I'd visited G&G off and on for years when they were at their old (and much larger location). I rarely bought anything, but the store was always worth carousing, and the staff usually helpful.

After the move, I visited their new location and was pleasantly surprised by how the store had persevered (Despite my worst fears). The staff were helpful, and long term veterans of the hobby game industry. Thankfully it seemed they had dealt with the computer issue that had seemed to plague the store in recent years.

I'm not a "hardcore" enthusiast, so I can't verify some of the other reviews. However the staff was kind, helped me find what I was looking for, and was more than happy to discuss recent news in the industry that might be of interest to me. They even showed me the new products that had arrived just that morning and were in the process of being stocked. (this was a little before noon.)

The store left a good impression on me, and I would gladly give them my patronage any day of the week compared to some of their nearby competition.

I have to concur with the review that complained about things being out of stock. The store seems to consistently be out of stock from week to week on a great many things. It is also very messy since they moved to a different (and much smaller) location a couple of months ago. Basically it has gone from one of the top game stores in the country to your run-of-the-mill game store. I've since decided to get my purchaes online which, sadly is cheaper and quicker.

Interesting that all the review focus on customer service? The staff is helpful and can order anything I need and have it there in a week or less. My experience has been nothing short of spectacular service.

I??ve been to game shops all over this planet, believe me when I tell you, this shop is in the top 10.

For those expecting a polished corporate drone to hold your hand and play games for you (ala Games Workshop), this isn??t for you. But if you are fan of wargames, role-playing, miniatures, and top-shelf board games, this is a dream come true.

Real people, real games, real gamers. It??s exactly the kind of game store this area needed.

The good:1) Great location.2) Big Store3) Knowledgeable and friendly staff4) Lots of Terrain if you are into table top war-gamingThe bad:1) Lazy. The owner seemingly doesn't have the desire to really make it and is content with just providing table space. They don't organize events, advertise events (they do have a marginal event printout), provide prizes. Now they don't stand in the way for you to do this and use their store to host, they just don't help. Our group of friends really tried and start up a league asked for help and barely got anything. We are friendly with each other so its not a personality thing. But you can't expect leagues to be run by people who work 50 hour work weeks. If you want gaming to flourish you need to provide the opportunity for busy professionals to "just show up" and be ready to game. We don't have the time to d**k around. Our group often thought that if we opened our own store we could put them out of business, because they don't seem to try and gain business - just benefit from a lack of competition.

Honestly, you people are correct. The computers are distracting, the staff often times kind of out of it, and the customers (of whom many of you seem to think are employees) can be rude and boisterous, but I think you're focusing a little on the negative. Why is it such a bad thing that you should approach the register to ask for help? Do you really need a nanny? I know I would never go there if they treated me like they do in a Games Workshop store. There's a difference between customer service and forced sales.

As far as the computers go, yes they were a problem, but they were removed for that very reason. There are currently two working computers which are not occupied by staff unless those staff happen to be not on shift. So, when the staff that is actually working asks somebody from the computer bay to come help you, please remember that he's probably not on shift before you make bad reviews.

Finally, about the language, that is something that does happen. Get a large enough group of twenty somethings and that's just what's going to happen, but it doesn't mean that you shouldn't bring your kids in. As soon as a child is noticed, the comments will and do stop. If somebody lets something slip, they will be reprimanded by the staff. This level of understanding and social etiquette is far above what I've come to expect from most places.

Overall, it's a very nice store that gets a bad rep because it also happens to be run by people who are charismatic and fanatic enough about games to keep a tight knit group of people coming by in their free time. Come on by and try looking for the things I've mentioned if you still don't believe me.

I??ve been buying stuff from this store off and on for a few years. In addition to the comments about the appearance of the store and the employees on the computers, I have a different complaint. Usually, they have all kinds of figures that I want/need to purchase. Lately, it??s just not the case.

I often find empty areas on the shelves where product (that I want to buy) should be. In the recent months, items get ordered weeks to a month after their official release date. I have to buy them either online or at another store.

And if you want something special ordered, forget about it. I ordered two models a few months ago. The first one came in, was put on the shelf and sold to somebody else. (I found that out when I asked about it.) I was never notified that it arrived. I didn??t get mad at the guy that took my request since I don't think he actually orders anything. The other model, I was told, was a little harder to get, so it might not come in. That, I understand. Last week, I found the model on the shelf. I walked out without buying it or the other items I wanted.

It used to be a great store you could go to and play or find something you wanted. Now, it??s a really sad shell of itself.

I recently wandered into this great little hidden treasure while waiting for a movie to start at Bella Bottega Theater. I've seen the store but didn't know they carried such a variety of games for school age kids and families. I thought it was only a hobby and gaming store. There are young men (and not so young men) immersed in their hobby painting and building scenery for games and playing in tournaments, but they were all very appropriate and just interested in their games.
The front of the store has lots of board games and card games for families and brain-teaser type puzzles and other stocking-stuffer type things. The staff that talked with me knew a lot about games and what kids like. They were enthusiastic and polite but didn't push products or hover over me as I looked around and explored.
I will go back to get more Christmas gifts and will tell my friends who are looking for something other than video games for kids.

Based on my experience with the staff and customers of this store, I cannot even think of bringing my kids into the store. Aside from the NC-17 language, there are many dangerous tools and implements, glues, and craft materials in easy hands reach of any toddler, not to mention the mounds of unwrapped product and materials crowding thier players tables..
This place is best off for the teenagers who hang out there...
and bye the way, good luck getting someone off their butts to help, they have gaming computers there that seem to occupy thier attention while on the job. Only way to tell, ask for help at the counter.

RPGs, Table Top minis, Puzzles, Board Games, you name it they've got it. Staff is a little rough around the edges but this is a game store/hang out not a stuffy don't touch anything atmosphere. This is a game store a place to go and game and it's a great place to get your game on at that. Looking for some obscure game/title? Then the guys here have heard of it guaranteed! They may not have it but can probably order it for you. Definitely worth checking out!

The times when I have visited this store, it seems like they might be going out of business soon. It looks messy like nobody has cleaned up in a long long time, and some of the miniature game walls at the back of the store look bare.

I went into Gamez and Gizmos a few Saturdays ago, and there was empty pizza boxes and soda bottles on the tables, and an employee (I think they called him the manager) playing world of warcraft on a computer.

Maybe there will be something left if they really are going out of business and have a big sale.

Great store dedicated to gaming of many different types (not just one company). They even have a large selection of sample games for you to try and have fun with. The staff aren't all in your face and beaming with fake smiles, it's true, but they actually know what they're talking about and leave you to your business. They let you shop at your pace, and don't hassle you to buy something if you are researching a purchase.

The store is large and open, making for a comfortable atmosphere and it isn't wall to wall with adolescents, which is one of my main problems with most game stores, like Games Workshop. Give this store a try if you want a comfortable place to game with a broad selection.

The skinny: Lots of tables, tons of great terrain (and I mean GREAT), great product selection, new releases, plus a ton of great restaurants nearby...

...BUT...

Staff? Huh? Oh, they would have to give a hoot for me to care.

Man, this store would have everything - great location and a large, air-conditioned playspace for tabletop games, but the staff CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO LOG OFF OF WOW to care about anything else. I've seen people come and go, even standing up at the counter for a bit looking around with that, 'help?' look on their faces, without so much as a, 'can I help you?' from a staffer.

It seems they've got a couple folks who work there that are truly passionate about gaming and want to help people, but they're not there often enough (maybe they're part time?). Even if only one staff member is more worried about levelling up their WOW character than helping people, that's too much and it really gives the store a bad image.

This is a store I really wanted to love, still kinda do, but it seems they've gotten a bit complacent by having a great location and a lack of serious competition.

Games and Gizmos has been my regular stop for years now, even back when it was WizKids' flagship store. It's one of those places that you have to get used to before you realize how cool it is. The staff is small, and most of the time they are running a tournament, helping customers in WoW, or paining up some miniatures for an upcoming Warmachine scenario, but are extremely helpful. It may take them a moment to see you at the register, but if you ever come in and need help, they will be more than happy to help out. Right now they are assisting me with the upcoming Monsterpocalypse release, getting me ready with my pre-release boosters to kick off with a bang, and giving, as well as taking, advice on the game mechanics. You won't fall in love instantly, and if you are expecting a run of the mill shop where people are always behind the counter, you'll be dissapointed. The staff interacts with the customers in ways few other stores do. I haven't seen one other shop where the manager is in a game of M:tG with a customer that just bought his first booster, teaching him the rules as he goes along.

The customer service here is abysmal. I'm used to going into a Games Workshop store where the employees get training and evaluations for customer service. When I enter Games and Gizmos, I'm lucky to even be acknowledged by the staff. More often I'm given a dirty look for coming into their store while they are playing games on their computers. When I want to purchase something, I have to ask if I can buy something and get them to drag themselves to the cash register.

The last time I went I wanted two items. One was a new release, the other had been around for three years. I asked for help finding them. My answer was, "We're out of stock," followed by the employee walking away to play computer games.

Yes, this place has a large selection and some harder to find items. I go in occasionally for this reason alone, but only with great regret until I manage to find some other store that has what I need.

I know this place has been around a long time. It didn't used to be so bad. It has gone steadily downhill over the past 13 years I've been to the stores.

I will have to second that previous comment with my observations, I am no longer spending my time and money in this shop as it is apparent that the distractions provided by computer games, the staffs inabillity to assist customers, let alone be recognized by any kind of tag/uniform/hat make this place feel like a persons hangout and not like a legitimate business, too bad... it had such promise

Went there on the evening of July 5th 2008. Walked around the shop for 10 minutes and didn't see a staff member. In that time several other people came in looked at the games and stood there looking for help but none came! I finally went up to the computer banks and asked if there were any staff and dear god, the only staff member was playing WOW in a battleground - total oblivious to customers coming in and out of the shop. Asked my question and he went back to WOW - pathetic service. I went and spent my $125 on line instead, not supporting that shop

Genesis Games and Gizmos has a very open and friendly feel. The staff are very helpful, and they have a wide selection of games of all kinds. Another nice feature of the store, is the computer gaming rigs that they have setup for use. Overall, this is a great store with amazing variety and quality.

Gaming has come a long way from the casual game of Scrabble. board gaming, card gaming and collectible minature gaming is popular among a lorage subset of kids and adults alike. Games and Gizmos has a huge selection of hard to find games including many European imports where gaming is red-hot. They also have the full line of Wizkids titles including Heroclix, pirate, and Mechwarrior. Of special interest are the great trophy cases where they displayt heir rare and one-of-a-kind miniatures. And if you aren't in the mood to buy, but want to play, they have several game tables in the center of the store where you cans pend countless friday nights playing games with your other single friends!

PROS: fair amount of games including harder to find ones
CONS: nerd quotient is quite high here...

WizKids Games is the home of the addicting HeroClix game system that has taken comic book and regular gamers by storm. The depiction of favourite comic book characters charged for gaming purposes is a marriage made in heaven and has attracted a legion of fans.

Since the inception of "HeroClix", this gaming company has been taken notice by everyone. They have taken the time to develop these games and make them better for playability. The fact that the next wave of HeroClix series always has everyone salivating is testament to what this company is offering to its fans.

Mailaway figures have become a huge event as these "limited edition" figures cannot be purchased anywhere else but at WizKids (or selected companies that distribute these figures). As a result their customer service has become very important. I have had no problems with this company at all which has all resulted to my customer satisfaction. I know that when I purchase anything from WizKids they will comply quickly and sufficiently.

Customer feedback is always important as well and they always give out surveys on each project that is released to see if the customers are satisified. The incentive to complete these surveys results in free giveaways which are randomly chosen. This is a great way to ensure that people are always interested in their prodcuts.

If you like comic book characters -- whether it be for gaming purposes, collecting, or both -- WizKids and HeroClix is a great place to start looking.

PROS: Great products, easy to use, lots of fun
CONS: Collecting is expensive
