Ronin Dojo offers a wonderful introductory course to Karate at a great price--$39/month. The program is called Kinderate and often varies between four different instructors teaching the different levels of children attending--generally 4 to 8 years old. There is never less than two instructors present with never more than 5 children in their groups.

They make the warm up and cool down very fun for the kids, and in between, the level courses follow a specific list of skills to learn before progressing to the next level. It is stressed that they must practice one thing each week, focus during instruction time, and show respect for the dojo and their instructors.

They also learn various safety measures such as stranger danger, defense, and personal information. Another bonus is the emphasis on learning basic Japanese numbers and words appropriate to their instruction.

My 6-year-old son looks forward to "karate day" each week--even when I have to pull him out of bed on a Saturday morning.
