I've moved at least 6 times in the last 8 years and I always use movers. I've never had any real complaints about any of the companies I've used before (sure sometimes the rates seem a little high or the movers a little slow, but still worth it) until now.

I hired A Able for a weekday afternoon, the movers arrived and immediately started complaining about the steps up to the house and the rain and how we had more stuff than the dispatcher told them, and how it would take them 4 hours just to load everything (which was truly an exaggeration based on my previous experience, but okay, if you say so). It was clear they did not want to do the job because it wasn't an easy one and they would be working past 5pm.

However, they started loading our things into the truck (taking two "drink" breaks within the first 45 minutes) and had nearly loaded 1/4 of our stuff when I noticed I hadn't seen them in the house for awhile (they were taking things through the garage to avoid the front steps). So, I go out to the garage and notice that all of our things had been taken back out of the truck, dumped into the garage, and the movers are driving off down the road... without a word... never to return.

Apparently they had decided not to do the job, leaving us scrambling to find someone else... who happily did the job right away with NO complaints... AND it only took 2.5 hours to load and another 2 to unload rather than the 4 hours to do each that the A Able complainers estimated.
