90 mile drive to the Lynnwood office. When Tony finally came out we chatted for a few minutes before he told me that I was "UNMARKETABLE". He had my resume in front of him and could see my experience, skills and talents, yet he wasted 4 hours of my day to insult me. I watched his eyes when he first met me and could tell he was turned off by my age (59). He had no consideration for my vast life experience. He was trying to fit me into a little box and because of his lack of real life experience and street sense could not think past his tiny paradigm. I have had great responsibility over thousands of people, led and managed large organizations, developed and trained countless people, have had tremendous success in selling tough concepts and ideas. His loss. By the way I have 3 other agencies that have referred my to other employers with some exciting possibilities.

So, after a horrible experience at the Tacoma Business Careers (read my review there too) I decided to hope that the Renton office would not be the same. Laurel Rick called me, informed me that she had worked for the company for countless years and had a very high placement rate. I was impressingly hopeful that this office would be different than the Tacoma office. Boy was I wrong!!! I spent an hour in traffic driving north for the interview and testing that Ms. Rick promised was protocol since Business Careers has not moved into the era of technology and doesn't keep anything on computer, including job announcements or applicants. I walk into an office that has 5 people waiting in the waiting room. The receptionist asks me to fill out a form (I've done this once already), and then wait. 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment Ms. Rick walks over to me and introduces herself. Now, I wouldn't normally be upset about the late appointment, but from my vantage point in the waiting area, I could see Ms. Rick (though I didn't know it was her at the time) sitting at her desk doing nothing for the 15 minute waiting period besides shifting papers from one side of her desk to the other.

My interview with Ms. Rick lasted exactly 10 minutes. She didn't seem interested in talking to me, placing me or anything else. She stood up before I even knew the interview was over and ushered me out of the office like I had the plague or something. No tests, no nothing, and not surprising that I haven't heard from her since then.

Do these people have nothing better to do than make job searchers feel more worthless???

Stay away from Business Careers!

They charge high fees whether this fee is paid by you or by the person who hires you. Your first year salary might not be as high since they had to pay such a large placement fee. They can also be incredibly frustrating if you are looking for something in particular. They seem to be more focused on finding you ANY job than in finding you the job you want. So, expect to be called on a lot of stuff you arent interested in.

You would be better off getting advice at your local WorkSource.

I have nothing good to say about this place, except for that my friend found her job through this particular location. So of course I was hopeful going into it, but just really annoyed coming out. The woman who helped me was so eager to get me a job instead of finding the right fit. She set me up on interviews with companies I could have been hired for, that definately would not require a college degree. If you need a job, any job, they will find you one, but if you have something particular in mind, or if you are just looking to change careers I would say, stay far far away. I wouldn't have worked for any of the companies I interviewed with. On top of all this, they do not leave you alone. I would get daily phone calls at around 6:00 in the morning, and in several situations, several a day. I finally had to tell them to leave me alone. I have had several friends who have had similar experiences, and have to say that the one friend I mentioned earlier who did find a job, she had already decided that she had had enough and on a whim, decided to try just one more. So really she just got lucky.
