I have never been treated with such understanding until I met Kelly. She really took the time to understand the haircut and color I wanted and also made it so much better than I could have imagined. I have never had a stylist do that..they usually always acted like the got me but never did..Kelly wasn't afraid to ask me questions before she just went ahead and she made me feel so comfortable..

So Vain and Kelly have made me believe that amazing hair does exist if you find someone that gets it..and Kelly gets it.So do yourself a favor and get your hair done by Kelly..SHE IS AMAZING..KELLY!!!THANK YOU..

The staff lady was so nice when I called to make an appointment. I told her I've never been to Vain before and I'm asian with curly long hair. She immediately recommended me to several hair stylist that would do good on what I want. I decided to go with Alexis to have the hair cut. For sure she was amazing. First, she shampoo my hair with something that smells fantastic and minty, and then gave me a head and neck message. I was totally relax afterward. Then she gave me the great hair cut that I wanted!!!! Like I said I'm asian with with long curly hair and lots of it!! She work on my hair in detail for a long time. Cutting my hair is not easy, having it to look good is even harder. Anyways I love the hair cut and Good Job! I will be back again and recommend this hair salon and Alexis to my friends!!

We recently moved to Seattle and have been trying a number of different hair stylists around town. Both my fiance and I have settled on Vain and more specifically Sam.
First of all, the space they use is really interesting. Sam was telling me last time that it was one of the original Nirvana gig spaces or something and the building obviously has a lot of history.
The front staff is really helpful and they always have good music playing. I would say that they should have a little better selection of non-style magazines for men but that is just a really picky small thing.
We both have been really happy with Sam, she is very easy to talk to and does a great job. In my opinion, stylists are a dime a dozen and Sam really stands out of the norm.
Their prices just went up a little recently but it is still very reasonable.

I went to Kelly to get my black hair colored lighter. Not only did she tell that she didn't know how to go lighter on black hair, but she also has an attitude. She kept leaving and attending to other clients in between while spending very little time on getting my hair done. Overall the service was pathetic and I'll not recommend VAin to anyone.

I went to Kelly for extensions and she was great. I had really short hair and she made it look perfect! The cut she gave me after works well. They have made a new client out of me for sure.

I have been her twice and was never very impressed considering the staff's attitude. Just because they are in an art studio doesn't mean they are all that. I didn't go there for the art, I wanted to get my hair done. I thought it was pretty pathetic that they can't color your hair on the first visit. Who is really going to get their hair cut and then go back to get it colored. I don't know about you guys, but I hardly have time in my life for one hair appointment let along two. My stylist was nice enough, but the staff was gossiping about other stylists and customers, super unprofessional.

I love going to see Sharon at Vain.

I have been to many different salons in Seattle and was terribly disappointed everywhere I went until I returned to Vain. Now, I can't imagine going anywhere else.

Sharon is super cool. I trust her completely (at least when it comes to hair). She has lots of great ideas and comes up with something unique every time I see her.

Sharon does a fantastic job with colouring my hair. It looks good every time and stands out as a professional colouring job. I get lots of comments from visiting Sharon.

I have so much fun going to Vain to see Sharon. I really look forward to it.

My mom even thinks that Sharon does an awesome job with my hair. Mom is always excited to see what Sharon has done lately.

I would highly recommend going to see Sharon at the Vain Hair Salon.

I was so excited about the results of my new haircut on Friday with Katie, I had to tell somebody. Her stylist review said she was great with layers and that's what my hair was in desperate need of. I'd been hesitant to get layers again because my fine yet coarse hair always reacted poorly and I typically ended up regretting it. After going to Katie for a cut seven weeks ago, she gently eased me back into the world of layers. I was hooked and went back a few days ago for more which resulted in oodles of compliments. Thanks Katie!

First off, I found Vain here on City Search and went because of the great reviews, so I thought it only right that I contribute to the praise-pot since I've already benefited from it. I should also tell you that I really kind of hate my hair, its very fine and not thick at all ? hard to manage since it tangles up so easily and I can?t use 99% of products. That being said I came to Valentine after not having had time for a cut for way too long, probably about 8 -9 months?my hair was in desperate need of some help.

He asked me what I wanted to do and I said I didn?t really know, just that I needed it shorter and easier to manage. I didn?t really give him much to work with there and he threw out some ideas and got to work. When he was done it was so much better, and a few days later I found myself very happy with the amount of time I cut out getting ready in the morning. He had a pretty good idea how to make my hair look like it had a little more volume and gave me some tips on how to keep it up long term with minimal work. He also recommended a product that might work better for me, but didn?t try to push it into a sale, which was nice. Overall I am happy with the cut, very happy with the service, and happy with Valentine, I will be back.
Oh ? and the shop is cute and cozy, it is a tiny bit hard to find since the store front is actually a shop, but I kind of like that since it takes away the ?fishbowl? feeling you get with a lot of the downtown salons that have huge windows on the street so everyone walking by can see the Medusa foil sticking out of your head during a color.

I'd had long, wavy, blah hair for a long time. Sharon gave me a fantastic mid-length cut that makes me feel very hip and stylish. And she also recommended the right product and tools (the best flatiron) that makes keeping the style super easy. She also gave me great highlights, and the kind that i don't have to keep up so often (cause i'm lazy!). All my friends have continued to comment in raves about my hairstyle and its been over a year. She's got that cool accent too!

I have had long straight brown hair for a long time and was sick of it. I was however scared about cutting it...I left it up to Megyn I told her a general idea of what I wanted. I have never been happier with a cut or color. She has a lifelong customer. I have gotten so many compliments and find myself checking it out in the mirror a little longer than I would like to admit :). She picked a super flattering cut for me. And the color is rich and amazing.
If you want something new and spicy but still classy she is your girl....and tell her Krystal sent you :)

Guys, if you want to look good for the ladies, Janae is your Gal. She's been cutting my hair for over a year now and my wife tells me every time I come back from one of my haircuts with Janae that it's the best haircut she's ever seen on me.

I live in Woodinville, so it's not exactly easy going to Vain in downtown Seattle to get my haircut, but it is most definitely worth the drive and the gas money. I had a lot of bad haircut experiences in Seattle before I started going to Janae. Now, I know when I go get my haircut, I'm going to come out looking and feeling better.

Vain is reasonably priced, so it's not too much more expensive than a barbershop where you're rolling the dice that they'll leave you looking like a bowl-cut idiot. And just think, you'll have a better shot at a promotion when you look awesome and you're exuding confidence.

Trust in Janae, I'm REALLY glad that I did, and so is my wife!

I love the atmosphere and will not have anyone other than Belinda touch my brows. The one down is just getting a call in to make an appointment. I don't think there's ever been a time that I've called without being put on hold. Perhaps another phone line or more support at the front desk would remedy this?

I went to Vain a few weeks ago for a cut and color, both of which I left extremely impressed with. I told my stylist, Roxy, that I was looking for some dimensional blonde highlights and a haircut with side-swept bangs that wouldn't take me forever to style in the morning. She asked me if I parted my hair on the right or the left, and I said it varied, and she still managed to give me an adorable cut that looked great either way!! Roxy was great at communicating with me and executed the cut and color exactly as I had wanted it, which I was amazed at since I'm not always the best at conveying what I want.
Also, there is a pretty sweet gallery & boutique that are apart of Vain as well! In short, I loved the salon, loved the atmosphere, and I really loved my haircut!

I had to add my review to the list of already stellar reviews. Melissa M did my hair and color today and did a fantastic job. She did EXACTLY what I asked for and went the extra mile to add a really nice style to my hair at the end. She was extremely meticulous and actually came back to parts of my hair after styling when she found it wasn't doing what she thought I wanted. For someone who really pays attention to client's needs, goes the extra mile and does a beautiful job, ask for Melissa.

I went and saw Kelly at Vain a few weeks ago and I am happy to say I am never going to anyone else. My hair has never looked better. She gave me an fantastic cut and color. On top of that she gave me a few wonderful splashes of pink with extensions. It was so awesome. I can't believe how affordable everything was. No one has ever been able to get my hair exactly how I wanted it until Now. kelly is the best and I am still getting compliments till this day.

I just got my first haircut at Vain today, wanted to try it out because of all the great reviews on citysearch. My experience was AMAZING! From the second Alexis called my name to walking out the door, I felt completely welcome and comfortable. I have never gone consistently to one hairstylist, but I think Alexis is the one! She was very accomodating, so sweet, and knowledgeable about what she was doing. Her technique was very precise and she explained what she was doing the whole time. Highly recommended!

My hair has been a royal pain most of my life because it's wavy/curly, thick, and noncompliant. Liza Jo has a great perspective on curly/wavy hair: she works with and doesn't fight the curl, and clearly enjoys working with the hair and her clients. Her approach inspires confidence and relief in her clients. She offers excellent advice to people with full, curly hair. Most importantly, I love my haircut! She is a master of curly hair.

What a great experience it was seeing Liza Jo. I highly recommend her. Call well in advance - she's extremely popular. Thank you, Liza!

I have lived in Seattle for over a year now and have been to numerous salons trying to find that perfect fit. My roommate recommended Vain so I thought I would check it out. I had an appointment with the lovely Scarlett and wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do to my hair, but SOMEHOW she managed to get it exactly right. I went to my birthday dinner with gorgeous hair that everyone loved! Not only was the color and cut amazing, it was inexpensive (I'm used to paying California prices!), BUT wait there is more, I can come back within the next month and get a free trim. Crazy! This places rocks, and Scarlett was great. Thanks Vain, I believe I found my salon in Seattle!

I love VAIN!!! It is such an amazing collaboration of sensational stylists, an ever changing art gallery, unique boutique items and a fabulous makeup artist as well. And it's pet friendly too. I always recommend this place to anyone I meet.

The staff at VAIN are super nice and very electic! Which I prefer. I am particualrly partial to having Kelly do my hair. She is amazing and incredibly talented!!! If you have a crazy mop going on and have no idea how to fix it...she is the one! I've gone in having no idea of what I wanted, gave her full control and have always had amazing results. I have also seen Christine, the make-up artist, and this girl knows her stuff.

Pros: Everything else!

Cons: You have to book far in advance. Also, if you can't find parking on the street, it cost's $10 to park in the lot next to the salon.

I recently became a Vain patron and let me tell you I dont see myself getting my hair cut anywhere else anytime soon. The people at Vain are always welcoming, full of enegry and stylish advice. One new staff member in particular you should really check out is Valentine. He is a very talented new newcomer to the Vain ensemble with ability to fix you up with a clean short cut or some thing a little edgier with style and imagination. For $28 dollars a cut its a steal, so hurry and get yourself an appointment with him soon before his calender fills up!

I just moved here and dreaded the thought of having to go through stylist after stylist trying to find someone who knew what to do with my hair. Imagine my relief at getting the right stylist right off the bat! Bash has years of experience and the term "precision cut" could have been invented to describe how he cuts hair. I swear at one point I could feel him cutting individual hairs. He really took the time to listen and then zoned-in to give me a phenomenal cut. The best b ang for the buck I've ever experienced in a salon, especially since you get free touch-ups anytime within the first month. Props, too, to the receptionist, who seemed to know each stylist's specialty and was able to hook me up with the right stylist for me.

Simply put. Vain is Awesome!
And even more awesome is my Hair Dresser, Roxana.
She is both beautiful and talented.
When I first visited Vain, I wasn't really sure that I was in the right place.
But, when I met Roxana, she was very courteous and friendly.
And I could tell she had a talent for hair dressing.
Honestly, I didn't know what I wanted in terms of what kind of hair would fit me.
However, Roxana seemed very knowledgeable and
was able to ask me the right questions and give the right
advise to lead me to trying Blue Hair.
Roxana's suggestion to try Blue Hair and her skills at hair coloring was great and she gave me a great haircut to go with it!
I'm very happy with Vain and I go there everytime now.
Thanks to Roxana and Vain for making me look and feel like a million bucks!

After a 3 month hair color hiatus, letting my head and hair recover from a desert sun and harsh conditions and not to mention it Rock Star Blue shade, I finally got some relief. Sadly I had to cut most of my hair it off and die it a very dark brown to cover the blue, but after the long transition period, I was ready to get back to being a blond head. Carissa at Vain came to my aid. She did amazing things with my hair and transformed it from a post Playa disaster to a lovely honey blond.

Bash is Seattle's best kept hair secret! He is a very experienced and talented stylist who recently relocated to Seattle from the East Coast. After reading his profile on the Vain website I made an appointment with him hoping he could do something with my butchered short haircut (too short in most places, thinned out on top, too short but thick in the back...). Although I didn't have any length for him to work with, Bash new exactly how make me cute again. He expertly added texture using various techniques with scissors, (not thinning shears) and balanced out the harsh edges. Very impressive given the state of my hair when he started. Over the past few years I have tried many of the top stylists at the so called top salons around Seattle and Bellevue. None of them are even close to being in the same league with Bash. If you want a great cut at a phenomenal price, go see Bash. He is the real deal without the attitude!

I?ve been wanting dreds for over five years, but wasn?t ready to take the plunge until I talked to Monica at Vain. Went in for a consultation first (free!) and she completely set my mind at ease- talked me through the process, how it would work and how to maintain the dreds once I got them. She gave me just what I wanted- big clumpy nasty no, clean neat manageable yes! I highly recommend Monica, she does a great job and it didn?t cost a lot. Best dreds in town hands down.

Yersterday I went to VAIN Salon to have a haircut. Upon entering I was transported into the world of VAIN. What a cool place. My stylist named Ramie was upbeat, cute, interesting and best of all she was interested in what I wanted and willing to give an honest opinion if what I wanted would work for my hair/face. I LOVE MY HAIR! It is so cute and modern! I took the plunge and got a very short short short haircut (short as in Dame Judith Densh) - if you dare to take such a risk (and I think everyone should) go see Ramie at VAIN and enjoy the experience!!!!!

After growing up in a salon in the east coast and living in San Francisco for 3 years I have become very, very particular about my hairstylists. I've been on the periphery of the industry my whole life. I tried a couple other salons downtown and was left unsatisfied (and broke). I finally found Vain 3 years ago after moving to Seattle and requested a cut with Betsy since her profie on Vain's webpage painted a picture of a creative, very experienced stylist. Lucky me- I have been going to her ever since. She does EXACTLY what I ask everytime from the cut, to color and foils. My style has changed from short to long, and from black to blonde (yes! she made that happen!), to multi color and now to red over the years and she makes my vision come true each time. Even with her years of experience she continues to take courses to learn the newest techniques in cutting, color and even extensions. I can toot my own horn here right?? My hair looks awesome and Im rocking the hot lash length bangs now! I get compliments EVERYDAY from strangers! Thanks lady!!!

After many years of hair coloring in Seatlle, I finally found the stylist and space that really confirms my "Seattleness." I have been so let down in the past. If you ever want to talk about haircolor in terms of fire or flames, and if you are ever feeling like you are dishing out 100 bucks for a sense of bownness, boredom or regret, consider aspiring to who you'd truly like to be and visit Alexis at Vain. The second I walked in, I felt relaxed by ever artifact around me, and when I saw Alexis, her smile and willingness to be adventurous was obvious. I knew things would finally be different. As I was getting done, every stylist came by to admire what Alexis had created, and it was on my head!! Now I look drop dead incredible, and I can just sense that this is going to be a special kind of summer.

I had a very mixed experience with Vain. The true test of a salon is not only how well they handle their primary task of color, cut and style, but how well they handle the problems which may arise. Betsy did my initial cut and color, and I was very specific about what I wanted as I have done my own hair with professional products for years. I found her to be condescending and quick to argue with me about color, processing, etc. That said, she complied with my color choice and she gave me one of the best cuts and color I have ever had.

The second time I went in, Betsy seemed rushed and distracted. She replicated the cut pretty well, but the color was way too dark. I told her at first I thought it was too dark, and she seemed defensive and impatient. She then recommended that I go home and repeatedly WASH MY HAIR WITH DISHWASHING LIQUID to lighten it up (subsequent styists were floored by this advice). I eventually tried her advice, and my hair turned reddish. I called to ask about fixing it, and never got any call back. I didn't go back.

Pros: Funky, good with edgy cuts and color

Moving to a new city can be stressful enough, not to mention having to find a new hairstylest. I asked around and 3 different people recommended Vain. So, I made an appointment with Krista. The salon is so fun and upbeat. If you are like me, you dread sitting in a chair for 3 hours. The conversation was great, everyone interacted with eachother, and above all the music was fantastic! For the first time I was able to walk out of a salon with great color and a perfect cut. Krista actually listened to what I wanted and gave me just what I had pictured in my head. The price was unbelievably resonable as well.... I just went to a family reunion and everyone raved about my hair all weekend. Thanks Krista :)

Alexis at Vain will forever be my stylist as long as she'll have me. I'm a college student who generally has a habit of getting my hair cut anywhere, with no loyalty or allegiance to any one stylist. I came to Vain on the recommendation of a good friend of mine. She told me that it was Alexis who gave her such a great bleach job and cut, and that she was building her client list, since she was new to the area. I made an appointment and it was love! I love her, I love the vibe at Vain, and I certainly love my hair. I have gone back 3 times now, and I will continue to. Everyone there is so highly skilled, I'm always checking out everyone's hair around me in the surrounding chairs, and blown away by the stylist's creations. To make a long story short, go to Vain- and if you want a sweet bleach job with bright pink panels throughout and a gorgeous cut; see Alexis.

Vain is a salon, art space and boutique all in one, but what really sets Vain apart are the top-notch stylists. I love Krista! During my first cut, Krista listened to my hair woes, immediately identified the issue, and painstakingly reshaped my hair. The result? For the first time in my life, I liked my hair! The best part is, the haircut still looked great weeks later with no maintenence. She recommended Deva Curl products for my curly hair, which are truly amazing and take two seconds to use (important for a Seattle lady on the go). When it came time to cut my long hair short, I trusted no one but Krista. Again, phenomenal results--she really listens to what her clients want and delivers it with style and charm. And if you're not sure what you want, you can trust her practiced eye and perceptive mind to make you look even more ravishing than you already are.

I have been going to Jenny Slay to get hair extensions for quite some time. I get Great Lengths Extensions which are real hair type of extensions. I absolutely love them and will probably always get them, even if my hair was as long as I wanted it to be. Jenny is so meticulous about putting them in as well as maintaining them with color etc.. I would not go to anyone else to get my extensions done. She is careful not to damage my own hair and I never lose any of the extensions, which I believe is sometimes a problem for people. Since I have had my extensions I have been told by so many people how good I look and no one can tell that I have extensions unless I let them in on it. Jenny also colors and cuts my hair and does an absolutely fabulous job. I am very picky about my hair and I have always been cautious and selective and I feel I can tell Jenny what I want and she always gets it!!

I have been visiting Vain since moving to Seattle in 1999. They've grown up from 3 quiet chairs to a new sassy location with a gallery and a constant whir of activity. I have moved through a few sylists as some have moved on, but Vain keeps bringing me back. I love the quality of real, genuine people who work here, who aren't afraid to tell you what they think and who are so talented that you can trust them to do the right thing for the top of your head. You will usually find that your stylist is also up on the latest bands or clubs or whatever hip is going on in Seattle - I get the best recommendations here for restaurants, bars, all kinds of stuff. I always laugh and have a blast when I'm here. Hey, it's cheap therapy along with a fabulous cut or color! The current downside to their location - parking has gotten way pricey in Belltown; take a bus or walk (especially during evening rush hour).

I don't usually go to the salon, so I was a little nervous when I walked into vain for the first time. Carly was so sweet and made me feel right at home. I could tell right away that she loves her job by the way she was treating me. She really listened to what i wanted, and took great care to make me look beautiful. I absolutely loved the cut and highlights she gave me...and I got a ton of compliments. I would recomment Carly to anyone..

Pros: friendly skilled staff, location, no pressure, fun

I'll be honest. I usually go to Supercuts...don't get me wrong they've done a good job - but nothing like the perfect haircut I got from Carly a few days before my wedding. She was friendly, professional and put me at ease within minutes of arriving. Thanks to Carly and her skill as a hairdresser I've had to break up with Supercuts. Sorry Supercuts - we can still be friends, right?

I moved up here recently from the San Diego area. I've been with the same hair stylist for about 10 yrs and I was really nervous about finding someone new to do my long, wavy, highlighted hair. I found Vain in Best of City Search and I'm so thankful that the receptionist directed me to Carinn.

Carinn really listened to what I wanted, what I liked about my hair, what I didn't like. My last stylist had been putting in 2 shades of blonde highlights and some low-lights underneath. I was afraid no one would be able to re-create what he had been doing to my hair.

Much to my surprise Carinn actually IMPROVED upon what my last stylist had been doing to my hair. She put in all kinds of lucious layers, added some new colors, changed some of the other colors. It looks FANTASTIC!!! Carinn is a complete perfectionist and takes her time to make my hair look great and she shows me different ways to style it on my own. She also introduced me to the fabulous Deva Curl products that they sell. I can't believe my hair looks so great and I don't even have to mess with it. Thank you Carinn!!!

Pros: Fun shop with super friendly staff.
