I just love Alfreds. It's a classy place that has great food, good service, and value. It has a welcoming life of it's own. This is a rare gem in Tacoma, and worth a check out

We have been to Alfred's at least 4 times in the past 2 years. We have received terrible service from the waitress 3 out of the 4 times. The last time we were there we ended up leaving after not even being acknowledged after sitting at our table for 10 minutes. If you are able to get past the poor service the food is not bad. However, the parking is terrible.

Pros: food is acceptable, variety to menu

Cons: terrible parking, terrible service, inexperienced waitresses, atmosphere is a little strange

This is the place to go in downtown Tacoma for breakfast. We went here before a big football game in the Tacoma Dome, and they set up the whole bar area for our group. There were not complaints, the food was served timely, and hot, and the staff was very professional and friendly despite the big crowd of us. The food is great here, and the prices are good.

Great experience! Food fantastic and a great value! Daily special (roast with vegetables) like Mom used to make.
Service great-exceptionally clean including bathrooms. Owner was extremely friendly to us all! We wanted to ask him about the place because we hadn't heard about it and it is so close to the tacoma Dome.
Understand it is slammed from morning through 2 pm(they serve breaksfasts until 2 on weekends) and it can take time-was forewarned by owner-if you want drive in speed, go to a drive in. They don't pre-scramble eggs and try to hold them like other places he explained. Several great reviews on the walls where we were sitting including one in an article in the Alaska Airlines Magazine. i asked the owner and he said they don't advertise in it, but some of their Directors drive from Sea-Tac to eat there!
Will be back. Can see why Tacoma Trib. gave it 4 stars, would have been 5 but the old Spaghetti receipe (which he told me was changed) was a tad salty the ownertold us laughlingly!
Will be back soon! We are from Redmonds and stumbled on the place!

For all of you considering going to Alfreds Cafe in Tacoma, do yourself a favor and stop by McDonalds instead. On a recent experience was disgusted by the service and the quality of the "food". I was shocked by the rudeness of the owner and his complete disregard for any tact whatsoever when asked a question of recommendation. The other patrons in the place also agreed with me and agreed it was a jaw dropping experience. I believe one of them actually got up and left. I can honestly state I will never patronize the place again due to my recent experience.

Cool set up in the diner with very visually appealing and fun dishes. Nice to sit in the bar waiting for pizza take-out. Alfred's friendly staff and patrons make it worth trying out!

This is a real popular place with the locals. Close to the Tacoma Dome and shares the parking lot with Bullseye Shooting Range and Gun Shop. Friendly staff and good food at a reasonable price.

We celebrated my friends 25th birthday. Never been to Tacoma, this place ranked higher than anywhere in Seattle. The service was amazing, more than willing to help in the festivities, putting up with loud high pitched drunken women, and took the extra steps to make this birthday one for the books! The atmosphere was Cheers, everyone in the bar joining the party. Food was amazing - we are going back just for the pizza and chicken wings. When we were calling bars out of the phone book asking if we could bring balloons and have a section reserved, Alfreds was the only one willing to accomodate our requests and then some! The bartender was one of the greatest. Free parking, bathrooms spotless, the drinks were stiff, cheap and yummy! Perfect place to celebrate or just go hang out and grab a beer and pizza.

We can see why the Tacoma Trib. gave it one of their few 4 stars! Kicked back fun place. Kind of a "Cheers" place. Free GREAT potato chipd during "Happy hour" that are made fresh!
Drinks are GREAT booze at give away prices.
WE LOVE IT! When the "stylish" are through posing at the other places, they all end up here for reality!
