I went here on a Saturday night with 3 of my girl friends. It was a lot of fun. The crowd is very friendly and the line was super short. We loved it.

In one room they had a live Irish band, in the other, current hip hop. It was nice. I just wish they had more space for dancing and a little better air conditioning during the summer.

This Irish pub seem very authentic. The beer are always good and the food is almost always good. They have live Irish music on some nights. A great place to meet up with friends.

This establishment was recommended as a really good breakfast restaurant. Wrong. We tried the breakfast and found it to be very mediocre. The staff was obviously occupied with getting ready for the big crowd for lunch so attention to detail was lacking with our service. The food was not good and Kells certainly did not meet our expectations. I would not recommend Kells for breakfast.

Best place in Seattle to celebrate St.Patrick??s Day! Live Irish band (weekends), great drinks and good authentic food. I highly suggest this place for a laid back night.

Visited Kell's on May 4, 2010.
Ordered the Salmon dinner for $27. Knew it was a mistake but my husband insisted. It didn't measure up. Nothing measured up. Ordered a glass of wine and the glass was served half full. The waitress was rude and acted like we were bothering her. The overall feeling in the bar was that we were not welcome. The food is not worth the high prices. We stay at the Crown Plaza at least once a month and walk to the nearby bars and restaurants. This was by far the worst experience we have had in Seattle. It so ruined my stay that I am still complaining about it to everyone I know.

Waitress was rude and argumentative when I tried to send back the "clam chowder" (after 2 spoonfulls) for having NO CLAMS in it!!! Then she tried to tell me a second time that the clames were just "really small" and "chopped up". When I informed her I cook for a living (and have for the last 15yrs.) she persisted, finally I told her asertively "I don't want the soup" she walked off in silent protest. No apology, no customer service. Then..........the owner/manager lady w/ long red hair and an attitude began questioning me about the soup. before I could gather my thoughts she also began arguing w/ me, THE CUSTOMER!!! What happened next was a first in my 39yrs. on earth and the 15+ years I have spent in 5 star kitchens, brewhouses, and celebrity chef shadows. Billigerent and indignant are the only words that describes this......."your paying for the soup this is not a charity I am running". When I asked her to repeat that, she did. I was then informed I could take my business elsewhere. Having enough of this I finally made a mistake and told her where she could go and what she could do when she got there. I got up to leave as she told me she was now "calling the police" for assault and a "dine and dash". I paid my tab w/ plastic (which later I learned from my bank I was overcharged 12 dollars) left the establishment and was mocked w/ the term "God bless you" as I walked away. God had nothing to do w/ what happened there and nither will this Irishman ever again!!!

My wife and I used to love hitting Kell's on weekend afternoons and evenings for decent food and good beer, but the service has been so abysmal that we are quite done with this place. I had to ask a waitress for menus...then we had to wait to order drinks...then...well, we left. I wish that this were an isolated incident.

Bye Kell's. We will be taking our money elsewhere.

We moved to Seattle two weeks ago and after settling in were finally able to make it to what used to be one of our favorite restaurants. It was 20 minutes before 5pm when the dinner menu starts. So instead, we ordered from the Happy Hour Menu and started with one order of the Twice Baked Potato and one order of the Ballycastle Sausage Roll. The Sausage Roll's were so good we order two more. We were unable to finish so I asked the waitress for a to go box. She came back stating management told her because we ordered from the Happy Hour Menu we couldn't take our leftovers home. It's not like they put out a buffet where you go and load up your plate. I ordered from the menu. Have you heard of anything so FREAKING REDICULOUS!. I ordered food from a menu and paid for it and was unable to take my half of a sausage roll home. They have forever lost two Irish customers.

My family (a party of 5) had lunch at Kell's today while at Pike's Place market. Most of our entrees were good although the soup of the day (Turkey and vegetable soup) was oddly spicy, like they were trying to add oomph to an otherwise boring soup. What really ruined our meal was the wait/host staff. Our waitress was clearly annoyed by those in our party who were struggling to decide on there meals and beverages, barely smiled and was generally aloof. The hostess completely cleared our table while we were still sitting there socializing-basically saying hurry up and go without saying it. This seems to be a trend with Kell's and we will likely not be back.

I went here on my Birthday and had the Lamb and Irish coffee. It was superb and served with a smile. Awesome place. My date had bangers & Mash and it was correct in all it's splendor. :)

Note: why can't we say ( r a c k ?!) I had the R A C K of Lamb, but the filter won't let it through. Curious.

I went to this restaurant with two other people. We were able to get seated promptly on a nice Saturday night and also were able to get a patio seating. However, the service was extremely slow even though there were not that many customers. The restaurant was half full. The waitress took her sweet ol' time to get us our beverages and did not even ask us if we want any water. All the other restaurants I've been to always serve water regardless. I ordered corned beef and my friends had the lamb special and crab stuffed sole special. The food came out 1 hour later because they ran out and had to thaw the fish (according to the waitress). The food was fine but small portions with huge price. And I don't know what other people are talking about. There really is not much view since it's blocked by another restaurant's patio!

The service at this restaurant is absolutly horrible. I went in with my boyfriend and we approached the bar and asked if we could sit outside since the weather was nice. The bartender told us to go ahead and someone would be right with us... in front of two servers.

We sat outside for 20 minutes before we were even acknowledged by the wait staff. During this time another man came and sat at a close by dirty table, the table was cleaned in front of him and he got a drink before anyone even said hello to us. Another couple behind us left, again the table was snatched before anyone cleaned it, and the ladies were served drinks and given menus while we sat there.

This entire time-- we are sitting directly in front of the door into the restaurant in plain view of servers and the bartender. As we were about to leave one of the ladies asked if we had been "helped" yet... although there are no dishes, drinks, or menus on our table. Upon request we were brought drinks and a menu... the server never came back. As another server was passing we grabbed her and ordered apps... as we saw our previous waitress in street cloths walking out the back door, her shift ended and she never brought us any food!!!! (the second server took an another 15 minutes to bring two beers which were both on tap!!) The only reason this bar gets 2 stars is because the location/view from the patio is great in warm weather, and we really like that its in post alley. The Oyster half's I had for apps were also really good. Other then that... THE SERVICE SU**S!!!!

If you enjoy good food, get there pasties (pronounced pah sties, unlike the things that cover your b00bs!) We stopped in there at the beginning of our night of bar hopping, and it is a busy place. Don't come here late in the evening if you're looking for a quiet neighborhood bar.

The whole bar was hoppin, people (meaning our crowd of 10-15) were in the middle of the bar signing to the music....fun times.

If you go in a large group, they designate a server to you right away and she takes care of you the whole night. Staff is great, and we made lots of friends - so the place is great too!

I came here with a group of 4 a few fridays ago - it was average at best. I had high hopes, as one of the girls we were with is Irish and raves about the place. It was crowded, but we found an empty table pretty quickly. Unfortunately, it was right next to the stage (and speaker), so we could barely converse with one another. Our waitress did come and take orders pretty quickly, but as it got more crowded it took forever to get her back over. In addition, as the night wore on, the place was getting more and more crowded, and the speakers were getting louder and louder. There were only two real saving graces: 1. A band called the Corner Bhoys performed. They were okay, but one of them was called Liam Gallagher, and yes, they did "Wonderwall"; and 2. There were two cute girls in the corner whom we attempted to guess their age. Fun.

If you're after Irish cuisine, don't eat at this place. It's not quality food, it seems pre-packed from a freezer and is completely overpriced for what it is. The pasties they make do not exist in Ireland. The soda bread is not bad but you'll need plenty of Guinness at $5.50 to wash it down. Be sure to order 10 minutes in advance though, as it'll take that long for them to get it to you.
Do not think about having just a pint of stout outside - you won't be allowed. You see, even though you might spend $22 on 4 pints, that's just not enough for these people. They want you to buy Irish stew from a packet for $10. So you'll be forced inside by management, like the poor woman who was humiliated in front of us. I then heard the waitress who showed us to our seats being reprimanded for "costing us 2 tables outside". Quite breathtaking treatment. Not very Irish at all.....

The bartenders at this establishment did not conduct themselves in a professional and polite manner. Not only did they use profanity when they spoke with me, but also spoke to me in a way that attempted to demoralize me. I had no prior alcohol consumption before entering this establishment, so I was not inebriated before consulting with them.

When I attempted to close my tab, the bill was wrong. But again the bartenders were very rude and said, "Why are you wasting my time. You are a waste of space here." He went on to say that neither he nor the first bartender would re-make my drinks because they didn't want to serve me. I proceeded downstairs to speak with the manager but nothing could be done.

Avoid this place at all costs

Kells is a great place for socializing. Good beer, good food, love the pasties(I think chicken's the best). The staff are usually friendly. You can have a lot of fun here, people not too stuffy. St. Patrick's Day is very busy, but they have an upstairs room now with views of the water. I grew up in Ireland, the Kells owners grew up in Ireland...... this IS an Irish pub.

This is by far the best Irish bar in town. Take my word for it.
The food is excellent. You can tell a lot of thought went into the food. The pasties are amazing, the sodabread is fantastic. Steak and kidney pie had a bit much kidney in it for my taste, but was excellent otherwise. The music was top notch. They had a band from San Francisco and a Seattle band got on stage with them at one point. Both bands were brilliant. My friends and I stayed all night long until close. The frat boy contingency was high, but they didn't become rambunctious or stupid. High class place. Don't believe the haters!

Amazingly bad food is featured at Kells. The Irish stew is straight from a can, the corned beef comes from a plastic package, and sadly, these are not exaggerations. The bottomline is that food here is a distant afterthought. Nothing is made from scratch. You can seriously get better food at the grocery store.

The focus at Kells is drinking. You can get a good pint of Guinness on tap at Kells.

I went to Kells for the first time 2 weeks ago, my first impression that it was a little hole in the wall dive. After walking in it was a very high energy place, we were only there a few short hours but everyone that I was with had a great time. The drinks are a little expensive - the staff and the owner are very friendly. We will all make it a point to go back to Kells in the near future!

I really like Kells A lot! However my friends and I stood in line on St. Patricks Day for over an hour which wasn't that big of a deal it being their big holiday, but we paid $20 to get in, finally got a seat and ordered a drink and the band stopped at 11:00pm. As far as I know the bar is open till almost 2am so it was a real dissaponitment that they shut down so soon. Especially on St. Patrick's Day. The music is the main reason I go there. They have some of the best Irish music in town. I really love the place, but WILL NOT be going back again next year as I have the last 4 years in a row.

Kells has a magic all its own. Maybe it's the ghosts since it used to be a mortuary, maybe it's because it's hidden away in Post Alley. I do know it's been around for 22 years and for a reason. Kells is family owned and operated, unlike any other Irish place I know of in Seattle. It's got the feel of a place to escape to. It's not just the good drinks and atmosphere, it's the whole package. Trust me, go there. And yes, on busy nights (Fri/Sat) getting a drink may take a while, but the girls there work hard AND they have 3 bars.. I hope they're around for another 22 years and more. Kells is 'real good craic'. Oh ya, they have free WiFi internet too! Beer and web rules.

Cons: , Prices, Service

.

I'm so frickin' sick of Kells. There are several superior Irish bars in this town, Fado has better food, The Owl and Thistle has better value and music, the Galway Arms is cozier and the Irish Immigrant is cooler. If you want to sub a salad instead of soup, it costs $1.75. I thought lettuce was cheap. God knows the carrot shreads are tacky. Your server usually walks past you for 30-40- minutes before you finally have to grab them for some acknowledgement. The bar staff never smiles and the bouncers have no personality. The $6.95 crab cake is the size of a 50cent piece. One big frickin' overpriced rip off!!!!

Every sunny moment in Seattle is precious, so use it wisely. What better place than a cozy pub patio with cold beer and good food. Tables on the tiny patio fill up quickly, so arrive early to secure a coveted spot. Far superior to pub grub by any standard, the food is a pleasant surprise. Fresh crab cakes are light and flavorful and the tomato soup is rich and satisfying. Thanks to the friendly and attentive staff, youll never be left with an empty pint glass.

Pros: great patio

Cons: not many tables

Sit down on the patio, ask for a Guinness and relax. Try the crab cakes if they're on the special menu. The patio is tiny, but nicely tucked away on this hidden alley and a nice spot to hide on a pleasant afternoon.
