist she told me I would have to wait outside to see if a spot opened up or MAYBE I could wait backstage and leave after my daughter had performed. I asked if they considered doing another show earlier in the day for the ones who were missing out and she said, it didn't work that way and it was only small group of parents and it didn't matter. She continued to say that she had told everyone seating was limited and to buy in advance. All the parents I have heard from have said they were told to buy at the door. She will not refund the costume money, even though my daughter doesn't want to perform if i can not be there to watch. What 5 year old would? The lady then proceeded to say, "IF I had a 3 year old daughter I would have made sure I got MY ticket the day it went on sale!" and then proceeded to slam the phone down and hang up on me. She is denying that she told anyone to buy at the door and insists that she told ALL the parents to buy them early which is not true. If this place has been around for so long, shouldn't they have a better idea of how many people normally show up? Shouldn't they at least reserve 2 tickets per child for the parents? They could have at least sent something home saying seating was limited. This isn't the first problem we have had with this studio and most of our problems have been because of the secretary. This was not the first time I was hung up on. I have also heard many complaints about this place from other parents. Maybe they just need a new secretary? That could solve a lot of problems!

Ratings_icons Well done Evergreen!

Jessica D.

I used to be a branch instructor for Evergreen. I put in many years with them not only as a teacher but as a student. They have given me the fine education I needed to start my own school. Over the years we have had many excellent teachers with a variety of technique and style. This helps any dancer to become more well rounded. Yes, the building is old and I agree with the other review that said if you would like to donate or come up with the funds to help with renovation costs, please do so! I don't know if you realize how much building and renovation costs! Get over the apperance and look at the heart and soul of this school. It is full of children and adults who love to dance and share that with others! Evergreen is a wonderful dance school and I am so grateful for all of the years I spent with them. So, Evergreen keep up the fantastic work!!!

Ratings_icons Love ballet? Go to Evergreen.

First of all, I have to completely disagree with a statement made earlier. Evergreen has a VARIETY of teachers for young children. We have certain ones who are strict and others who are not as strict because some parents just want their children to have "fun" in dance class. And we have a new office manager. He's not rude at all. Our ballet program and ballet teachers are first-class and include highly and professionally-trained individuals. I am a student here and ballet is my passion, I would not dream of dancing anywhere else in town. Evergreen is heavily focused on ballet and we put on a full-length "story" production every Spring and a Nutcracker every other year. Evergreen is the ONLY studio in town that does this. They offer many other forms of dance, but if you are more passionate about jazz, acro, hip-hop, etc...you may not necessarily enjoy it as much as others who especially love ballet. But don't worry, we are NOT snobs to people who prefer other forms of dance. =) Evergreen is a fun, family-friendly environment with affordable monthly rates for classes. I guarantee you will not find nicer people or better trained dancers at any other studio in town.

As for our studio "look"...the building is like 70 years old...would you like to lend us the load of money and labor it would take to fix every little nitpicky thing?

Ratings_icons Evergreen vs. High Step? Evergreen loses.

Anonymous

I used to take my daughter to Evergreen. She went there for 3 years. I put up with their rude receptionist, teenagers for teachers who did nothing but play with the kids, but I switched studios when they lost their excellent tap teacher and did not inform us prior to registering for classes. This felt dishonest and we had enough. My daughter has been at High Step Dance Academy for many years and loves it. Every year at Evergreen she would ask to quit in the Spring. She never asks to quit anymore. She asks to take more classes. The quality of instructors at High Step is outstanding, with opportunities that were not available at Evergreen. I highly recommend High Step Dance Academy.

Ratings_icons Evergreen ROCKS!

Ok, It SO does not smell like urin in any part of the building. I go up those back stairs all the time. I chose to go to Evergreen over the choice of going to High step. The instructors are so much better, they really know what they're doing and they truly care about the people they teach. They're like a family to me! :) So anyone looking to take dance there, believe me, it's worth it! Sure, the building isn't new, but it's not like they're really in "desperate need" of a makeover for the rooms. I like how they painted them all individually, most by hand too. It's so much more sentimental that way. Anyway, I love that place, so there. LOL. :)

The instructors are great and if you can get past the look of their studio it is an alright place to go. It needs to be updated so desperately and when you enter up the stairs from the back alley it smells of urine so bad!!!!!
