I have recently been to this establisment and i do not understand how it is in running. The front deskgirl and the vetrinarian techs are great and helpfull but OMG when it comes to the doctor...... I felt like he was slow like 4 hours slow for my appointment. He was dressed like he just got up and was not even wheing a doctors coat or a tie. Not even slacks. then i was unable to get basic medication for my animal and had to go to an outside pharmacy. i had also talked to there so called buissness mager Phil who was so unprofessional and rude, he kept adverting eye contact and was interupting when the front desk lady was talking to me. He was yelling and being rude to the customers in front of me and also the vetrinaryan assitants that where there. He was also dresed in a low cut v neck shirt, unshaven, and his jeas where two sizes too small for him, he is suppost to be the buissness manger and he is so unprofessional and rude that i cant understand who would put him in charge. I have been there a couple of times because i wanted to see if maybe it was a bad day or something but it was the same thing. I do have to say the the female doctor they have there i was very pleased with, she awas knowledgable and did not overcomplicate anything andi was in and out much more effecantly than before. I cant figure out why the other doctor is so slow, and how the front desk person and the assistance are nice, knowledgable, and courtice work for these people. There is also the fact that the practice is the basement of what looks like a house, the walls are diffreant colors and it is very dirt looking, and not to mention that they have ZERO perscription diet items and the most i have seen there are pill pockets but thats about it. The place looks like it needs to be condemded and the buisness manger is one reason i will not go back and will warn everyone to not go there. I got meds there once for my anuimal i got some pain pills and it was like 30$ for 27 pill, i went back and had to get it a second time and it was 78$ for 40 pills. If the pricing of the pills is that messed up i can just imagin the pricing of the surgries and procedures.

I think that this is the most amazing veterinary hospital in kitsap county. I had a wonderful old boy pitbull terrier named Chico who was very ill. I was heartbroken with the state he was in, Dr. Crawford and his staff were the best. We had little money to get our baby seen. They took us in and ran the tests. They gave us options on payments and were willing to work with us 100% and explained what was going on with our boy. When it came down to it our boy just had far too much working against him and we made the non-pressured decision to see him off to sleep. They gave us all the time we needed with him to say our goodbyes (which was after the vet closed) Dr. Crawford was the most caring person and said the nicest things to our boy as he passed on. From that moment on I refuse to take my animals anywhere else as long as I live in Kitsap County. This Vet actually cares about the animals he treats!

Thankfully I stopped and did research on-line for this Vet. It was previously owned by Dr. Relling who was terrific in every way. However he retired and sold his practice to Dr. Crawford, I am told. Trusting that the new owner was somewhat near the quality we had come to enjoy from Dr. Relling we made an appointment for our 1 year old dog to be spayed. She was being boarded at the boarding business that Dr. Relling does still own. While she was there we made the appointment with the new Vet. Their employee "Phil" made the appointment and said he would go next door and get our dog to do preliminary necessary lab work for the surgery. I asked at that time what the entire costs would be for the spaying to which he quoated me $397.00 all inclusive. So I said ok go ahead and do her lab work.

In the mean time I did reference checks on this new Vet which I should have done previously! I found nothing good. I called to cancel the appointment and talked to Phil again. He said when would I like to reschedule and I said I would not. He said ok but there was the matter of the costs of the blood work. That was resonable, so when I asked how much that was he said $110.00! I said WHAT?? You mean you were going to charge me that plus an additional $397 and he said yes that was correct. So the quote of $397 was not the entire costs it would seem. Anyone who is sneaky about what they charge would; I fear; be sneaky about what the surgical treatment of our dog would be. I believe before we would have gotten out of there more hidden charges would have surfaced! I have checked several other Vets now and NONE of them have any additional lab charges, plus the rates are anywhere from $340 to $380 ALL INCLUSIVE.

Although we have decided to hold up on the surgery for now you can bet we will never go back to Compassionate Critter Care.

We took our 20-yr old cat to Dr. Crawford because she was vomitting and hadn't eaten in two days. He gave her an anti-nausea med, sub-cutaneous fluids and tested her blood and urine. We took her in a day later because she had still not eaten. We were given instructions to infuse her with 250ml of saline solution sub-cutaneously at home every 3 days. I checked the internet vet sites and the maximum dose for a cat larger than our is 100 ml. When we infused the cat she had so much fluid in her the skin on one side of her body was dragging on the ground and ahe could barely walk. The vet gave her no appetite stimulant or pain meds, and it appears pretty clear that the cat wasin renal failure. The next day she ate nothing and was vomitting again, and although we gave her fluids, she was clearly dying. We took her back to Dr. Crawford and he had to inject her 3 different times to finally euthanize her. The first time he injected her outside of a vein, so it didn't affect her at all, the second time he tried to injected the pentobarb into a kidney, which made her comatose but she still had a heartbeat. He took her into another room and when he came back he said she was gone. When we took her home I left her body in a box until she was in rigor to ensure she was actually dead. If you love your pet, go elsewhere. His vet degree is from a college in the Caribbean.

Dr. Crawford was a wonderful vet for my cat. I came in with my cat lethargic and in pain, and within an hour Dr. Crawford fully explained what was going on with him (urinary blockage) and explained everything in detail--from the illness to the potentialities to the cost--before ensuring I was okay with him proceeding to treat my pet. He was compassionate, allowed me to cry in front of him when I feared my baby's death, and did all he could to take care of my cat.

Currently my cat is in their care. I was given a prescription for better food, and within half an hour of leaving the clinic, he called me to update me with the current situation (so far so good).

Is it pricey to take care of a urinary blockage in a male cat? Yes. But considering the cost of my personal minor surgery cost JUST AS MUCH as it does for them to save the life of my baby, I am more than satisfied. Hopefully the next time I go, it will be under better circumstances, but Dr. Crawford and his assistants are pleasant, patient, calm, and willing to clean cat vomit. A+, will go again.

The Staff turn over in the last year is surprising, to say the least...7+ different people have come and/or gone in just over a year. That should tell you something. The prices at this clinic are VERY high for what you receive. I would not recommend taking your animals here. The facility is dirty. The Doctor is not personable. He tries to pressure you into services. It seems like he is just trying to inflate the bill. There is NO FLEA CONTROL to purchase. For what less than what you would pay for an office call here, there are much nicer, better equiped clinics, with better Doctors.

I thought I'd try them out because a friend said they were inexpensive. But, you get what you pay for. When I walked in the clinic was dirty looking. Then, I waited for 45+ minutes to be called into my appointment, only to wait another 20 for the doctor to finally come in. After all that, I wasn't happy with the Doctor. He did not come across as knowledgeable or concise. If you want prompt, quality medical care for your pet, I would not come here.

TERRIFIC VET!!
I have taken my pets to Relling Small Animal Hospital for over 20 years. Dr. Relling retired and now Dr. Crawford takes care of my dogs and cats. I am very pleased with the services and reasonable charges for my pocketbook. I have had to use other vets from time to time who charge a lot more and are not concerned about my pet.
I like the "home town" feel of the office and the friendly staff who work very hard to attend to my animals veterinary needs.

Terrible Vet! I took a very sick stray cat there and he looked at it for less then 1 minute and told me to put it to sleep that it wouldn't survive anyway unless I wanted to spend a lot of money. Well left that place real quick and took the cat home and he is doing really good, eating getting fatter and doing better and better. So much for his diagnosis. The vet had a very unpleasent personality but the vets assistant was a real angel too bad she isn't the vet there.

Business Response:

Business Manager Bhakti L. I apologize for your experience here at Relling Small Animal Hospital. Was this vist recent or has it been some time since your visit? We want to provide the best quality of medicine, owner experience, and espcially pet experience. The clinic has recently been undergoing changes with a new owner, Dr. Charles Crawford, new associate doctor, Dr. Michelle Burch, and new technical staff. If you would like to discuss your experience further with me, I personally would love the oppurtunity to make ammends. My name is Shelly Simpson and my direct contact # is 360.561.0151.

Dr. Relling is absolutely incredible. He has tended to our many animals for the past 15 years. He has deep passion for cats and dogs and the animals, themselves, sense it. They are comfortable and calm down once he handles them. His facility is well-run, thanks to Jae, his wife, and his fees are very economical. In these times of high expenses, because he is so reasonable, I feel more animals stand a chance to survive because their owners are not faced with staggering health care costs and taken to the cleaners.Gwen Fuller, Silverdale, WA

Dr Relling and staff have always been willing and able to answer questions and take care of my animals. One dog was attacked by a raccoon, and Dr Relling, and his wife, took extra care to help the little guy survive. I have been taking my dogs here for over 23 years. Moving to Idaho has not caused us to change our Vet, the dachshunds continue to visit Dr Relling as needed.

Dr. Relling and office staff are the sweetest people. Dr. Relling is an excellent surgeon and has the utmost compassion for every animal that comes through his doors. The prices are reasonable also. Had surgery on my dog and it was successful and the price was affordable. Dr. Relling is an angel in vets clothing!
