See my detailed review on Yelp - briefly, we are EXTREMELY happy with the coop after having switched from another daycare three months ago. The teachers are fantastic, the learning environment is wonderful (both academically - if you can use that word at age 2 - as well as socially), and the parent involvement is a big plus. I highly recommend that you check it out if you are looking for a daycare/preschool in the north Seattle area.

If you want to find a daycare that is a warm loving community - like a 2nd home - then the Cooperative Childcare Center is a place to check out. This is a parent-owned cooperative that was started in the 1970s. It run coopertively by parents, dedicated full-time teachers and a great director. It has 40-50 families at any one time divided into 4 classes (1-2yr, 2-3yr, 3-4yr, 4-5yr). The "Coop" really lives up to the motto "It takes a village to raise a child". This is a place for families who want to be part of a community and put time into it. Each family works 2-3 hrs a week + 4 workparties a year. So all families are involved. My 2 kids both went to the Coop for 5 years each, and they loved it. Like most kids at the Coop, they didn't want to leave at the end of the day and the teachers and other kids were like extended family. The Coop has a great website (www.coopchild.org) with their philosophy and mission statement and lots of other info. Convenient location right in the U District too.

Having been a teacher for over a decade now, and having worked with the Coop for over 3 years...I can truely and honestly say that it is one of the best quality child care centers around. They specialize in positive discipline, emergent curriculum, learning through play and basically just allowing the kids to be kids! Just take a moment to walk through on a tour and you will see for yourself how they let the kids, just be kids!
