Maritime Pacific Brewing Company is our small, family-owned brewery, established in 1990. As traditional home port to Northwest mariners, the Ballard district of Seattle provides us the perfect setting for a brewery with a seafaring name and tall ship as its emblem. At Maritime Pacific, we brew truly handcrafted ales and lagers, enhancing traditional recipes to produce unique Northwest beers. Added to a fleet of year-round favorites are specialty seasonal beers, providing the enthusiast with an ever-changing choice of beverage to refresh the beer-drinking soul. Our Jolly Roger Taproom offers Maritime Pacific brews along with our delicious, reasonably priced entrees designed especially to complement them. Kegs and bottles to go and a collection of logo wearables and gifts are also available for sale here.

The Scene
Pirate paraphernalia adorns the walls, but an unlikelier scene for swashbuckling and plunder you'll be hard-pressed to find. Brightly lit and featuring a menu with mostly nutritious grub, the pub is practically wholesome. Unlike other area on-site brewpubs, though, the Jolly Roger doesn't feel like a mere marketing exercise; it's intimate and--especially when the old-fashioned stove warms a bone-chilling winter drizzle--rather cozy. Those who do wish to purchase officially licensed merchandise are accommodated, of course.

The Draw
Appropriately, the handicraft from the adjacent brewery is the highlight here. Fourteen taps of fresh beer are offered, including two or three cask-conditioned ales. Seasonal brews, most notably Jolly Roger, the popular and potent winter ale the pub was named after, are especially inviting.

Key Points

  • Home-brewed beers
  • Kegs and bottles to go
  • Reasonably priced entrees

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - Those who want to try as many offerings as possible and still drive home should opt for the sampler, a variety selection of five 5-ounce beers.
  2. The Extras - Bottles and kegs are available for convenient takeout.

Little burgers, little fishwiches, great beer

by Lori S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 106

Aaargh....mates! There are some great brews for the pirate-loving folk. If this place was just a bit bigger and had some cork or cloth somewhere to absorb the noise. The Jolly Roger beer is my favorite. Always something cask conditioned. And, maybe try those deep-fried pickles (or not).

Great beer and food, but very noisy

by Dan S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,420

This is another great Seattle brew pub. Their beers are excellent and the food is several notches above normal pub fare. The service is also very good. My only complaint is that the pub very noisy. A little sound dampening would be a good improvement.

Here Thar Be Good Food

by Craig P. | insider Insider | Rank: 16,791

This pirate themed restaurant is part of the Maritime Pacific Brewing Company in Ballard. It can be a little hard to find the restaurant as it is located away from downtown Ballard, but on the plus side it is easy to find parking. The interior is decorated with pirate paraphernalia including a giant treasure map painted on the floor.

Most surprisingly the food here is of excellent quality. The dishes have interesting flavor combinations and most contain a good portion of protein. They usually have a good selection of local fish and all come with vegetables and starch of some type. Since it's a brewery the beer here is also great!

Yes Yes Yes

I walked in out of no where & was wow'ed. Two words: O WoW. Fabu Beers. Great bar foods. The service & decore fit my mood & the location to the nines. What a wonderful memory from the wrong side of the tracks. If you want green grass & a view of happy puppies, look else where. If you're open for "different" or love beer, you need to take a drive!

Pros: Pyrate feel with hops & malts

Cons: small inside

Something for everyone at the Jolly Roger!

by weatherboy

My friends and I went on a pretty busy night, but it didn't slow down the service much! The JRT is a pretty cozy little bar. There are wooden seats and tables that stretch around the right side of the room while the actual bar takes up the majority of the left side. The only warning I would have is to shy away from the windows on a colder day, it gets a little drafty. When you go, and you definatly should, do like citysearch says and order up the beer sampler and see what beer they have that suites you...and one most likely will! I like the one named after Seattle. Also, when I ordered up a plate of their fries, the helping was so large it took all five of us to finish them off! Cheers JRT!

Pros: Great Beer! Good Food! Great Place to Meet!

Cons: Little hard to find. Can get drafty on a cold day.

Best Beer In Town

by creo

By far the best beer in town. Great atmosphere, the kind of place you meet someone new on just about every visit. Staff is super friendly and the food is well above your average pub fare. Can't wait for the Navigator to come out later, one of the best parts of fall.

Seattle's best kept secret

by cgant

I was introduced to JRT about a year ago and now I can't stay away! I never drank beer until I got a hold of their pilzner and the food is excellent! There are healthy meal options (try the dinner menu) to deep fried (I recommend the onion rings) that are sure to satisfy any appetite. Last, but not least, the staff are all courteous and have great product knowledge! Who says you can't have it all?

Pros: Inexpensive, Helpful staff, Great Food

Cons: Can get hot in summer

Great beer, great food

by wasbrec

This is one of those places only locals know about. Maritime has a great selection of handcrafted beers as well as a great menu. The seasonal dinner menu contains several excellent meals, usually under $12-13. It may change every few months but the choices are well rounded and well prepared. Big flavors for a good price. Of course, the real reason to go is for the beer - Navigator, Windfest and the Christmas Ale - Jolly Roger - make the food all the better. The owners are great, and stop by and chat with the custormers. Check it out.

Tasty snacks and meals

by superjeno

The tapas style menu is designed for little bites or bigger ones depending on your hunger (or your alcohol consumption - Maritime beers are STRONG.) Oyster and Mahi mini burgers, great salads, beer-influenced spicy sauces, something for everyone. You should definitely give this place a try if you want a great beer and some equally great food.

Pros: good location, down-to-earth, quality

Cons: limited seating, beer only, parking
