Absolutely Fabulous!!
I always wait months to get my haircut, and it's always been a problem. Since I started going to Jake at Vain, that issue is all cleared up. He is amazing at giving me a haircut/style that will last for a long period of time.
I just give him a general idea of what I want, and he comes up with an interesting way to get there. It's entirely exceptional and long lasting. In addition, the conversation is excellent, and he is extremely knowledgeable on a number of issues.
The best haircut I've ever gotten, and I continually go back (plus the free touch up trims are an immense bonus!!)
PROS: Touch up trims, well done and layered haircuts/styles, friendly atmosphere, interesting staff.
CONS: Nope.

why I love Vain
I hate getting my haircut. I avoid it at all costs. Seriously, i will go months without getting it cut. at least, that was before i found vain.
dont be indimidated by the "hipness" of vain, its for anyone and everyone.
all of the stylists are amazingly nice and they all are really good at understanding exactly what you want (my favorite was kathleen).
getting appointments is really easy.
they are expensive but totally worth it, and you get a free maintenance trim in 3 weeks.
awesomeness

If you're in Seattle, Visit Vain
They have an art gallery. They have a little boutiqe. They have rockstar hairstylists who have been cutting hair and coloring it in vivid 80s shocks of color since before the 80s. They can cut you a mohawk and die it hot pink or perm your grandma's hair. The prices are cheap 20-40 dollars for a moderate cut. This is the true styling experience, not the Supercuts 5 dollar trim. These stylist are artists.

Curly haired folks, take note!
If you have curly hair (like I do), you know how hard it is to find a stylist who won't butcher your cut and make you look like some sort of french poodle gone bad. Thankfully, after some reccomendations from other curly-haired folk, I found Liza at VAIN. Liza is a dream! She's a pro with curly hair, absolutely fabulous, and she gave me the best haircut I've had since middle school. I walked out of VAIN feeling fresh and fabulous! Besides Liza, the other stylists at VAIN are also great - my friend went in to get a cut at the same time I did, and ended up with kickin' rockstar hair. The prices may be a little steep, but it's definitely worth it!
PROS: Curly hair experienced
CONS: Slightly expensive, but worth it

Vanity will get you everywhere
Vain is an eclectic, fun, and unpretentious full service salon in the heart of Belltown. They have a myriad of stylists to suit your every hair needs and desires. They have people who specialize in short hair, dreds, and outrageous hair color. I have had some of the best cut and color of my life done at Vain. It's a great atmosphere and they have great hours. They are open late and are also open 7 days a week! Where I am from in NY this is unheard of. There is also a small shop in the front of the salon with accessories hand-picked by the owner. And to top it all off, Vain throws great parties! You are sure to walk out of Vain with a great new do and new you (if that is what you are looking for)!
PROS: Lots of stylists with varied talents.
CONS: A bit expensive.

Original Cuts
If you hate boring haircuts and boring dye jobs, Vain is the place for you. Everytime I've been their, each with a different stylist, I have been pleased with the results. They are more than willing to work with any idea you can conjour up. Plus they do hard to find services such as braid extensions and dread maintenance.

Vain is great!
This is a great place to get your hair done. Especially if you are looking for a laid back atmosphere with unpretentious people. It is very artist-friendly and resembles an art loft more than a hair salon. They do razor cuts, layering, outrageous color, foils, dreadlocks, hair extensions, normal color, rockstar hair, styling, sell styling products, hair cuts, sell hair products, clothes, and makeup. I went in to get my hair done after a beauty school screwed it up and made me look like an orangatang. They fixed it and it came out beautiful red the way I like it. They use double pigment dye so it has staying power for a red. It cost me about $112. for a haircut, styling product, and color. Would definitely go back.
PROS: Laid back environment
good location - Belltown
more than one stylist
Quick
CONS: A little pricey

You'll never beat the feeling...
Of walking out of the Vain Salon with a new hair cut or color. From conservative to contemporary, Vain's highly skilled stylists always seem to get your hair perfect. I remember my very first VAIN haircut, my hair had never bounced that way before, I had never been happier. They're not as pocketbook friendly as most salons but the feeling you get when you leave is worth every penny. You also get a free trim for the next three weeks after your appointment. I can't wait till I need my hair cut again!

For the fashion-conscious, Vain is the place you should go to get your spankin' new do. Vain is located in Belltown, and the staff are supremely well-trained. You can walk in scruffy and walk out a goddess! They also have a small arsenal of fun accessories for sale in the lobby, which are worth a stop-in if you're in the neighborhood.

Great haircut from Melissa
I had to add my review to the list of already stellar reviews. Melissa M did my hair and color today and did a fantastic job. She did EXACTLY what I asked for and went the extra mile to add a really nice style to my hair at the end. She was extremely meticulous and actually came back to parts of my hair after styling when she found it wasn't doing what she thought I wanted. For someone who really pays attention to client's needs, goes the extra mile and does a beautiful job, ask for Melissa.

For the best Extensions, cut , and color in town see Kelly at Vain!!!
I went and saw Kelly at Vain a few weeks ago and I am happy to say I am never going to anyone else. My hair has never looked better. She gave me an fantastic cut and color. On top of that she gave me a few wonderful splashes of pink with extensions. It was so awesome. I can't believe how affordable everything was. No one has ever been able to get my hair exactly how I wanted it until Now. kelly is the best and I am still getting compliments till this day.

Alexis: YOU ROCK MY WORLD!
I just got my first haircut at Vain today, wanted to try it out because of all the great reviews on citysearch. My experience was AMAZING! From the second Alexis called my name to walking out the door, I felt completely welcome and comfortable. I have never gone consistently to one hairstylist, but I think Alexis is the one! She was very accomodating, so sweet, and knowledgeable about what she was doing. Her technique was very precise and she explained what she was doing the whole time. Highly recommended!
Pros: knowledgeable staff, cool vibe, good prices for what you get!
Cons: parking downtown, UGH!

Liza Jo - Supremely talented & sweet as can be
My hair has been a royal pain most of my life because it's wavy/curly, thick, and noncompliant. Liza Jo has a great perspective on curly/wavy hair: she works with and doesn't fight the curl, and clearly enjoys working with the hair and her clients. Her approach inspires confidence and relief in her clients. She offers excellent advice to people with full, curly hair. Most importantly, I love my haircut! She is a master of curly hair.
What a great experience it was seeing Liza Jo. I highly recommend her. Call well in advance - she's extremely popular. Thank you, Liza!
